In regards to complaint #[redacted] dated August 29,2014 regarding Mr. [redacted] of Placerville, California.
I, [redacted], the owner of Dough Veerkamp General Engineering, Inc. personally went to [redacted] residence at [redacted] on Tuesday September 2, 2014 at...

approximately 10:30 a.m. to discuss the problem of a broken plastic water line.
Summary of Circumstances: On or about July 1, 2014 [redacted] called our office to request a backhoe come to his residence to dig a hole so he could bury a horse that he thought was dying. My son [redacted] handled the request, however we did not have a backhoe available in the Placerville area to help him at a reasonable price, as normally for this kind of service we would have a minimum charge of 4 hours plus a move in of the backhoe by truck to his site, which would have cost a minimum of $550.00+. My son [redacted] just wanted to help out this elderly gentleman and save him some money. [redacted] call my brother that lives within a mile or so of [redacted]s and dig the hole for the horse for the sum of $100.00- which we lost money on due to hard ground conditions for digging.
The only way in and out of the area where [redacted] wanted the hole dug was to drive the backhoe in and out of his paved residential driveway. We were not informed by [redacted] that he had a plastic PVC water line approximately one foot deep and paved over with asphalt that we would need to cross. However, since this was done around July 1st or so, the ground should have been extremely solid and hard, let alone paved with approximately 2 1/2"+ thick of asphaltic concrete, and should have easily supported a rubber tire [redacted] 580 Backhoe weighing approximately 7 to 8 tons.
So, approximately 14 days later, according to [redacted], he discovered his water line to be leaking. He contacted a company to come out and repair it for approximately $900.00 and [redacted] was hoping we would reimburse him for the broken water line that cannot be proven we broke when it started leaking 14 days later.
As I stated, on September 2nd after approximately 30+ minutes of visiting with [redacted] and a very congenial conversation with him, I believe we both concluded that possibly the backhoe may not have broken the buried water line by driving over it, but who knows for sure? I told [redacted] I wanted to help him on the financial part and I refunded to him on the spot the $100.00 he paid us and he reluctantly accepted it and also felt bad for the situtation.
We shook hands and promised to stay in touch on a friendship basis.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Review: I am the daughter of [redacted]. I am trying to give you this information the best I can from my dad relaying the information. My dad is 81 years old, having some health issues and very slow these days. He had [redacted]'s company license [redacted] come out to dig a hole for him as he has a horse that was dying. He had this company come out to dig the hole. 14 days later my dad noticed there was a water main leak. My dad is in the house most of the time now and that is why he didn't notice the water main break until 14 days later. I guess when they had their tractor on the pavement, the weight of the tractor must have broke a water main. my dad called someone to fix the water main break, but [redacted]'s company is refusing to cover the repair for the water main break. I have talked with [redacted] in the office. He was not helpful or understanding of an elderly person trying to just be reimbursed from something that happened after their company did work on his property. At first my dad said he noticed the break 2 days later, then he told me he didn't notice the break until 14 days after. Is there anything you can do to have this company cover damage done by the weight of their tractor that broke a water main. Thank You, [redacted]Desired Settlement: [redacted] would like [redacted]'s Engineering license [redacted] to pay for repairs to the water main. They refuse, this is why [redacted] is trying to contact you. ( [redacted] is elderly and slow to understand, easy for this company to just refuse to compensate him, Please help [redacted]. Thank You
