Doug's Laptop Reviews (7)

We contracted with Mr. [redacted] to install a new hard drive, and to reprogram his computer.   The consumer is confused.   Data Transfer and Data Recovery are two seperate technical actions.  One does not require the other.   We did a complementary data transfer from his old hard drive which is a  standard practice with all of our customers.  It was complete per his instructions and his agreement.
Data Recovery was not contracted for, and he was not charged by this company for the same.
Just because he states that he was charged by another company for data recovery does not make Doug's Laptop Shop, LLC responsible in any manner.  Mr [redacted] was given his old hard drive with all of his data in place.  What he did with that hard drive after it left our office is by his authorization.  We were not aware that he was taking this to a professional data recovery service.   Mr. [redacted] refuses to give us the name and credentials of the company that performed this service, and cannot establish a chain of custody for the hard drive.
I am sorry that this will be in unresolved complaint.   We performed our written agreement in full.

Mr. [redacted] agreed that the data set we retrieved was the correct one.  Later he took it to an unauthorized dealer who retrieved a different set of data.  As outlined in our letter, he would not give me the name of the company or the credentials of the perosn who retrieved the...

data.
There will be no refund for this customer.  We did provide him with a $50.00 gift certificate.
[redacted]

While I was out of town my husband took a laptop that wasn't holding a charge into Dougs without consulting me. My laptop was dismantled by an "employee" when I brought it in for a "free diagnosis" without my knowledge. I got an apology and was told the employee had been fired. I was offered a refurbished [redacted] for $400 which I bought b/c I was desperate. I got it home and it didn't work. I brought it in to a reputable shop in town and was shown all the defects (missing and broken ports etc.) I returned it and was given a [redacted] in exchange. I got that home and when I turned it on I found the hard drive was fried. I contacted [redacted] and [redacted] agreed to refund my money when the laptop was returned. My daughter and her friend returned it and [redacted] now claims it wasn't returned and that I was never given a [redacted]! Thankfully I recorded [redacted] telling me about the "employee mistake" with my sony, I brought the [redacted] and [redacted] to another computer company in town familiar with [redacted] that will vouch to seeing both of them, and the return of the [redacted] to Dougs was videoed. I am forced to take them to small claims court. I don't know if [redacted] is involved in these scams or it is just his employee scamming people.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
