Dolson Ave Tire and Auto Reviews (2)

Review: The manager at this location (Ryan), and the band of dishonest thieves working here are going to get someone killed with their sub-par quality of work.

Ed Perry, the owner has no concern for the type of work that is done in this place. A seemingly common practice; Ryan's dishonesty about pricing and work performance, having faulty work performed on vehicles, and shunning customers away when the damage that they caused while performing a different repair is questioned.

I needed a belt tensioner pulley replaced on my MB SUV. I went to Good Year on Dolson Ave in Middletown to get this work done, based off of a referral. Ryan and Marty seemed genuine enough in the beginning stages of dealing with them, but once they were paid for the work that was "done", it was all downhill from there.

Before I drove my car from the parking lot, upon starting the engine, the coolant light was on and the engine sounded different. I left a note saying to call me, since the shop was closed at that time. Ryan called me the next morning and insisted I bring the car in for another diagnostic, with fee of course-to which I refused to pay. The car was not driven from that day until a few days later when I started it again and heard odd sounds coming from the engine. I opened the hood and saw the fan and connected pulley off-center and wobbling on their axes.

I called Ryan and told him about this and he told me to bring it in. With an attitude, Ryan explained that there's nothing they did that would have caused this to happen, while in the same breath mentioning the job was a quick 20 minutes to replace the belt and pulley assembly. Moments later, caught in his lie-the extra time charged on the bill was unjustified.

The next day we contacted our warranty company. Ryan spoke with them, and gave my wife and I different info than what was relayed from the warranty contact.

Ryan lied to us, changed docs of what needed to be done, what was really done, and caused more damage than what it was brought in for.Desired Settlement: Due to the dishonesty and level of work, which is sketchy-at best. I am requesting that we be refunded for the amount that was paid to have the initial work done, which was almost $400, negating the fact that the damage they caused while performing this repair will now cost an additional $600 to repair.

Response:

At this time, I have not been contacted by Dolson Ave Tire and Auto regarding complaint ID [redacted].I attempted contact and resolution from them, but to no avail. Ryan, and Marty are extremely unprofessional, and Ed Perry (the owner of this location) is completely negligent and cares less to deal with the wrongful practices and dishonesty that his employees are performing within his establishment.Overall, the level of service provided by Good Year-Dolson Ave Tire and Auto is shameful. Sincerely,[redacted]

Review: Hi Dear, I had a coupon via weekend newspaper from Dolson Auto & tire, which is located at [redacted] On the coupon it says "Alignment $39.99. Wheel Alignment with new Hunter systems for the most accuracy and mileage. 1 Year warranty NATIONWIDE. * MOST CARS* lifetime alignment package also available with 4 new tires purchase* Exp: 12/**/13. " I went to Dolson Auto and Tire on 12/**/2013 at 6:01 PM. and had them alignment done on my car which is Nissan Sentra 2005. Prior to alignment, on 11/**/2013 I went to Dolson Auto and Tire to have the them to do the alignment on my car. However I forgot to take the coupon with me. At that time I was told that without coupon alignment is $79.99. So I left the store without alignment service is done. On 12/**/2013 I return to store with the above noted coupon. The alignment was done and I paid $44.24 including $3.25 state sales tax and $1.00 Suply charges. After checking the invoice today (12/**/2013), I realized that they did "front end alignment only." If this coupon was for "Front end alignment only " THEY SHOULD HAVE INDICATED THIS ON THE COUPON clearly. But the coupon does not mention anything about it if Front or Rear end alignment only. I was under the impression that they did the whole alignment including front and rear end alignment. Before, during and after the servis they did not mentioned this to me either. This is misleading and ripping off the consumer with so called "coupons."Desired Settlement: I want them honer their coupon and complete the job by duing rear end alignment also.

Response:

Dear Mediator,

Thank you for sending [redacted] concerns. I am sorry to address you as "Mediator" however your name was not included in the letter. I understand the customer feels that a coupon was somehow a "rip off' and we are sorry [redacted] created this idea as he states "I was under the impression that they did the whole alignment including a front and rear end alignment." [redacted] earlier in his statement wrote that he stopped in 11/** and asked for "an alignment" however he forgot the coupon and was told the cost of an alignment was $79.99 so he left to get his coupon which saved him nearly $40, or approximately half the normal price.

This represents a very good value. [redacted] admits in this statement that he was made aware of the cost of an alignment prior to purchase and is aware of the value. The coupon states *most cars as [redacted] states he is aware of in his statement. The *most cars exclusion was printed as there are thousands of vehicle configurations some have various special procedures and conditions requiring additional work at additional cost and thus the exclusion stated in the coupon.

The service performed was an alignment and that service was rendered. In this case no other services were suggested because none were found at the time of this service. However if additional services were needed there would have been an additional charge. This was not the case and [redacted] was not charged any additional amount over the coupon price. I do however note that the employee errored in the charge by $1 and we would like to refund that to the customer.

I do understand how someone may confuse the term alignment and not understand how the public may use this term interchangeably . To explain furiher, all modern alignment systems perform alignment by referencing angles and providing technicians with values to adjust to. These are computer generated based upon complex algorithms and all four wheels are targeted using lasers, optical refraction targets, and multiple cameras that look for angles and change in angle during the process. Hunter alignmentmachines look at all four wheels. The technician can not look at only two.

In some cases a four wheel alignment may or may not require additional procedures. In the case of [redacted] he did not need any additional charges. I am sorry for the confusion [redacted] expresses and can assure he received a very valuable service that he is acutely aware normally costs $79 for $39.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Dear Sir /Madam

I received a response from [redacted]/ Goodyear Tire regarding my original complaint dated 12/**/2013. My complaint is not about how to do alignment. I do not need to know how alignment is done. The original complaint is about their false advertisement and ripping off the customer with it. After receiving my complaint [redacted] from Dolson Tire /Good year Tire called me on 12/**/2013 at about 11:26 AM and left a message to settle the dispute. When I returned their call on or around 12/**/2013 [redacted] presented himself as store manager and said," We did the front end alignment only because at the time of service we told you that you need rear end alignment also, which is $40.00 EXTRA. However you refused us to do the rear end alignment." After making the above quoted statement he hung up the phone. Now today (12/**/2013) I received a written rebuttal from Dolson Tire / Goodyear Tire via you (Revdex.com) which gives detailed information about how alignment is done and states " This service performed was an alignment and that service was rendered. In this case no other service were suggested because none were found at the time of this service." Store manager [redacted] and writer of the rebuttal contradicting / disputing each other to cover up the rip off. As I mentioned on my original complaint at the time of service which was rendered on 12/**/2013 I was never ever suggested or told that my car needs rear end alignment as well. Furthermore at the time of service I was never ever told that the so called COUPON was for front or rear end alignment only. As you can see below quoted statement from the COUPON, the COUPON it self does not say either. If you read the statement from the COUPON It suggest full alignment -including front and rear end alignment- is $39.00. As I stated on my original complain so called COUPON SAYS "Alignment $39.00 Wheel alignment with new hunter systems for the most accuracy and mileage. 1 year warrant Nationwide. *Most cares life time alignment package also available with 4 new tire purchase. Exp 12/**/13." As you can see from the above noted QUOT the COUPON DOES NOT SAY *MOST CARS REQUIRES ADDITIONAL WORK AT ADDITIONAL COST." However the writer of the rebuttal misleading you again on this issue as well. The writer of the rebuttal is acutely aware that there is another alignment center across Dolson Tire/Goodyear Tire and does the full alignment -including front and rear end- for $49.00. Again The so called COUPON is misleading customers to rip off. If Dolson Tire/Goodyear Tire made misstate by typo/print error, they should correct their mistake by honoring their coupon and completing the job.

Sincerely,
