Dr. Floyd's Garage, LLC Reviews (1)

I have attached the invoice for the work done for [redacted]. as you can see we did complete all the work requested and then some.We were charged with getting this truck running after it had been sitting for "more that a year"."Un-Mothballing it".standard procedures were...

followed for this type of service as outlined in the attached repair order. We were told the truck had been parked for longer than a year and it has a new engine with low miles on it. Mrs. Cartier-Copeland also expressed dislike for the Edelbrock carburetor on the engine, she did not elaborate when asked what she didn't like about it, just that they should have kept the factory Rochester Q-Jet carburetor on it.  as a note the truck was not stored properly - just parked, reason unknown. The work done on the truck are normal maintenance items that needed to be done as age and/or mileage had taken their toll. The end diagnosis to the engine not running correctly is at the least the exhaust valve guide on number one cylinder is worn enough that the valve randomly sticks resulting in exhaust gasses coming back into the cylinder causing a backfire through the intake manifold. this is a mechanical condition that had to have been there before. valve guides do not "just" wear out, either it was not rebuilt correctly or the engine has many miles on it.[redacted] real complaint is that she has spent $1346.13 on her truck and it is still not running correctly. I fail to see how I can be held responsible for an existing mechanical condition that is random and only presents itself when the engine is driven for a while. we were told it is a new engine with very low miles on it.As for the mileage I have been told 500 to 600 by [redacted] and 2000 by [redacted] and the Revdex.com complaint states less than 1000. both state the truck ran fine when they parked it, but as I said, valve guides just don't wear out. At this point the mileage on the engine is a moot point, the valve guide is bad. I only bring it up to point out the discrepancies in the story. The engine is dirty and grimy from many miles of use.As for the gas not being drained - Ethanol laced gasoline does not varnish like it's predecessor did due to the ethanol. it will absorb moisture resulting is a white flaky residue after it evaporates. we determined the gas to be satisfactory. As for the comment about the fuel filter, I would not have said that as there is a new one on the truck. As for the comment about the truck "running worse", what was said is that it runs the same due to a bad valve guide. I never said it would not idle as that has never been an issue. As for the comment about "would the truck run at all". the question was can I drive the truck. my answer was I would not recommend it due to the backfire issue. In my professional opinion this truck had this issue when it was parked. I come to that conclusion based on my 35+ years of experience as an ASE Certified Master Technician. with never a complaint of dishonesty. valve guides just don't wear out in moments, there is nothing I could have done to cause or prevent the worn part and the comment about the Edelbrock carburetor now raises questions about the backfire being there before.
