To clarify,
We did recieve the island, companion , backsplash and 1 vanity top. But the remaining vanity top was too short, also the "L" shape counter top for kitchen was wrong. We have chosen to discountiue our talks with Douglas Counter Tops.
Regards,
[redacted]

Mr. and Mrs. [redacted] had contacted me for kitchen and bath counter tops. I had worked for more than one family member, and everything went quite well. From the very beginning, I had given them a better rate for my tops because of my admiration of the family. Mr. [redacted] had immediately stated he did not...

want to pay the $100 installation fee to install the kitchen and bathroom tops. They have received an island countertop, a small companion countertop with backsplashes, as well as two vanity countertops. All of the countertops were made correctly, and they kept them for Mr. [redacted] to install. The L-shape countertop for their kitchen did not fit correctly. I did let them know it was my error and I would fix it.Mrs. [redacted] said I left the house and called an hour later stating I would not fix the problem. This is only half true. It was actually close to a week later when I had gone back with materials to make a template for the replacement L-shape countertop. I even arrived early to our scheduled appointment. When I arrived, it was clear that Mrs. [redacted]'s attitude was much different than it had been before. She was clearly rude, condescending, and very untrusting of my abilities to fix the problem. She made me very uneasy to be in their home. When I left the premises, I called her husband, Mr. [redacted], and explained to him how uncomfortable I was to work with them any longer. I requested to remove myself from the project.I had purchased over $530 in materials to fabricate the countertops. He had given me a $500 material deposit with a balance of $405 due on completion of the job. The island countertop, companion top, backsplashes, and two vanity countertops had come out to a total of $507. I told Mr. [redacted] I was not concerned with the $7, we could call it even. They have kept the countertops that they paid for. He did not disagree. They have never requested a refund until now.As far as the vanity countertops being the incorrect size, that is not true. The countertops were made bigger than the cabinet size to allow them to be adjusted to the walls. The walls were a little out of square, and there is no countertop company that will tell you that they never have to adjust a countertop to form to an out-of-square wall. This is part of the installation. Again, Mr. [redacted] said he wanted to install the countertops. When I spoke to Mr. [redacted] about the vanity tops, he mentioned to me that Mrs. [redacted] did not understand anything about installing countertops, and that it was not an issue for him. I never received the balance of $405 the project, which is what the remaining countertop was going to cost. They did receive the countertops that they paid for. Once again, a refund for the countertops that they received, was never a topic ever discussed until now. I have gone 24 years without a single Revdex.com complaint, always willing to work with people to correct any problems. I have gone back after ten years to a job to re-caulk countertops because I feel it's the right thing to do, in an industry that typically has a 1-year warranty. However, I do not feel that I am alone when I say I am not a door mat. I went there with the intentions to correct the problem and was treated less than human, and I'm not tolerating that. If they had paid for the entire job of $905, I would have refunded the difference immediately. If they would have requested the $500 back when I showed up with the countertops, I would have given it to them. Instead, they kept the countertops! When I went back to fix the problem, the island top was already installed with the sink in it! Now, Mrs. [redacted] says she never received the countertops! As dishonest as this situation is, Mr. & Mrs. [redacted], if you did not install the countertops I delivered to you or alter them in any way, bring them back to me and get your $500 back!Thank you,Douglas S[redacted]Douglas Countertops

Mr. & Mrs. Keith SmithP.O. Box 625Laurelville, OH 43135RE: Revdex.com complaint ID 11178537Dear Mr. & Mrs. Smith,I am writing in to your Revdex.com complaint in which Mrs. Tammy Smith stated,"We are left with no counter tops in the kitchen and 2 counter tops in baths that are incorrect size andfit."  This statement is dishonest. Mr. Keith Smith acknowledged that he installed the island top andcompanion top in the kitchen.  He also acknowledged that he installed one of the Vanity tops that I hadmade. The only issue I knew of with one of the vanity tops that you received is that it did not fitcorrectly because the walls are out of square- I explained that this is a common issue and could becorrected by custom fitting it to the walls. Keith did mt want to pay the installation fee. Mrs. TammySmith also stated, "...he would not refund our money..." This is another dishonest statement. Arequest far a refund was never mentioned. The only countertop you did not receive was the L-shape countertop that I made incorrectly, which weboth know that you were never charged the $405 for the L-shape out of the $905 total cost of the job.Keith explained to me on Thursday, March 3, 2016, that he had to make one of the vanity tops. Healso made a statement that he was not sure that he got enough countertop for the $500 he paid. I askedhim to give me a number that he thought the countertops were worth, and I would refund thedifference of what he felt was fair. He could not give me an answer. I then insisted that the issueneeded to be resolved. He said if I refunded the $40 for the vanity top he remade, that would makeeverything okay. We scheduled to meet on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 11a.m. so I could pay him the$40.On Friday, March 4, 2016, around 11a.m., Keith called and informed me that he decided $40 was notenough, and that he now wanted $250 to reimburse his tool purchase. I once again extended the $40for the countertop he remade, and he refused. In my Revdex.com response, I made it clear that if you return the countertops in their original condition(uninstalled and uncut), which should have been done immediately if the tops were not correct, I amhappy to  refund the full $500 immediately. This offer stands. As far as being reimbursed for tools you purchased, I certainly do not want to bring any financialhardship to your family in any way.
