Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:This is not what happened and I am offended that because I was unable at that exact moment to pay the $100 was not a reason to judge my financial situation. I had just spent over  $300 on dog supplies and I did not have the extra $40 because it was not that I didn't have it at all I just wouldn't have it until the following week and they said that they do not hold dogs...I was more than willing to pay the fee that Sunday when I came to the shelter but because I asked if it was still $60 the original price or was it $100 I was told I couldn't adopt and I had to wait for Mr. [redacted] to say yes or no...which he never called me back. At this point we have found another animal and had paid over a $100 for it. I feel so discriminated by the this company. I recently found out that I am not the only one who had had a similar run in with them but didn't want to report it. At this point I don't want anything to do with this company. They say they don't judge but as you can see they just did. Everyone who is a dog  owner has bills to pay including me but because I don't have an abundance of extra cash laying around doesn't mean I don't have a good home for an amima**..bottom line this was all about the money not the anima** Yes I have more than enough means to care for a dog or any other animal but this place wouldn't know because I was treated so unfair and unfriendly even after I said I would adopt the dog. They judged me the moment I couldn't meet their demands. I just moved here AND I did not know where this place was located or if I would make it back in time to pick up my kids from schoo**. it was POURING rain that day so no I would not drive over an hour in the rain to a place I didn't know and put myself in a situation where my children would not be picked up in time...especially when they had dogs being transferred to Killeen the same day. As I stated this was a situation that could have been resolved but instead I was just not rich enough for them. I am a fair person but they have no right to decline an application that was never submitted because of their personal feelings towards people like me. Regards,[redacted]

The customer has not adopted from Texas Humane Heroes and no financial transaction or donation has taken place. Texas Humane Heroes (TXHH) is a non-profit, private, 501(c)(3) organization that runs no kill adoption centers for homeless dogs and cats. Texas Humane Heroes is 100% funded by donations,...

grants, and modest fees for services. We do not receive any local or federal government funding. When Ms. [redacted] contacted TXHH for adoption she was seeking a discount on the standard adoption fee of $100. This request was escalated to the Executive Director, [redacted]. On the morning of 10/29/2015, Mr. [redacted] contacted Ms. [redacted] and offered her two options. One, visit the Leander Adoption Center where the dog was currently housed and be considered as an adoptable family for $60 adoption fee/donation and pending adoption application. Or, two, to have the dog transported to our Killeen Adoption Center but pay the full adoption fee of $100 to cover transport costs. The dog would be placed on a single day hold, as an exception to normal processes.Ms. [redacted] declined both options during that conversation; however, as a courtesy and an exception, Mr. [redacted] informed Ms. [redacted] that he would maintain the hold at the Leander Adoption Center until the end of the business day if she changed her mind. Ms. [redacted] did not change her mind. The hold was removed the following day and the dog was once again available for adoption. Over the next week, with different calls and visits, Ms. [redacted] tried to get the same adoption fee discount. Through multiple conversations, anecdotes, and excuses, Ms. [redacted] continually demonstrated a lack of financial ability to adopt the dog. Based on this, she was informed on 11/5/2015 that her adoption application (which as of that time still had not been submitted), would likely be declined due to financial inability to take care of the dog, per TXHH adoption policies. This is not a judgment on Ms. [redacted] or her family in terms of their ability to lovingly care for a dog. However, after repeated, multiple, and varied excuses about financial concerns related to the cost of the dog, cost of travel, and other cost concerns, TXHH is declining to adopt to Ms. [redacted].Almost 3,000 animals are adopted out each year by TXHH and our adoption fee/donation covers the cost of care & feeding, spay/neutering, micro-chipping, vaccinations, and 30 days pet health insurance. Adoption fees/donation levels are set to cover those costs and allow TXHH to continue its charitable mission to help homeless dogs and cats. In summary, the dog was never adopted to Ms. [redacted]. No financial transaction has taken place. And TXHH has decided to decline Ms. [redacted] an adoption based on financial concerns to be able to provide continued care for the dog.
