My garage door's main torsion tube based spring failed and I needed to obtain a replacement. I contacted the manufacturer and original contractor that installed the door to schedule a repair, but the lead time for the service call was over a week. That said, the manufacturer/contractor very clearly quoted me a specific price for labor and parts involved so I knew what the costs would be. As an alternate, I contacted this company based on the numerous positive reviews and ratings being shown on this site. Boy, what a mistake!

Door Doctor West/Arizona's Garage Door took my initial call and confirmed they would be able to schedule a visit the next day. After mentioning that I located the company via Angie's list, the scheduler that I spoke with explicitly stated that the usual $65 service fee would be waived. There was no mention by this individual of a key dependency on actual repairs being made in order to enjoy that "discount" as a valued Angie's list subscriber. I went on to specifically ask about estimated costs tied to the replacement of the spring and for this provider's ability to service a garage door of my particular make and model. The representative was unclear and convoluted in their answer to the question, indicating that part costs varied depending on various factors. But that they could indeed service and support my particular door manufacturer. -Fair enough. But, having a quote already in hand from another the door manufacturer's dealer in hand I felt confident the costs would be in line (or at the very least I could negotiate to a reasonable price).

The technician showed up on time, took a 30 second look at the door without so much as taking a single measurement and concluded what I already knew - the spring was broken. At this point I was given the rundown of options and costs associated with replacement or repair. Both of these options carried with them out the door costs that were significantly more expensive than my other quotations. 60% higher for the non-manufacturer certified replacement option carrying with it an unknown lead time, and a whopping 78% higher for the "conversion" option that conveniently could be done on the spot without scheduling another call. These estimates were way out of line with the other quotation, and I declined them both on the grounds of cost. Furthermore, it was clear based on the description of the two options that neither one was actually truly compatible with my door manufacturer make and model -a realization that negated the phone representative’s assurance.

At this stage the technician explained that his visit was indeed going to cost $65 and that I would have to pay it just for the privilege of him spending a total of perhaps 10-15 minutes total at my home to tell me what I already knew and to insult me with an inflated cost estimate. I called the home office and spoke with the representative I spoke with the day before to clear matters up relative to the service call charge and his explicit mention of the fee being waived for Angie’s list subscribers and I received no empathy or compensatory response apologizing for the misunderstanding. I reluctantly paid the technician to send him on his way, but the value of the "service" provided, just like the cost estimates for the repair work, was way out of line with the actual price.

This company ended up wasting my time and money which is a lot more than this company spent in overhead trying to bait and switch a prospective customer. In summary, I can conclude that any potential customer looking to hire this company for a similar, common repair job should note the potential for, if not expect an overall dissatisfying experience.

My garage door opener ripped itself off the garage door. David B[redacted], az door doctors, came out and was able to repair the door. He showed me why it happened and finished the work quickly. David was very nice and helpful. I usually like to fix things myself but sometimes I don't have the expertise. I always choose repairmen or contractors who are willing to educate me. I like to ask tins of questions so I can do repairs myself next time. David was great and I'll call him again if I have any problems. He was very knowledgeable.

Of course, it is never convenient to have a garage door stop working. David was at our house within two hours of the call. He was professional and honest. After assessing the condition of our garage door he recommended new cables and rollers. He also let us know that the rest of our garage was in good working order, and should be for a long time. He offered to, and did, explain the maintenance needed for our garage door and how often to do so. He was excellent at explaining how the components of the garage door work and what the best lubricants are for the door and why.

I would highly recommend Arizona's Garage Door Doctor based on our experience with David.

Technician arrived on time. Explained the repair options and prices. Had necessary repair parts on his truck. Very good experience.

The spring on our garage door broke during the night so we could not raise the door to go to work. We called for help and within a couple of hours David was at our home and in less than an hour David replaced the springs, bearings, serviced our door and was ready to leave.

Outstanding service! David was the consummate professional, prompt, courteous and neat. I was impressed that he was kind enough to take the time to explain the functions of the garage door and how best to maintain it to avoid costly repairs down the line.

Called at 10 am; technician arrived at 11 am. Took advantage of a special they were running. Service tech. Armand W[redacted] was professional, courteous, friendly and most importantly not pushy. We will use Door Doctor again and hopefully Armand will be our service tech!

Less than 2 years ago we broke 1 of our springs on the garage door. Door Doctor came out & sold me both springs to ensure proper strength for my insulated steel door but never checked the weight ratio properly. (July 24 2013) the spindle gear on my [redacted] chain door opener snapped. I had to buy a new $317 opener from [redacted] and they said the warranty was void because the springs were improperly matched a 236 & 218 was not enough for the heavy a load. [redacted] wanted additional money to install a pair of 236 springs to match the door (jerks). I called Door Doctor and they came out and explained to me the springs were workable and cranked a little more tension on both springs to balance the door’s weight (at no charge, thank you). I lost my new [redacted] warranty because the Door Doctor spring installer did not properly tension the springs for the weight of the door in the first place.

The technician, Armand, was polite, efficient, and solved our problem with the garage door. He also gave me information about a new product I asked him about.

Steve B[redacted] was the most courteous, efficient, proficient and neatest repair person I have had dealings with in any state. The installation was performed in short order and I could not be more pleased with the results.
