Review: On March [redacted], 2014 I received a written estimate from Fernando, [redacted] of Doctor Pavers [redacted] The estimate included extending my existing driveway up to 22 feet wide, building a belguim block apron at street end of driveway, relocating existing belgium block to be consistent with the width of driveway, break up and repave existing black top driveway, In addition to above driveway work, he was to rebuild chimney top above roof line because of a few broken bricks, and some mason work. ; And lastly to repair/replace a few broken bricks on my front stoop. He stated how busy he was and wouldnt be able to get to me until beginning of July which was fine because I was having a bathroom remodeled and wanted the dumpster used for that project off the driveway before it was ripped up. A few days later I called [redacted] and informed him I wanted to go through with the work agreed to on the written estimate which was tentatively scheduled for the first or second week of July 2014. The work started a few days late which was fine. When the front stoop was completed I brought to his attention a few areas that to me appeared the mortar was flaking, coming out and sloppy, uneven edgework (which was never corrected). When [redacted] first came back to look at the stoop he downplayed it and said it was fine. I also informed and showed him the mess that was left on the brick walkway leading to the steps and he said that will wash away with time. At the same time some of his crew was repairing the chimney while the others were breaking up/ taking away the old blacktop and widening the driveway. His crew then leveled the driveway by eye after using crushed rock a one ton bag of small rocks as a foundation for the new blacktop. They looked to me like small edged rocks. The driveway was then left to settle for a few weeks and on or about August [redacted] 2014 the blacktop was then put down by a firm HE subcontracted with. I was told not to park vehicles for ten days and I gave it over two weeks before I removed the yellow caution tape placed at end of driveway. About a week or so later after a heavy rain, I took notice of the driveway and saw indented tire tread marks throughout driveway. I called [redacted] a few times and when he finally called back he said he would take a look, and minimized my concerns stating how bad could it be if you first noticed it when driveway was wet? I also brought to his attention the pitch was off leaving puddles to sit in the same place without getting down to curb. He stated just because the water pools in one spot doesnt mean anything is wrong with the pitch or levelness of the driveway. Again excuses and saying it was normal. At one point I even parked my SUV in an area in the newly blacktopped driveway a bit further from my house and placed chalk marks where my tires made contact with the blacktop. When I moved my car the next morning it was raining and saw and felt new track indentations on the driveway within the chalk marks where my tires sat. At the same time I was having these issues, my boss was having the same problem of faulty asphalt with a different company. Finally [redacted] agreed to come back with the [redacted] of the company HE subcontracted it out to and re-inspect the blacktop that was put down. While I could not understand their conversation that was in Spanish, [redacted] translated for me, that the [redacted] of the subcontracting company finally came out and admitted to [redacted] that the asphalt was faulty and that the driveway was to be ripped up again, and this time they were going to use airport grade blacktop that he said uses more rock and would look a bit lighter and look more like the street, pointing to the street at the same time. On September **, 2014 I spoke with [redacted] about a new date to rip up and re blacktop the first job. When I questioned what would be used for the base, [redacted] said I might not need crushed rocks or concrete under the new asphalt-the crew would make the layer of asphalt deeper. Since this didnt sound right I did research and was told by a [redacted] road crew that the subsurface of crushed rock/concrete is necessary in order for asphalt to adhere to the surface. If subsurface isnt properly set, the driveway will not last. When the faulty asphalt was removed I saw a significant amount of crushed rock pulled up and removed with the asphalt. I questioned [redacted] about that over the phone and he said it didnt matter and that you really dont even need the crushed rock under the asphalt to adhere properly. Funny, but this was the opposite of what he first said when he gave me the job estimate; and if true, why was 1 ton of crushed rock used as a foundation under the first blacktop? October [redacted], 2014, the driveway was redone and almost immediately I noticed that the pitch was off and after two weeks started parking my vehicles in driveway. Almost immediately I noticed the same thing happening as in the first time blacktop was completed. Tire tracks indents forming each time the cars were parked on the newly installed blacktop. . Got [redacted] to come back and look at both the new blacktop and the mortar work again on the front stoop and this time he agreed to have his guys re-apply mortar to a few areas, but continued dismissing my concerns about the sinking of the asphalt as cars were parked in driveway leaving track marks each time vehicles were parked. Again, he kept saying I was overreacting and that this is normal and wont be seen a year from now when driveway should be seal coated. When I brought up the fact that this asphalt was just as bad as the first one and not the higher quality airport grade described and promised, [redacted] had no response. Fast forward to spring of 2015, 6 months after faulty asphalt was replaced with faulty asphalt, not airport quality asphalt, new tire tread marks appear and can be felt whenever a vehicle sits for a period of time. In addition, I changedDesired Settlement: Either repaired to a high quality or refunded for whatever it will cost me to have work performed properly by a different company.
