Doneright Contracting Reviews (1)

Review: [redacted], of Doneright Contracting never offered a written contract, when asked, he told me that estimate he gave me via email would suffice. He never provided us with his license number either when asked. He told us he was licensed but had his sons doing the work. One of his sons shared with me that he really didn't know what he was doing because he was an unempolyeed mechanic helping out his dad until he got a job. Several times during the remodel of our bathroom he asked for his money & told us that we needed to pay more if there was something we weren't pleased with that he had done. [redacted] put a cut out in the shower but put materials that we didn't approve of in it. When we questioned it he said it would cost us more when we had provided the tiles & grout already. He told us he would be charging us an additional $400 for a floor then didn't put a floor under our vanity. When we questioned it, he told us he ran out of tile (but didn't tell us) & couldn't do the full floor. When we purchased the additional tiles to put under the vanity he said it would cost additional to remove the vanity & complete the flooring under it. He put in a window improperly as well as our shower necessitating us to remove what he had done & redo his work. The electrical work he did was done incorrectly as well. He never cleaned up after himself leaving cigarette butts, tiles, & stains on our walkway which he denied. He left in a huff leaving us in a position where we need to hire someone else to repair the damage he did. We felt harassed by him for the sub par work he did. He shouldn't be allowed to con or threaten anyone else.Desired Settlement: We have needed to get an estimate of what it would cost to have the walls, tiles & flooring removed & replaced. We need to call an electrician to out in items he miswired & we will need to have our walkway power washed from the stains he left. We need to be reimbursed for these costs.

Dear **. [redacted],

I am going to address the customer’s complaint that you wrote to my company about step by step according to her statement of the problem. I hope this is the correct way to do this as I have never had a complaint with the Revdex.com before and I worked hard every day for over 19 years in the contracting business in keeping my customer satisfied.

Unfortunately this customer is angry because she did not pay in full total cost for work was $5100.00 before she changed the kind of flooring that we were installing which changed price to 5500.00. She only paid 4853.00. I explained to her that I will have to seek restitution through the courts and report it to the three credit agencies.

The customer stated that I never offered her a written contract when asked. The customer never asked for a written contract if she had I would have gladly given her one. She then goes on to state that when asked I never gave her a license number. Again customer only

asked if we were bonded and licensed as to which my answer was yes. I have attached a copy of all the emails between customer and my company. You can see for yourself in the email dated July 4, 2013 that is exactly what I did. Further I would have gladly given it to

the customer if she asked it is not something I hide as it is boldly written on both the sides and back of my work truck. Furthermore the customer could have easily verified that I was licensed through the State Attorney General Office website.

The customer also wanted to address the fact that I had my son working at the job site. That he is an unemployed mechanic. This is true. I have him working as a laborer since he lost his job to help him out. As a laborer all he does is clean up job sites, move and brings me my materials. He never does any of the skilled work. The reason the customer knows this about him is because he told her this when she asked him to do some handy man work around her house that she had asked for in her email dated June 1, 2013 that I given her pricing for that she didn’t want to go forward with because she didn’t want to pay the amount I was charging her. I was on the job site everyday all day while my company was there.

As for her stating that I keep asking her for money during the remodel this is not true. I asked for half before the job started and the rest when it was done. The only time I discussed money with the customer during the job was when she would start to change things that was not part of the original estimate. Customer also stated that we installed product that she did not approve of. This she would have to take up with her husband as he was the one there that day and Okayed it as you can read in email dated July 31, 2013.

Customer also states that we did not install a full bathroom floor. I had told her husband the day we were installing the floor that they did not get the proper amount of tile for the floor. I explained to her husband that I could make the amount of tile they had work if I didn’t tile under their vanity. He said that would be fine and save him money. Customer is correct that I told her it would cost additional money to install the tile under the vanity. When she addressed this problem with me I had already installed the vanity and did all the plumbing work for the faucet. In order to install the tile under the vanity I would have to undo the plumbing for the faucet and remove the vanity. Then reinstall vanity and plumbing for the faucet as well as the faucet. If customer’s husband did not okay this to begin with this problem would not have arisen.

The customer states at the end of her complaint that they had to remove the window and shower and have our work redone. I do not know how she has done that considering that the date I completed the window and corrected her punch list in her email dated August 14, 2013 was on Thursday September 5, 2013. The date that she filed the complaint with you. So I would have to say that is an outright he. Also to further prove that the customer lied see attached copy of letter that was sent to my company dated September 9, 2013. In this letter she states that she had two different contractors out to look at work that was done. In her statement to you she said that she had to hire someone else to repair the damage that I did. Which letter states the truth???? She also said that the electrical work that I did was done incorrectly, yet she states in her emails dated July 31, 2013 that she was so happy with our work and to thank my crew for her. In fact if I had indeed wired her lights incorrectly, they would not have given her the light to see her board games (email dated July 31, 2013 @9:02 states this).

We also cleaned up after ourselves every day. We left no cigarette butts on her property that would be impossible since none of my crew smokes. I can also guarantee you if I stained her property like she said in her complaint she would have let me know in one of her many emails to us. Which she didn’t. I did not leave her in a huff. I was however angry because she refused to pay the balance and let her know that I would have to put legal actions against her and report her to the credit agencies for not paying the balance. I never con anyone in my nineteen years of business. I feel defamed by this customer for making false statements against my company. You can read her email dated August 3ld where she states that she was overall pleased with the work that was done thus far. That was all the work with the exception of the window.

As for the desired outcome the customer would like I have completed all the work that I promised to do.

I hope that I addressed all her issues which I believe are because she didn’t want to finish paying her balance. In her emails she is always saying how tight her money is. I believe she got in over her head and this is her way out of paying the balance. She was in her own word in the email dated August 3, 2013 pleased with our work.

Thank you,

Done Right Contracting, Inc.

Dear [redacted],

We are writing back to you about case number ID [redacted]; the [redacted] complaint about Doneright Inc. We have reviewed his letter and find that many of his “facts” are misrepresented or frankly, just untrue. For example, he states he’s never had a negative mark against his business yet we did discover online that he has had unhappy customers because of the work he did in their home as well.

In his first paragraph he lists that we owed him $5500. If you see the original estimate he gave us was $3775 for the remodel of our bathroom. Later in the remodel he began to ask for more money with each concern or complaint we brought to his attention. For example, when we asked about replacing the shower base he told us it would cost more. When we asked about the window he said it would be additional money to purchase it & install it (which we paid him an extra $253) although it was listed in the original quote as being included. He also charged us extra money for the labor & supplies for the flooring. He told us the additional $400 was for labor & the cement board he claims he installed under the tiles. When we had the bathroom redone correctly, [redacted] witnessed there was no baseboard. We have pictures of this as well. We then discussed having hi hats put in the living & playroom. He was charging us an additional $775 plus $125 for supplies yet we paid for the hi hat caps & light switches & covers. This does not total $5500. His threat to report me to the credit bureaus is ludicrous. How can he report us for money that we owe him when he:

1. Never told us the remainder of the balance was due when the job is completed.

2. Never sent us a bill telling us the remainder of the balance (which I see has changed from what he told us in person). I will be disputing his complaint should he make one.

In addition, he claims that [redacted] “got in over her head,” does it honestly make sense to “hold out” for a few hundred dollars that he claims we still owe him when we had already paid almost $5000?

His comment in the second paragraph is that we never asked for a contract is ridiculous.

Is it not common practice to provide your customers with a written contract? I’m told from the Attorney General’s Office that all contractors are required to do so before starting work. This estimate needs to list their license number. Saying that I needed to go out to copy it off his truck is not only poor customer service, but is also not how a licensed professional would work.

In the next paragraph he tells us that his son only “cleaned up jobs” he was not only helping with the electric work with the hi hats, but we also saw him helping with the tile work in the shower. Are these not “skilled” work? In addition, he claims I asked his son (the mechanic) to do “handy work” around the house- who would do that knowing he wasn’t a “skilled laborer?” In addition, he lies about being at the worksite “all day everyday.” We have witnesses who were at the house who can also verify that this is not he case. Therefore, leaving the remodel in the hands of an unskilled laborer (a mechanic & another worker who commented “I never did this before, it looks pretty good”).

In his next paragraph he claims her never asked for additional money, if this wasn’t the case why would he have 3 checks written to him? There were several texts back & forth on the day the second check was written. Although I told him I was out of town, he still sent his son later that night to pick up a check. At that time I told him I wasn’t paying the full amount because I wasn’t satisfied with the work. With this [redacted] sent a text stating “You held out for $500 for a window?” I explained it was not only that, but an unfinished shower, a wall that wasn’t stable & a list entailing 17 items. In fact, we left sticky notes on the items from the list for his to repair, This doesn’t sound as those we were satisfied & ready to pay the remainder of the balance, so harassing us by sending his son to get the balance of the check goes against what he asked us to do (pay at the end of the remodel).

In his next paragraph he states that I was upset that they installed a product I didn’t approve of. That is incorrect- he actually installed 2 products without showing them to us. The shower base & the vinyl around the shower when I clearly showed him that there should be tiles around the cut out in the shower. When I asked him to fix it on several occasions, including the last day, he told me he would have to rip it out & this would cost an additional amount. My husband or I or another family member was in the house everyday if he had questions all he had to do before installing something that wasn’t approved, was to walk down the stairs & ask. He made his own decisions & used what he wanted rather than asking the customer, then tried to penalize us by charging us more when we didn’t like the choices he made.

In his next paragraph he states he didn’t finish the floor because we didn’t supply with enough tiles. If you see in my email before he even started the job, we asked him about tiles & how many to get. He recommended 55 & we purchased 60. There should have been enough & again, we were down stairs, if he saw he was running out of tiles wouldn’t he have asked us to get more rather than putting the vanity on top of the wood subfloor & not mention anything about it until we brought it up? He claims he talked to my husband & said he would “make the amount of tiles work” but he never once, told us that he wasn’t tiling underneath the sink when we paid an additional $400 for a WHOLE floor to be retiled, not a floor, other than under the vanity. It’s amazing, because my aunt was home that day with him so he couldn’t have had a conversation with my husband.

The quote was for the full floor. And again, he never used the cement board he charged us for. That is dishonest & outright lies.

On several occasions [redacted] states that he has “proof’ that we were satisfied with his work. Those emails were sent as he was doing the work- we were trying to give him positive reinforcement to return & not be solely negative in our comments to him. Yes, he did put in hi hats & our children enjoyed playing a board game only to find the next morning when we went to turn off our flood lights that the hi hats he installed went off too. So, yes, we did need to have an electrician come to properly install the lighting that [redacted] charged us an additional $775 & $125 to have installed wrong.

His comments about cleaning up after themselves are also wrong- again showing their unprofessional manner. There are pictures of the mess they left after they ripped out the bathroom window that we can provide. And yes, his workers do smoke- we all have asthmas, my 6 & 8 year don’t smoke nor do we or our neighbors. Despite asking them to clean up & them assuring they would, they didn’t.

It’s obvious that [redacted] is not only lying to protect himself & his “business” to work with the Revdex.com, the Attorney General’s office, or us to mediate and make things right when his work was sub par. So, with that said, we will be pursuing legal action for not only the poor work he did, for the replacement of the cracked vanity cabinet & broken linen cabinet, but also the repairs we needed to make to our home from the damage he caused. Also, he commented to the Attorney General that he was looking on [redacted]’s Facebook account through her friends & seeing who she knew & if the recent contractor was a friend. She will be looking into cyber stalking charges as well & now has proof thanks to [redacted]’s letter, that he has engaged in stalking & threatening behaviors including threatening her by contacting the credit bureaus. While I know this case is challenging because there is no proof of what was said in person, the photos & video as well as consultations by licensed contractors about his poor quality work does show the burden of proof. We will be taking these with us as we go to court. We appreciate your & the Attorney General’s attempts to mediate the situation but it doesn’t appear as if Doneright Inc want to take ownership for their flaws & damages so it will need to be forced at this point.

Sincerely,
