Review: I was lied to by the staff several times and not given correct information.

On Dec 3 my sons car was towed after breaking down on the side of the road. I contacted Don D Davis towing company on Dec 4th and spoke with the receptionist. She told me that it would be $550 to get the car out. I asked to speak with the owner Wilma Knowles who refused to get on the phone with me. The following day I was told that Wilma would be in the office so I went down there when I got of work only to find that Wilma was not in but her daughter [redacted] and the receptionist were there. I asked for a break down of the fees and was only given a verbal of the breakdown not a print out. [redacted] told me that it was $200 and hr for 2 hrs for the tow even though it is no more than 10 miles and the rest was a fee that the sheriff charges and I could go down to the sheriffs station and see if they would reduce their fee and also that she would have her mom Wilma call me the next day. I never received a call back from Wilma. Also they said the only way to stop the daily storage fee of $50 was to sign a bill of sale signing the car over to them until we could pay for the car so we did that and I specifically asked so there will be no more fees it will just cost $550 to get it out? They told us yes $550 and by signing that bill of sale that stops all fees. I also went to the local sheriffs office and was told that the sheriffs do not charge a fee. I could not make it back to the office until Tues the 10th when I went into the office and asked [redacted] why she sent me to the sheriffs office to ask to reduce their fee she said that they do have a contract fee with the sheriff and that I was wasting her time and I either needed to pay the money or leave. On Thurs Dec 12th we received a lien sale notice in the mail stating that they put a lien on the car. We went in on Friday Dec 13th to pay the $550 we were quoted and there was an additional $70 added on for the lien that they placed. When I questioned them They said they are required by law to put that lien on after 5 days of them having possession of the vehicle. I said why was this not disclosed to me on the other times that I had come in and they told me it hadn't gotten to that point yet. I was in their office on the 10th which is definitely after 5 days of possession and I asked for a cost breakdown on that day as well and was not given one nor was it disclosed to me that this was going to happen. They said all we would have to pay was $550. Finally we were told that the possessions were removed from the car to keep them 'safe' but what they neglected to mention was that they cut the wires on the speaker box right at the edge of them instead of just unscrewing the bolt.Desired Settlement: I would like to be partially reimbursed for what I paid these people. I would like to receive a reimbursement of $400.

Review: They towed my vehicle to their scrap yard without my permission. They only gave me a business card with only a fictitious business name and phone number no other information on their business where they were located or even where my car was taken to. My car was towed on Friday afternoon. Which I called after after I got out of the hospital with my husband which wasn't until after 5 p.m. when we called Friday evening the operator refuse to give us any information in regards to our vehicle she kept putting us on hold telling my husband that CHP put a hold on our vehicle and we had to contact them to get a release form. When there was no hold put on her vehicle from CHP. They are trying to charge me for the tow plus storage fees for Friday if I wanted to come get my car on Friday they wanted to charge me another hundred dollars to let me get my car because it was after hours. If I waited until Monday they are charging me $50 a day for storage fees.Monday morning I found Their office tried to get my belongings out of my vehicle they refuse to tell me where my vehicle is it is not at their main office it is at a junk yard up the road. They told my husband that if we did not leave they were going to contact the police to make us leave. My husband had to contact to the local police department to have a officer come down to their business so we could get our belongings out of our vehicle. They will not give me a business License. the company is trying to charge me over $600 for the tow and the weekend of storage. They said they're charging me 200 dollars an hour and saying the tow total two hours. Plus fees for the weekend.Desired Settlement: I would like to be able to pick up my car by a different Tow company without paying their ridiculous fees trying to rip people off. They should have their company shut down.

Don D Davis Towing was called by the CHP at 2:07pm on Friday 10/31/2014. The request was for towing from the scene of an accident. This tow took the tow truck operator 2 hours due to distance and the tires being locked up from the accident. Our business cards have our company name Don D Davis Towing and the phone number for our answering service. We have a contract (along with 9 other towing companies in our area)with the California Highway Patrol and the City of Redding Police Department. We all charge the same hourly fee (within 5%) of $200.00 per hour and storage fee of $50.00 per day, we also all charge an after hours fee of $100.00 for weekend or after hour callout. The fee schedule is posted in our office. I have contacted our answering service and they say they would never give out any information on a call, they will only put the customer through to the tow operator. Monday morning Mr. [redacted] showed up in my office with an attitude and would not stop with his verbal abuse of what a rip off our company is and telling me that we towed his vehicle without his permission and we needed to release it to him. I tried to explain to him the procedure but he continued to interrupt and verbalizing what a rip off this was. I warned Mr. [redacted] 3 times that if he did not stop with the verbal abuse I would not continue to help him. As you can figure out, he did not stop and I asked him to leave our business. He refused to leave. I then picked up the phone to call the police and he said, "I will call the police myself." I let him call the police and he waited upstairs in our business for 2 hours until an officer came and Mr. [redacted]'s belongings were released to him. Our business license is posted in our office but when he was asking for these items we were waiting for an officer to arrive.
