Doing It Right Roofing Siding Remodeling Reviews (1)

Review: Do It Right was contracted to replace a roof and construct a porch addition. The roof was installed poorly 2 times before they did it correctly the third time. They were paid in full for the roof. I then received an email from them about a drawing to be submitted for my building permit for the porch. The 1st one was rejected by the borough. They informed me that if I wished to continue with the 6'x 9' porch addition it would cost me an additional $1,000.00 to have them do a drawing. I feel they are trying to recoup the expense of fixing my roof until they got it right. They also made a math mistake in their contract and tried to pass that expense on to me as well.Desired Settlement: I wish they would fulfill their part of the contract, but now I am afraid that they would do a bad job on purpose.

Response:

I do apologize for the lateness of this response. I have been waiting since September 24,2013 for the consumer to cash the refund check that we returned to her. I wanted to make sure that when the response was that check both front & back along with a copy of the contract for work to be performed. I am responding to complaint # [redacted]. First & foremost as a highly respected business owner & trades contractor I take these complaints very seriously. I wish to state for the record that we are a No Money Down I Balance on Completion contractor whose goal, with that arrangement, is to provide each & every homeowner with a 100% satisfied installation. Again, with those terms, why wouldn’t we. Again, for the record we never asked for any money before or during this project. The only time that we did invoice for payment was per the contract agreement of stage work completed. Due to a clerical error our sales representative added up his figures wrong. In no way were we looking to take an additional $ 500.00 from the consumer for any reason. It was just plain & simple an error in arithmetic. Once the error was pointed out & the figures were confirmed a check in the amount of $ 500.00 was sent to the consumer. That check was mailed & we were delayed writing this reply to assure that the check was received & cashed so that I could attach a copy of the check for record. 1. Please find attached copy of the contract. We have seen a trend as of late with contract agreements not only through our own business but through other business professionals that we deal with. It seems that the contract does not seem to matter other than if it only benefits the consumer & I must say that is completely unacceptable with this business or any business for that matters. In this case that holds true as well. I no way shape or form does it say anything in the contract about our firm securing any permits or doing any type of drawings at all. This is very important to the entire complaint. It states in the contract that the homeowner will pay for the permit & that is all. They provided us with a schematic drawing, also attached of what they wanted the attached porch to loot? like. We are a roofing siding & remodeling firm. We are not Architects. We can provide drawings for projects but do so at a cost. We are incapable of doing so affordable or quickly though. If we were to do so we would have specified that in detail in the contract ( see the contract, have you ever seen a more detailed contract ever submitted for a roof installation, doubtful). We pride ourselves on the fact that we are so detailed & that contract specification proves it. When it seemed that the consumer was not going to provide us with any drawings we attempted to do the drawings to our best ability. We did this to do the right thing & as a courtesy. When they were denied by the building department I then sent an e mail to the sales representative informing him of the plight. I asked him to contact the consumer to discuss the problem with her. The e mail stated that I & my staff are not Architects. By the contract terms we are not to secure permit. If I was to secure permits I would have to get a professional to draw porch structure & what I have been quoted it would have been around $ 1,000.00 to secure the proper acceptable drawings. We were not asking for the money, we were just stating that that was what they would cost us to have them done or what I would charge if accepted. She did not have to agree, we were only stating it to attempt to resolve the matter. After this went all down we then began receiving nasty e mails from the consumer with all types of threats & displeasures. I would have been willing to speak with them about this but the situation has turned into them bashing us & trying to discredit us in every circle as well as becoming vengeful & doing everything they can to hurt our business. This has now escalated into a serious matter that we attempted to resolve professionally & honestly. 2. I remark was made as pertains to the roof installation as well accusing us of trying to make up for lost profit. This statement makes no sense. It was our firm who does inspections on the roof on our own merit after they are complete. We found problems that we were concerned with. We were the ones that made the changes & repairs on our own decision to do so. The homeowner had no complaint or no idea what was even going on. We took complete control of the situation & made all of the necessary adjustments without having to be told by anyone. Now that’s a good contractor. Plus, we never asked for payment until we knew the problem was resolved. It would not have mattered if we did the repairs 100 times. The homeowner should be grateful we did so. The remark of making up for lost profit is ridiculous. We could have controlled that & decided to do the right thing instead. Do it Right. One has nothing to do with the other. I hope this response is a clear & acceptable one also showing how vulnerable & open that good contractors like us are & indeed taken advantage of by homeowners & how their interpretation of things are exaggerated. In addition I look to have this complaint not affect my A+ rating with the Revdex.com & asked that every consideration be taken for the contractor that was only looking to do the right things. That was to complete the project they started ( per the contract) We were always willing to make anything right & discuss things to make them right. Unfortunately, the homeowner decided that an attack against us would be the right thing instead.
