We were referred to this business by someone from a competitor company. The technician was thorough and stated he was only going to bill us for the 1 hour ($85) he was here. Upon receiving the bill, we were surprised to see a $127.50 bill. We called Doug Palmer Electric, and were informed by "Julie" that the tech had put down 1.5 hours for job completion, that they bill $85 per hour, and they ALWAYS charge for travel time. When we told "Julie" that we were never informed about the travel time, or we would have simply called someone locally to us in Cottage Grove, rather than have them come down from Eugene, "Julie's" response was, "You never asked." How are WE supposed to know they charge for travel time unless they TELL us?? We remembered after the call, we asked them NOT to send the electrician after 5pm as we could not afford any overtime. This company has thoroughly ripped us off now, and we will NEVER use their service again. In addition, we will tell EVERYONE we know NOT to use this company, as they do not advise you correctly regarding their shady billing practices. Evidently (--according to Doug Palmer's employees), it is the consumer's responsibility to KNOW when THEIR billing starts.
We have advised "Julie" that we will go ahead and pay their (incorrect) $127.50 bill, but will NEVER use their company for ANYTHING again. Just another case of "Buyer Beware."
In response to the above complaint by Ms.. It is our company’s policy to advise customers when they call in and ask our hourly rate to advise that the first hour’s charge will include one way travel time. Thereafter, we charge in 15 minute increments. We have many on-going customers who make appointments who are aware of the standard practices of the industry so it is unnecessary to repeat these standards. Although Julie nor myself cannot recall our exact conversation with Ms. the date she called, I find it hard to believe if she asked what we charged an hour that we did not include travel fees. Further, our electrician was asked when he arrived what we charge and his response was “$85.00 an hour”, not that our bill would be $85.00 for this service call.Per our GPS check, our electrician was on-site for 1.5 hours. Our one-way drive time there was 40 minutes (approx. 23 miles) and we charged 1.5 hours for the service call. Regarding overtime, we did not send out an electrician after 5:00. We are sorry that Ms. feels she was taken advantage of, but we feel our bill was very fair.
Correction – Per our GPS, we were there 1 hour 5 minutes.
