I had my first appt with Gentle Dental on October ** at *** *** I arrived in advance of my appt time The first yellow flag was when a team of assistants began calling patients advising that their appts for that day had to be cancelled due to a compressor being down (has anyone ever been to a dentist that closed due to equipment failure)
I waited minutes to be called as I watched patients that arrived later than I be called back for service When I approached the desk to make an inquiry, the assistant had no response as to why I had been waiting so long They clearly don't monitor the patients in the waiting area She came back several minutes later to advise that the Dental Hygienist I would have seen was a 'No Show' for the day How does a busy dental practice only recognize a missing employee nearly an hour into the work day? When I pressed for a more detailed explanation, Gentle Dental then changed course and blamed it on the compressor being down Normally, no hygiene services are performed on a patient's first visit so I inquired as to the bearing this had on my excessive wait when in fact the compressor failure would NOT have impacted my service The front office staff along with the owner forged ahead with their flimsy accuses The owner did eventually find an alternative Dental Hygienist that would have provided service on this day but it is apparent that Gentle Dental has some maturing to do
Clearly this business does NOT take responsibility for its missteps and looks to blame anything and everything else but their lack of effective business practices

I was a Gentle Dental customer every six months for ten years until I recently moved to Iowa City. The office always seemed well-equipped and efficient, and I was always pleased to get my teeth cleaned and get out the door in less than an hour. The hygienist routinely scolded me for not flossing every day, and eventually I did become quite religious about it. In Iowa City I began to go to the UI Dental College's clinic. For the first time the depth of the pockets in my gums due to plaque buildup were measured and recorded, and it was pretty serious. A second year hygienist worked on me for an hour but I was then handed over to her supervising dentist. She worked for another hour and at one point muttered "This is what happens when money becomes more important than patient care." As the clinic was closing she begged me to make another appointment for which I would not be charged. She said that she hoped the completely cleaned gums would heal and I would not experience any more bone loss. Gentle Dental had told me that I had bone loss, but they simply said I needed to floss regularly and always spent the same 40 minutes or so on my teeth and got me out of there. I would never have known that I was receiving poor quality care if I had not gone to the Dental College.

When my child came out into the waiting area (because I'm not allowed to go back with her due to 'lack of room') she is in tears from the pain. She told me that numbing stuff was put on her gums then immediately after the Novocain was injected then the drilling without any time for the pain reliever to take affect. The needle went into her jaw bone under her teeth repeatedly causing extreme pain and discomfort to my child. When the assistant was using the utensil to suck up excess saliva she dug the utensil into my daughter's cheek and scrapped the back of her throat twice causing harm. We will under NO circumstance EVER return to this establishment.

I went in to have a front tooth repaired and they dripped something on my chin and lipto that burned. The next day I noticed that I had 4 burn marks on my chin and lip due to whatever they dripped and didnt bother wiping it off. I now have a small crater of a scar on my chin from the incident. A second appointment I went to to have a tooth pulled and they did such a horrible job that I developed a really bad infection in my gums and cheek, and they refused to help me fix the problem. The Doctors, Dental Hygienists, Office Managers, receptionists, and on call staff are rude and could care less about their patients. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE GO THERE!
