Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint My husband is a police officer and I am a nurseWe are a hard working family who purchased a home that needed renovationWe invested all of our retirement and savings to make our dream possibleWe found this home Sept and heard about Doni on Sept 21, from someone who had seen his latest renovation We contacted him at this timeHe had just finished a multimillion dollar house in Mason, OHWe informed him we were not millionaires and could not afford that type of renovationWe had a budget of $200,to at the utmost $250,He came and looked at the home and acted like he could do everything we wanted in our budgetI asked about a contract, etc He said he didn’t do thatHe just makes verbal agreementsHe demanded a $10,deposit at that time saying he had to have it immediately to lock him in so he would not take another job at the same timeI told him I did not feel comfortable giving this size of a deposit when no work was to be done until after Nov (closure of house)He insisted that he had to have it immediatelyMy husband and I have never done any renovations on a house or been involved in this marketWe didn’t know what to doWe contacted the architect (recommended to us by Doni) and asked his opinionHe said yes that people can ask for deposits in this market So even though we felt uncomfortable we gave him separate $5,checks on Oct and This money was payment as a design fee/acting as a general contractor for a month renovation of our propertySoon after this I was attempting to secure the loan for the house and get a construction loan for the renovationThe bank required a credit check of the contractor to just ensure they were not bankrupt or did not have any liens against them Doni freaked out and said they could not check his credit that he had liens against himWell now my husband and I were beginning the worry we had chosen the wrong person to handle our renovationBut unfortunately we had already given him the $10,deposit and Doni would not give this back to usSo we continued with him and had to pull all our retirement out and take out credit cards to fund the projectWe were very stressed about this because we had never operated without an emergency fundI created a generic contract just to make sure we were somewhat covered if the job took longer than months or Doni didn’t pay his subcontractors and they attempted to take a lien out on the property(contract attached) During the next weeks I contacted Doni multiple times about finding out if he had arranged for excavation, demolition, framing, electrical, plumbing, etc During this time he would always say “everything will be fine, we have plenty of time”I also during this time tried to make Doni sit down with me and go over the budget to make sure we were going to be able to do what we had agreed on in the contract which did not happenTime came for the renovation to start on Nov and nothing had been arrangedWe had no material on site and no plans for excavation or concrete and it was getting coldThe only thing we had done was pick out a color for the outside of the houseHe wanted to start painting the outside of the house immediately and my husband put his foot downIt was degrees during the day and as low as at nightMy husband had painted as a previous job and knew these were not good conditions to pain inDoni did not agree and pleaded with him but my husband was insistent that they not paintNot only because of the weather but also because of the budgetIf there was anything my husband could have done himself it was paint so we wanted this left to last so we could make sure we had enough money to complete the jobUnfortunately we had a trip to Disney planned the next week which took us away for an entire weekWhile we were gone Doni painted the outside of the house When we returned we were upsetWe checked what the weather had been while we were gone and there was only one day that the temperature ever hit degrees and it still got below freezing at nightWe paid over $for labor for the week we were gone and the only evidence of work was the outside of the house was painted I admit I brought the budget up continuously with Doni because I was very concernedI am a numbers person and the numbers were not adding upI continued to voice my concerns to Doni and he continued to tell me everything would be fine without taking my concerns into considerationI asked him multiple times to sit down with me and review the numbers to help me figure out how it was ever going to workHe never made the timeAs far as adding more and more ideas to the job that increased time and money that was not done by meI was constantly trying to think of ways to decrease costsDoni was the one proposing ideas such as crackle on doors or venetian plaster, etc which would and did increase the budgetAs far as only being absent from the jobsite only day for court is inaccurate, but I don’t even care about this – my concern was I was paying his people an hourly wage and they were standing around because they didn’t have any idea what they were supposed to do that dayMy husband did not bully Doni or his employeesHe did go to the jobsite a lot because we were very concerned it was not being managed properlyAnd yes we did question Doni and his actions because we were paying a lot of money and nothing was being arranged and little progress was being madeMy husband had to arrange majority of the subcontractors himselfAll of the arrangements should have been made before the start date by Doni because he was acting as the general contractor for the projectMy husband became upset when on Tuesday Dec he came to the jobsite at 8:and Doni pulled up and his vehicle and person smelled of marijuanaMy husband asked him calmly why he smelled marijuana and Doni said “I smoke dope”This is completely unprofessional and unsafe and would not be tolerated on our jobsiteWe investigated his criminal background at this time and found evidence of alcohol/marijuana abuse and violence in his household and he was still currently involved in a domestic violence case against his childrenHe is currently on probation to which court records show he violated(supporting public record documents attached) Also relating to drug abuse on our jobsite, his daughter [redacted] and her boyfriend [redacted] , showed up under the influence of marijuana multiple times(supporting public record documents for [redacted] attached) Other workers on site expressed their concerns with [redacted] and [redacted] and how they were never helping or workingDue to these incidents we asked Doni to not have them return to the jobsite – Dec He refused and ignored our request bringing them back the next day - Dec We were at a loss of what to doBut after talking endlessly about the situation we decided Doni would not be employed by us anymoreWe could not have this caliber of person managing our renovationSo overall he worked for us for weeks and daysHe says he designed all this stuff for our house – that is completely – he and I picked out the color for the house, inside and out (not completed), he helped pick a look for our columns (did not complete them), picked out a stone to put on our porch (did not complete this either) and painted the interior doors (did not complete this)That is the entirety of what he designed for usHe may have had other ideas in his head but he never shard them with usWe have a complete house to renovate and paid him $10,to design it and that is all we receivedSo now it is up to us to spend the next and a half months trying to complete this renovation, which includes repainting the outside of the house because he painted multiple sites where demolition is to be doneSo not only do we have to finish the renovation we also have to fix the things he startedWe need the $10,returned to us to finish the design of the projectThe materials that Doni mentions we “took” were brought by him to our jobsite as leftovers from who knows where and told to us that we could try and use them if possibleWhen my husband told Doni that we did not want him to come back the next week he told him to gather all of his tools and supplies and exit the propertyHe was given ample time to gather anything that was hisI believe that Doni does nice finishing work and paints well (seen from his previous job)I believe that if I would have had an endless supply of money and was willing to allow unprofessional behavior at the jobsite my house would have looked beautifulHowever we cannot tolerate drug abuse or wasteful and careless behavior on our propertyEverything that I am stating is a fact and nothing we have said is a lieI am sorry if this hurts Doni’s feelings but fact is factWe understand normally he works for wealthy people and we as middle class clients are not his norm$10,may seem like nothing to him but to us it is an enormous amount of money and we just want to be treated fairly, wealthy or notWe have attempted multiple times to rectify the situation with DoniThe last attempt being Dec We asked him if he could at least give $back since he did not complete the job and he refusedI think we have done everything possible to resolve this situation Regards, [redacted]

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
The information provided is completely falseI paid the demo framing crew over $11,and they have cut all the floor joices in my bathroom which now I have to hire an engineer to repair, placed all the headers too low to pass inspection, and all the walls are bowing where they used poor quality woodThis "mexican" crew as Doni refers to them were hired by Doni and they were completely incompetent. I am done fightingIt makes me sad to hear someone bad mouth my family the way he is doing when the truth is so clearI realize now this a waste of time because Doni will never agree to pay us any of the money we are owedAt this point I just wish to warn anyone else that tries to use Doni of the choice they are making. The only reason I included the police reports were to prove that Doni was not telling the truth about himself or his workers. I am tired and just want my house finished at this pointDoni has made this extremely challenging now with our budgetEvery contractor that comes in to bid the job either refuses the job immediately because it is such a mess or can't believe the work that was doneThe contractors that have bid the job are coming up with figures so high we will be lucky to finish this house because they have to do so much "repair" work. I can provide pictures of the damage done to the house, receipts from the $11,that was paid, the bill and repair from engineer for floor joices and any other information that is needed.

My husband is a police officer and I am a nurse. We are a hard working family who purchased a home that needed renovation. We invested all of our retirement and savings to make our dream possible. We found this home Sept 12 and heard about Doni on Sept 21, from someone who had seen his latest renovation.  We contacted him at this time. We had a budget of $200,000 to at the utmost $250,000. He came and looked at the home and acted like he could do everything we wanted in our budget. I asked about a contract, etc… He said he didn’t do that. He just makes verbal agreements. He demanded a $10,000 deposit at that time saying he had to have it immediately to lock him in so he would not take another job at the same time. I told him I did not feel comfortable giving this size of a deposit when no work was to be done until after Nov 15 (closure of house). He insisted that he had to have it immediately. I have been in this business for over 30 years and no one has ever cursed me or my crew like this so called police officer Eric [redacted] . His verbal abuse and constant badgering of my crew was one of the reasons I packed up and left. He was suppossed to be apart of our team and did nothing but stop production, 1st example, he wanted stain for the wood floors upstiars, underneath even old baseboards. For someone with no budget that's insane. We had to dismantle all baseboards and wait for replacements, shutting down production. I have on camera us painting in 60 degree weather. The plumbing fixtures that they took from me were new in the box, Beverly Hills quality. [redacted] changed her mind daily on trim and room addition details. Again if time and money were an issue get out of the way and let it happen. As far as  Ample time to get my equipment out?? He' was standing over me every step I even said there are some important pieces of equipment in the out house and he said he would get them to me. They hired a demo and framing crew of Mexicans and did not pay them one penny for over $20K of work. These people are horrible people they threatened to call the INS on this framing company. That's the kind of people they are. I'm not perfect never said I was, but to put private info on this website is just the kind of thing I would expect from pigs like this. She has been harassing me with texts and still have not heard from any attorney to resolve this matter. I have designed an incredible house design and it will stand up in court. My mistake for believing in such creepy people. Shame on them for not paying the bills and invoices they owe. I am will seek restitution from this on going abuse. We did some nice work and would have made it look like a million dollar remodel, they were just too stupid to let it happen. They don't deserve any goodness what so ever!!!!! Doni

In reference to the [redacted] complaint, I charge an initial design fee for all of my creations, period. I get paid upfront for my intellectual properties. I have been in business for 30 years and work for wealthy clients. I personally took a chance on this couple and was going to give them a...

design home of a lifetime. I am NOT a general contractor, nor have I ever professed to be. If the home requires work outside of my abilities then I have subcontractors that I team up with on every job, like plumbing, electrical, concrete, framing, HVAC, demolition crews, etc. I charge 45/hr. per man per hour. I gave them an opportunity to work with me at a cut rate for $28/hr. What I pay my people and what I profit does not affect the client. But in actuality, 4 of the 7 made 25 an hour or more. These are all skilled workers and they stay busy. As far as the [redacted] account, I supply nothing. Everything that it takes to produce this job, client's must pay for it all. The extension cord she is referring to was purchased because their carriage house kept blowing fuses and I was burning up my compressor and needed a heavy gage cord to get work finished. I have documented and photographed all the work that I have done for these people. As far as being under the influence on their job site, that was never discussed nor true. As far as the exterior painting, they were concerned with the cold weather. But I never painted under 50 degree temperatures. Those are perfect conditions for exterior paint. Their budget was thrown in my face every day, and I was very aware of everything that was being done at every moment. The days she claims I missed because of criminal activity and court is false. I am not a criminal. I had one court appearance that needed to be made and was on the job site by 10:30 am that morning. Countless times that I was actually not on the job, I was still working for them, picking up materials. It is almost a full time job alone keeping materials needed to produce progress. The homeowners questioned every move I made and bullied all of my crew, policeman or not, you don't treat people like that. It was clear to me at the end of that week I would not be coming back to complete my dream for them. All I wanted for them was beauty. That's what I do. In my thirty years of business, no one has ever screamed or cursed at me like this man has, as well as my crew. I have always finished my projects with immense detail and craftsmanship and my clients are always satisfied. I have never been in a situation like this before. For any interior designer, it is more than normal and needed to require an initial design fee. I brought them incredible savings on materials. I brought them a gifted architect to draw up the nuts and bolts plans. All the while, I was coming up with colors, finishes, trim work, stone work, my own demo and preparation, preparing walls, constructing four columns for the front of their house, that are now actual structural. Their existing columns were rotten and non-functional. I spent countless hours searching for products. I was in contact with all my suppliers, met with countless sub-contractors to make this all possible. The list goes on... Which is why an up-front design fee is needed so that my time is not wasted and abused. I cannot put in all this time, work and thought for you to have second thoughts. My design fee is spoken of from the get-go so that if it isn't in my client's budget, then they can decline from the beginning. The lies being spread and the drama is uncalled for and hurtful. They took all of my materials: thousands of dollars of new plumbing fixtures, hardwood flooring, white carrera marble floor, my scaffolding, my airless paint sprayers, crown molding, and all of my time and the use of my crew. Why would I be required to return to them $10,000? The design fee therefore is given to me for circumstances like this in which my safety is ensured, and my time and products used were not wasted and taken advantage of. This couple clearly could not afford this project. Countless times after we had a plan, she added and added to the ideas--therefore increasing the  budget and time frame. If going to court to clear my name is necessary, I will be well represented and have documented everything that I have accomplished on this job. I look forward to being vindicated. -[redacted]

Hi [redacted]
Again a complete and utter false statement on [redacted]'s behalf, The framing that was done was from a crew that they hired I simply brought them some bids. As far as the framing done, the studs were nailed into the floor properly. One floor joice was cut but not all the way thru, I talk to the architect that I hired for the job and he told me these people are out of their minds. They have Beverly Hills taste, everybody does, . I work in Beverly Hills but that doesn't mean I can afford it !! They ran out of money and that's OK as well just don't blame me and trash my name. I have never once had anyone fire me or mistreat me or not pay me for a weeks pay. There is a lean on both of their homes now from the framer crew and there will be soon from me for non payment. I run a business not a charity. I gave them over ten thousand in materials as well as worked for them for two months. [redacted] I never got an email from you so I couldn't send you a detailed account of my work and photos there. This isn't over on my behalf I need to be paid for the 3rd week I had my crew working. The truth shall set you free. I stand on my word and ask for their attorney info and no response. I can stand up incourt and win.[redacted]
