POORLY RUN GYM!!! Facility is dirty and equipment is in disrepair. [redacted] is often disrespectful to members and belittles staff in front of others!
Beware!! Very difficult to get out of membership.[redacted] difficult to deal with. Gives you many excuses and have to jump through hoops to cancel membership. STAY AWAY!!

Review: Since Big Al's is a gym that provided tanning, I have paid for a tanning package and a week later I was informed that they are closing down the tanning beds and will provide newer ones. I was told when tanning reopens, I can continue my account. After two years, they now tell me a corporate tanning company is taking over the tanning and I cannot get my money back.Desired Settlement: I would like full refund (unused tanning minutes approx. $70 )

Review: I cancel my gym membership over a year ago , after suffering a debilitating injury ,gym requested I also send in a registered letter which I did , but they still haven't cancel my membership and I have called more then once to complain, also without realizing my account pointed out to me that it was still being deducted from my accountDesired Settlement: a letter of apology and a refund

Review: Signed a contract in late 2010 for one year. Contract expired in late 2011. I had requested they cancel the contract in writing. I spoke to [redacted] in August 2012 regarding the fact that I was continually billed. Was told on August [redacted], 2012 that it would be cancelled and I would not be charged again. Was billed until March 2013 when I contacted my bank and told them not to allow Big Al's to charge me anymore. In May of 2013 my account was sent out to collections via ABC financial. I explained the situation and was told it was going to be handled and I would not have to worry. They sent my account to another collection agency who was rude and put this false account on my credit report. [redacted] does not return my calls. Have left him many messages and when I do get him on the phone he says someone will call me back within a half hour and nobody does. This has been going on for over a year with no one I talk to especially [redacted] keeping their word and handling this the right way and cancelling my account. Have asked several times for them to show me that I am under contract and they can not produce that information either.Desired Settlement: I would like the collection activity removed off of my credit report and the $29.95 per month credited back to me from September 2012 to the present.

Review: I was a member with Dolphin Fitness club, or technically the spinning classes within the gym. I followed the previous owner of the spin classes who moved from her own studio to a space within the gym. I had been with her for two years before she moved into the gym who now had control over the billing and whatever else, I think she just managed the schedules and the trainers including herself. I never had a problem with her. The problem is with the gym, their billing and the people who work there and have no idea what is going on. Someone called me and left a message on March [redacted] of 2014 and said that my membership was expiring the end of April. I decided I would look at other options so I continued to go there until the last weekend in April and never went back. I was billed in May and again June, when I realized it I had called to explain the situation and discuss/dispute the charges. I was asked to come in and talk with the person in charge of billing but now he said it wasn't up to him to give me credit and maybe I can get one month credit back, he had to speak to someone else. He explained people purchase memberships all the time and don't go to the gym so I had him listen to my voice mail and he could see from my record I was last there the end of April because I was told my membership was expired! Some things are just that simple, there is nothing really to argue here and yet they charged me two months after I received that message. I was only reimbursed one month and now, here is August and they charged me again! This is not the only time I had to dispute a billing issue with them. I don't have the time to go into that story. By the way, the only reason I was there was for the spinning and the instructors and they are barely there anymore...otherwise I wouldn't be in that old, dumpy place.Desired Settlement: I would like to be reimbursed, I was really upset they only gave me one of two months...now they took another month. Now I would like May back as well as August. That is $52.43/month...$104.86 in total.

Review: On November **, 2013 I received a letter from Tightan Gym. The letter said that I should contact them to pay for my membership fee for the month of November 2013. I sent via post office the cancellation form and the Dr. note as they required on October **,2013. The cancellation letter was received by Tightan Gym on October **,2013. I have a receipt from Post office. When I opened the gym's membership on September *, 2013 I paid $89.98. I paid $27.48 for September's monthly fee, "THE" last month's membership fee, and some other fee which was not clearly stated to me or on the membership agreement. Since the last month of the membership is November, 2013 I do not owe Tightan Gym any money. They already took out the fee for the last month back on September *, 2013.Today, I spoke to "[redacted]", who is in charge of billing issues at Tightan Gym. She promised me that she would fix this matter. I asked her to send me a letter so I can have proof that I am clear, but she replied "I DON'T DO THAT". I asked her why? If she is promising (over the phone), to take care of the matter, not to worry about it, She replied that its complicated because she would have to contact the company that handles the billing for them. I hope you get the picture, she will continue to "harass me" to pay for November and more.I have supporting documents and receipt should you need them, please let me know.Thank you in advance for your assistance in the matter.Desired Settlement: I would like Tightan Gym to:- Send me a letter stating that I cancelled the membership and I do not owe them any money.- stop contacting me on the phone to come in and pay for the month of November 2013.- Detail on the letter why they charged me $89.98 since it was not done by their representative when I opened the membership.

Review: I cancelled the gym membership as required by this club. I went in person in Feb 2013 and was given a cancel form to mail. They have a 30 days in advance cancel policy. I mailed the form as required immediately. Now it is July 2013 and I received a letter stating I still owe the club dues. I cancelled this membership per their procedure and now they are unethically sending a letter for payment. They are in fact trying to collect $35 plus a $10 late fee because [redacted] at the club who handles billing claims he received the cancel letter late. Now he says I owe another month's fee a total of $45.00 He claims he tried to call me but I never received a call or letter in the mail. All these months later, I now receive a letter demanding payment for $190.90 for the last 5 months. He says I only have to pay the one month fee of $45. I feel this is a scam to collect money for a closed account. He is threatening collections activity as well.Desired Settlement: Cancel the membership as requested and cancel the collections activity pursuing a payment of $45. which is not owed. Furthermore,I have never used the gym also.

Review: 1.I've been a loyal customer of Big Al's Family Fitness since the early 2000s. I've enjoyed their services and even convinced my husband and best friend to sign up. I normally pay $300 a year. Back in 2005, a sales associate attempted to resign me for 500 bucks a year, which didn't seem fair. The owner corrected the problem. A few years ago the gym implemented a maintenance fee of 30 bucks, which increased my yearly fee. When I went in to resign last year I was told that I'd get three months free and would receive a promotion, which would save me $200. The sales associate, [redacted], made a promise that I'd only be required to pay $99 plus the maintenance to resign thereafter. She informed me that in order to make sure that I received the promotion, I'd have to resign early. She also mentioned an automatic charge to my credit card. However rather than receive 3 months free, I've only received 2 months free. I called in May of this year to follow up and make sure that I receive the promotion of $99 for resigning. After several attempts to contact [redacted], I finally spoke with her on the phone. She then informed me that she could NO longer offer me the deal. She said that the best she could offer was $199 for the first year of resigning and 99 thereafter. I told her that that was unfair and she responded that that promotion ended. Ultimately, I asked for a copy of the contract that I signed from last year and requested a phone call from the owner. She ended the phone call by hanging up the phone on me. The contract I received in the mail was re-generated and didn't include my signature. In short, it was invalid. I never received a call back from the owner. When I did call to follow up the following week, the call was disconnected. I recently received a phone call from another sales associate to resign. When I returned the call, I spoke with [redacted] who mentioned that he could only offer me 199 for the year. I strongly believe that Big Al's Family Fitness's advertising practices are sketchy & misleading.Desired Settlement: Originally, I had no problems paying the original membership fee. However, I was excited to receive the offer and gladly wanted to take advantage of it. I've been a loyal member for over 10 years, and felt like I was treated with disrespect. No one should ever feel that their loyalty is under appreciated. I strongly believe that Big Al's Family Fitness should honor the promotion of $99. I would also appreciate a letter of apology for the inconvenience.

Business

Response:

In response to the allegations made on Big Al's Fitness Clubs we apologize if the said complainant feels as if they were mislead. However, as in any company there are promotional advertisements with expiration. All documentation can be a testament to this. We found our business on love, loyalty, and respect of our clientele both new and seasoned which can be proved in our retention.

Thank you.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here]

I was not made aware that this promotion would expire at the time that the promotion was offered. When I signed up in May 2012, it was explained that my rate the following year (2013) would be $99. Had I known that this deal would expire, it would have altered my decision to commit to signing up. Also when asked to furnish the original signed copy of my contract, one was not given. The representative sent me an unsigned copy of the agreement instead.

Review: I signed up to this fitness facility at around 9/2012, Unfortunately Sandy impacted the location and myself because I had to move as well. Finally was able to find a place to live I notified them I wanted to cancel, they said that due to the circumstances that I would be able to put a hold on the account and start back up again in June of 2013. I told them look I will not remember that can we notate the account and call me when its up and running again since it was going to be suspended? They said sure we can do that. Come around July 2013 I picked up mail that was still at the resident location and there they were sending me charges with late fees and now in September 2013 I was put into collections. I spoke with Swift Funds Financial Services and I explained the situation and we got into an agreement to from $183 to $100 plus 16 processing fee. I had to have that resolve because I am currently already trying to repair my financial status because of my student loans.Desired Settlement: I would like my money back of $116 because I wanted to cancel in the first place. I believe they were trying to save their clientele base by helping with suspending accounts but to lie with no outreach and charge late fees is unacceptable and unethical.

Response:

In response to the complaint made by client [redacted] (Primary) - [redacted].

Honoring our exceptional customer service we as a business have worked above and beyond in providing [redacted] (Primary) - [redacted]

with both verbal and written documentation on the policies of the business. At no point are any clientele forced to remain a member , and can simply cancel

following the contractual guidelines which were provided again both verbally and within her signed contractual agreements. If need be a copy of this can be provided.

As a business with an active 8,000 members we must follow protocol... disregarding this we even requested for the collections company to lower the fees for the respected client .

In which case they decreased the fees she was required to pay. Again, as business we have done our part; and apologize if

[redacted] (Primary) - [redacted] feels otherwise. Thank you.
