we went out to [redacted] home on 11-17-2016 from a warranty call through American Home Shield for a dryer.  the complaint from the homeowner was that the dryer was taking too long to dry and that there was very little heat.  we had two techs on the truck that day so both of the guys...

went in and started checking out the dryer.  found the dryer heating properly with the vent off so proceeded to explain to the homeowner that the vent had a clog or needed to be cleaned so that it has good air flow.  the homeowner and one of the techs went outside to check the vent and homeowner was there and they said there is no airflow coming from your vent.  we did quote her a price of a normal vent clean out of 125.  the homeowner proceeded to tell the tech they had tried to clean vent themselves with a leaf blower but still had issue with the dryer.  when the tech started to vent clean out by running the brush through the vent the brush did get hung.  there is nothing on the brush that could separate the vent itself.  the homeowner was present through all of this.  we tried to explain that there seemed to be a part of the vent that had come apart, so we couldn't run brush through to clean the vent properly.  this could have been from when the homeowner had tried to clean the vent themselves.  we did offer to repair the vent if the homeowner could get us an access point to the vent so we could repair.  there is no way to know how long vent had been dislodged since the homeowner says herself she has had issues with the vent before we even arrived to the home.  we did not collect any money from the homeowner since there was no way we could complete the clean out. I would like to add that we tried to explain to homeowner that the tape that had been put on vent was a duct tape and had deteriorated, it was not the usual high heat tape that most vents have on them.  also the vent doesn't have an access point so that the issue can be resolved by reinstalling the vent with the proper tape.  we did offer to repair the vent and finish the clean out of the vent if the homeowner had someone cut an accessible spot so that the vent could be taken care of.  she wanted us to do that ourselves, we declined since we do not have the tools to complete the cutting of the access hole.
