His dental business conduct is rather unethical in its billing and payment methods. I even challenged him on this very thing. He demands that you sign these dental treatment plans (without knowing what the insurance will pay exactly and wants all the payment upfront and never mentions the potential for overpayment and reimbursement) that are higher than what the dental insurance will pay even if its at 100% payment. Per my insurance company, He knows he is suppose to write it off and he does not want to. I paid him $98 out of pocket on 1/28/14, and when I spoke with me insurance company on 3/5/14 they stated that I did not owe him anything for that visit. They paid him the full payment at 100%. The second visit, I paid approx. $207. Again the dental insurance stated that he agreed to accept $187. So yet another overpayment. I simply want my $118 back from Dr.[redacted]'s practice. And we can call it even. Very disappointed with his business practices. He and I actually disagreed for almost 10 mins. about why I needed to sign this treatment plan stating that I agreed to pay this amount without the final payment coming in from the dental insurance. He stated " You know how people are, when it comes to payments" I believe he does this on purpose and hopes his unassuming patients will not notice and speak out against what he is doing. He even went so far to say to me ... " You don't have a mastercard or a visa you can you use to pay for this ... I have responsibilities." I explained to him, I pay my debts and wasn't looking to take advantage of his practice. I stated I was a recent grad and on a budget and needed to know in advance. He seemed very annoyed that I wanted to know what my out of pocket expenses I would incur BEFORE the actual treatment/services. And then he brought out this treatment plan stating you signed it so you agreed do this and pay this to it. Furthermore, he was annoyed that I did not want him to work on a particular tooth (it was not giving me any discomfort and it was the more expensive procedure). I explained to him I was in pain and needed to switch gears, and work done to a tooth that was causing discomfort. He did not like that one bit (He wanted to work on the lower bottom tooth per his original plan). My biggest issue or concern is that I was unaware that he agreed with my dental ins. company to accept a certain payment and the rest is a wash for the dentist. It is extremely unfair that he treats his patients this way. I felt very taken advantage of and without options as a paying customer of Dr. [redacted]'s practice. He was a new dentist for me and I really wanted to make his practice my long-term dental home. But I can't trust his billing practices ...
