The first contact with this customer was November 9th At that time he asked for, and was given an “Estimate” for a complete dismantle, clean and assemble of a stock Chevy motor of $plus partsWe do not give quotesOur policy is to give estimates only on this type of serviceA
few days later the customer called and informed us that it was a “Racing” engine and he was told at that time we do not warranty any type of racing engines or partsKeep in mind that this customer is a 4Xmud racer The customer called numerous times during the following month, asking for additional prices on different parts and services we offerDuring those conversations he stated that he had changed his mind and would not be having us to do some of the work or ordering some of the parts that were in his original estimateHe also stated that he would like to have some additional services performed and parts ordered that were not in his original estimate The customer dropped his truck off on December 13th and was given another “estimate” of how much machine shop labor would beIt is our policy to not give "estimates" on parts costHe also stated that he did not need the work completed until the end of February or the beginning of MarchHe said that he had a race in April of and would like to have it beforehand so he could do some testing and tuningHe had been told that parts would have to be paid for in advance of ordering themHe made a payment of $via checkA few days after giving us this check the customer called and asked if we could hold the check as he did not have the funds to cover itWe did hold the checkWe had several conversations via emails and phone calls about the funds associated with that check during December, January, February and MarchWe did start the process by dismantling and cleaning of the engine prior to receiving funds for special order partsFinally, sometime at the beginning of February, the customer called and said we could cash the checkOn February 14th 2017, after depositing the check it was returned to us by our bank, stating nonsufficient fundsOn February, 17th we redeposited the checkThe check cleared after a few daysWe received the funds to pay for the parts and we were able to proceed with assembling of the motor The customer picked up the truck on March 9th, At that time he was told that the valve covers may leak some oil due to the fact that the gasket had not been replaced to save money( The gaskets were not replaced because the customer would need to remove the valve covers shortly after running the truck to readjust the valves as necessary and those gaskets would then need to be replaced again at that time) The customer called about a week later stating that he had taken the truck to his first race and was happy with the performance of the truck and that he had placed 2nd and his daughter had placed 3rd On April 10th the customer called and wanted us to “fix” his engine, he was told that we do not warranty racing components, however he could bring it to the shop and we would diagnosis itAlso if in that diagnosis there were any issues that were determined to be the fault of the shop we would make that goodTo date he has not returned to the shop with the truck
