Dover's Tree Care and Property Enhancements Reviews (5)

I spoke with the business, he said that there is just 2 yards of gravel that need to be done and 50 blocks left to finish to finish the retaining wall. He is willing to finish this job Sunday as well as add the top soil for the customer. She does not have to pay for the remaining $900.00 until...

the job is done, but once it is she will need to finish paying for the job that is done.

Review: Dover's Tree Care has not completed the work specified in the contract, and the landscaping work they have done is substandard. I hired them to build a retaining wall with landscaping stones. It is not level, nor is it done in a professional manner. They dug a trench and dropped landscaping stones in it, not bothering to level the trench or level the brick. Unbelievably, the first two courses of landscaping stones are stacked one on top of the other like pillars, rather than each course staggered. The "finished" project looks like something an 8 year old could do. It's easy enough to look on [redacted] to see how a professional installation is done with sand for leveling and gravel for backfill and drainage. Neither sand nor gravel was used. They've done about 1/2 of the bush trimming stipulated in the contract. A huge pile of brush and tree limbs (6ft tall, 15 ft wide) remained on my front lawn for over a week. They kept promising they were coming the next day to haul it away, but the eyesore was there for over a week. In addition, they were hired to pull ivy where the retaining walls are to be located. They did not pull the ivy; they covered it over with fill dirt. After a few days of inactivity because they didn't show up to finish the job, Ivy began to poke though the dirt. When I pulled on the ivy sprig, I uncovered twisted masses of vines and leaves. Beyond that, their word is worthless, as they promised time and again to come the next day, and they did not show. I haven't seen them or heard from them since I pointed out the problem with the ivy and asked them to fix it. They are UNTRUSTWORTHY. I can tell other shocking stories of how they have behaved deceptively, but as there is limited space here and it isn't directly related to the contract, I won't go into it. The items remaining in the contract to be done are: 1) finish trimming shrubs, including apple bush 2) finish clearing ivy in designated spots 3) spray/ feed 4) Rebuild old path with crushed rock cover 4) 6-8 inches of top soil to be spread in the 2 terraces behind the retaining walls.Desired Settlement: I have paid them $5,400, but have received about $3,000 worth of work. Therefore, I am asking for $2,400 to be refunded. They are in breach of contract and I expect a refund for the work undone.

Response:

I have reviewed the offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID[redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Portions of the retaining wall they've already

installed are not done correctly (i.e. in a professional manner, leveled and

installed on top of sand, which has been leveled and tamped down). For this

complaint to be resolved via completing the contract, I require that the

retaining walls be installed level, and each new course of brick should be

staggered above the course below, as well as the ends being finished in a

professional manner (i.e. bricks halved to meet flush with the house). That

would mean that what they've already done would need to be completely redone.

In addition, there are shrubs specifically mentioned in the contract that have

not been trimmed, ivy in "designated spots" that hasn't been

adequately removed (ivy has been buried under dirt - or not even removed), and

a general "spray and feed" that hasn't' been done. All this is in

addition to the crushed rock path and top soil and bricks the company has cited

in their response. In short, their "resolution" falls very far short,

if completing the contract is how they hope to resolve this dispute.

This total project was meant to come to $6,300. I

have paid them $5,400, presumably covering the removal of 2 trees, trimming a

maple in front and one in the back, and building a grey stone 2 tier retaining

wall. Since the retaining wall needs to be completely redone, I am asking for

$2,500 in refund.

Frankly, this business has so often promised to

show up and then failed to do so, that I just don't trust a word they say.

Their word is untrustworthy, as evidenced by the number of texts that I

received stating that they were "absolutely" or "100%"

showing up tomorrow, and yet when tomorrow came they were a no show. They have

not proven themselves capable of completing a job in a professional, tidy or

timely manner. They allowed piles of brush to stand on my front lawn for nearly

a week, embarrassing me and irritating my neighbors. They have NO credibility.

Furthermore, they behaved in such a deceptive manner to my neighbor

(unfortunately, also a customer of theirs) that I really do not want them on my

property. They showed me a copy of their business license to gain my trust, but

I cannot find any record of their business license on any Virginia state

website, giving me a strong suspicion that they are operating without a

license. In short, all of my good will and courtesy has been used up. I require

refund to settle this dispute.

Regards,

Review: The day they came, which was April 29, 2014 and tell about the services they would do for the payment we agreed, they say ([redacted] Smith, the person I spoke to and gave the payment), they will finish they would do the job that day. We agreed to the price of 1,100, for what he told me he would do to our backyard and wrote them in the contract. But after starting on cutting some vines and branches, [redacted] came to me and said he will have to get the full payment because he has to pay his men and would come back the next day. Thinking and trusting that they would come back, I gave a check with the amount of 1,100, for the services agreed on the contract. The next day came and they did not show up. I called and called and called ,and the number he gave could not be reached anymore. I called and called, and finally he said that they will come back the day after, which is the third day. I called and I called and then said they will just be late that day of May 1, 2014 of the afternoon. Then they cut some vines and branches again, and just left. I just found out they are not in the front anymore. I called and [redacted]s told me that they are just going to dump the trash. I waited and waited and they never came back to finish the job. they left dead branches on the gound and vines hanging and did not clear the tree reaching our house. I called and called and [redacted] and [redacted] said they will come back to finish the job as ,other than mentioned, they also did not spray/fed trees, and put down snake pelllets,as stipulated also in the contract. [redacted] also said he would give me receipt of my payment but he never did. They never came back till this day to finish everything in the contract/agreed.Desired Settlement: The contract says, " Dover's Tree Care & Property enhancements reserves the right to withdraw proposal/contract at any time without prior notice at no cost to customer". If this is clearly stated in their contract and they just left without telling us whatsover, then we deserve to get our money back.

Regards,

Review: I contracted with this company to provide tree/lawn care at my home on Sept. 2, 2013. Part of the services were completed. I paid, by check, in full for the services. As of today, 10/2/2013, the contract has not been fulfilled.Desired Settlement: I am asking for $300.00 to complete the job that this company did not do, enough money to rent a stump grinder to complete the job this company was contracted to do.

Business

Response:

the company called today to say that their phone was not working/lost and a new number to use is [redacted]. the business says that they are willing to come out and gride the stump witht their stump grider but they will have to take the fence a part to get in, but are willing to do this at the best time that works for both the customer and the business.
