Dr. Lesley Sanders Reviews (%countItem)

I couldn't be more disappointed by my experience with this office. It took nearly six weeks to even connect with the scheduling staff, as they called back from at least three different phone numbers, sometimes pass-through Google Voice recordings.

Even with these unusual shenanigans, I persevered and was finally able to connect with a staff member.

I was able to schedule an evaluation for my teenage son (as requested by his school). I very clearly explained our situation, including our need for it to be covered by insurance, and was given an appointment time in January. Two days later, I was contacted by the office and told that Dr. Sanders was no longer available to see my son. I asked if another staff member was available, was told yes, but that no other staff members accepted our insurance (only Dr. Sanders). I asked if we could simply postpone until February or March. The gentleman told me that was definitely do-able, and he would have Dr. Sanders personally call me to discuss.

Ten minutes later, the same scheduling staff member (NOT DR. SANDERS) called back to tell me she would not be available for (I believe he said 12 months) but we could "try our luck" with another staff member, submit the bill to our insurance and "hope for reimbursement." I reminded the gentleman about our initial discussion about the need fo rit to be covered under insurance, and he became very patronizing.

I honestly am not sure if we are being discriminated against due to financial issues (I understand that some Drs do not get full payment from insurance companies) or just flat-out ineptitude on behalf of the office staff.

Dr. Lesley Sanders Response • Feb 13, 2020

Dear ***:

As we discussed yesterday, I represent Dr. Lesley Sanders, a psychologist who is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland.

Please be advised of the following: 1. the "Customer's Statement of the Problem" is predicated on several false premises; and 2. it is, in various respects, false and defamatory.

False Premises One false premise is that Dr. Sanders or anyone else on her staff had had an ethical or contractual obligation to see ***'s son. No patient-provider relationship was ever established between ***'s son and Dr. Sanders or any of her colleagues. Therefore, there is no legitimate basis for *** to complain that his son was not seen.

Another false premise is that *** and his son could be "discriminated against due to financial issues." Neither Dr. Sanders nor any colleague of hers is obligated to accept as a patient a person who does not have insurance which would pay the fees associated with the professional service. There are others, but I will not belabor the point.

False Information *** characterizes as "unusual shenanigans" the good faith efforts of Dr. Sanders's staff to accommodate his request for an appointment for his son.

"Shenanigan" is defined as "a devious trick used esp[ecially] for an underhand purpose." Merriam-***'s Collegiate Dictionary (10th ed.) at p. 1080. There is simply no basis for *** to accuse Dr. Sanders or her staff of dishonesty and, therefore, his allegations are defamatory per se.

*** also suggests that Dr. Sanders could not be unavailable for twelve (12) months, indicating that he finds "it suspicious that ANY doctor is booked 12 months in advance." In fact, it is not unusual for physicians and mental health professionals to be so booked -- particularly ones, such as Dr. Sanders, who are highly regarded in the community and whom various public agencies (including school systems) retain for evaluation and treatment of their beneficiaries.

There are other falsehoods, but, again, I do not wish to belabor the point.

Resolution *** indicates that he "would very much like a realistic explanation of why we were not able to have Dr. Sanders see our son" and that his "[d]esired [s]ettlement" is "contact by the business." I have just provided such an explanation.

I do not understand what is meant by "contact by the business" or what purpose would be served by such contact. the goal is to have Dr. Sanders see ***'s son, it is unfortunate, but true, that *** has defamed Dr. Sanders, and, I think, placed her in a position in which she cannot ethically accept his son as a patient. If the goal is something else, please ask *** to identify it.

In any event, assuming for sake of argument that ***'s description of what Dr. Sanders's staff said to him is accurate (and it is not), it merely suggests that there was some measure of inefficiency in the "front office" - and no more.

Conclusion Please remove from your website any reference to ***'s complaint.

Very truly yours
