Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/11/16) */
I am writing a letter in response to [redacted]'s complaint. [redacted] doesn't believe he owes the remaining balance on his dental work. He and I received (EOB's) Explanation of Benefits from his Dental Insurance Company in 2015. I can send of...

copy if requested. It explains that his Dental Insurance would not pay the claim because he had the work originally completed within 7 years ago. I had to redo it in January of 2015 because decay was present. [redacted] should have told us that the original work was done several years ago. We would have included the additional amount in his financial arrangements.
He stated that the money was determined up front and I agree with that. However it was an agreed amount that included his insurance paying their half of the claim. They did not. That is why we sent a statement to Mr. [redacted] for [redacted] He understood that when he signed the treatment plan. It is written on the treatment, which Mr. [redacted] signed, that this is only an estimate. We can send a copy if required.
My office manager sent [redacted] a statement and even talked with him on the phone, but he refused to pay. My office did nothing wrong. [redacted]'s insurance didn't pay for his treatment and he thinks that is our fault. The law states he is responsible for paying for the treatment.
We would have sent a statement to [redacted] earlier in the year, but his dental insurance took several months to process the claim. We have no problem with working out financial arrangements with [redacted] for the $591.20 balance. Please remove any complaints about our office on your website?

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2015/11/13) */
I am writing a response to Mr. [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] believes he should not have to pay for a procedure his dental insurance did not reimburse me for. He believes he did not have the conditions to warrant a 0180 Comprehensive Periodontal...

Evaluation. How does he know that? Why would you even come to me as a patient if he had already diagnosed himself?
Let's say hypothetically, Mr. [redacted] came to my office and he did have undiagnosed periodontal disease, but I didn't perform the evaluation because he didn't think it was necessary and his dental insurance didn't want to pay for it. If Mr. [redacted] was to lose teeth in the future due to untreated periodontal disease would he hold me responsible or his dental insurance company?
My job is to what's best for the patient. Didn't Mr. [redacted] expect that from me or does he feel his dental insurance will do what's best for him? In the end if anything goes wrong with a patient I am held responsible. I am always going to do what's best for the patient whether or not the insurance company agrees. It's Mr. [redacted]'s dental insurance policy, he chose it. The policy he chose did not cover this procedure. I filed his insurance as a courtesy to him. I am not legally obligated to do that. I will not bill Mr. [redacted] for the $95. I will send him a statement for the $25 co-pay. Will Mr. [redacted] consider removing the bad review I believe he gave me on Yelp.com
Sincerely,
[redacted] DDS
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 10, 2015/11/19) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
When a provider falls under the preferred provider umbrella of Blue Cross and Blue Shield, there are rates to which the doctor and the insurance company have previously agreed upon. Having queried my insurance provider before seeking service, I know that Dr. Isaacson was a preferred provider. This dentist office has accepted my insurance.
Bottom line - in the realm of elective procedures, if you are going to bill for a procedure that isn't covered by insurance, regardless of whether you believe it to be necessary, you need to convey that information to the patient.
A point worth mentioning - this office has billed my insurance incorrectly on three separate occasions. The first two incorrect billings were subsequently dropped when the dentist's billing department acknowledged there was a mistake and dropped the charges. Watching this office dig their heals in on billing practices that were previously acknowledged as mistakes during my departure as a patient is painful.
As I stated upon receiving my initial inaccurate invoice, I will pay for the services agreed upon. As this office is a preferred provider, the amount for twice yearly cleanings has already been negotiated by the provider and insurance company and is $25.
As Dr. Isaacson has recently stated he will bill me $25, I tentatively accept his Revdex.com response to my complaint.
