Don's Economy Stump Grinding

Don was unprofessional, unreliable and I would not recommend his service.

In September, [redacted] ground up an 18 foot area to remove a stump and its roots. That was nearly my entire small back yard. I have a detached garage and the land ground up was almost the entire area between my house and detached garage. In the process, Don ground up the electrical service that ran underground from the house to the garage. He called to inform me after he ground up the wire that he did not see the wire until the pieces of ground up wire were on top of the dirt piles. Any professional in the stump grinding business would have been able to identify that power was going to the garage and that it would be underground. He should have taken measures to not grind up the wire and or to discuss options with me prior to grinding up my service. When I tried to discuss the damage he created with him he was very irate and threatening. He did not stand by his work nor offer to assist with restoring the electric service to my gagage. This caused me to have to file a home owner claim as the cost to repair was approximately $2,500.

[redacted] explained his pricing model was based upon stump diameter and the number of stumps. They came and did a good job, priced it fairly. I did not expect the lowest fee due to the stump size and since there was only one stump, but it was cheaper than another quote from another service. I noted he got a complaint from someone that he cut his electrical line from the house to his garage. The code is for that line to have been buried 36 inches below grade, and if it had been to code there is no way [redacted] would have come close to cutting it. And give the [redacted] Econo a break, he can't be expected to be mind reader- sounds like the homeowner never told [redacted] upfront about the shallow buried cable.

Saw an add in one of those free newspapers they leave at businesses for stump removal. The ad say's "Most Stumps $10 - $30." Well when I call, [redacted] say's "well it's at least $30 just to drive to my house". So I ask about the $10 stump cost and he say's that if you have like over 25 stumps, some may be as low as $10. Who has 25 stumps????

I tell him my small stump is less than 10 inches and he quotes me $30....fine. After the job I get a bill for $35???
