Review: I received a coupon for Dong’s Karate advertising $10 for a week of karate and a uniform. The first day I went, I was pressured into signing a contract right then and there. There was no time to think about things, and the instructor said, “We’re just going to get you signed up today”. Fast forward several months. This is the most stressful time of my life. I’m going through a major custody battle with my children’s father and I have had to hire an attorney I can’t afford. I’m being forced to move because of my custody battle, and can no longer afford to pay the $179 I am being charged monthly. I have two year old twins and can’t make it to practice more than half the time. My custody battle could potentially go on for months, which means I will have to keep paying my attorney. I am a single mother of three, and I need to be able to provide for my children. I understand that I signed a contract under pressure, but there are exceptions to certain situations that come up in life. I did not plan on this happening to me and I would love to continue practicing karate, but unfortunately I cannot afford to. I’ve spoken with two people at Dong’s karate and was told the only thing they could do for me was give me a month’s break. Unfortunately, my life situation has changed and I will not be able to afford next month’s tuition, or the following month’s tuition and so on. On top of this, every time you test for a different color belt you have to pay an additional fee. It was $90 for my son and me to TEST for our yellow belts. I’ve read over my contract several times now, and there is nothing noted on the contract about having to pay more when you test for another color belt. This information was withheld from me at the time I signed the contract. Because of my special circumstances, I need to terminate my contract with Dong’s immediately. There are exceptions to every rule, and I have never dealt with such uncompassionate people in my life.Desired Settlement: Terminate contract immediately.
