I was told by the dentist's scheduler that treatment would be covered by my insurance. I got ther treatment, paid my co-pay, but was billed enyway.
The Dentist's office accepts my dental plan. I got an exam and cleaning and received a course of treatment. I started the course of treatment in November-December 2012. I had two procedures left on my course of treatment in mid-December, and the scheduler told me to delay the final two until my insurance would cover them starting in January 2013.

I did that, got the final work done, paid my co-pay and thought tyhat was the end of it til my next exam. A month later I got a bill for what was supposed to be paid by my insurer. I figured the insurer was just slow to pay. When I got the bill again the next month, I called the dental office to find out what was going on. The scheduler said the insurer should have paid but to hold the line and she'd check. A few minutes later the offfice manager got on the line and said my insurance coverage didn't start again in January, it starts again in October and the bill was valid.

I sent in a check and a letter explaining that they told me my insurance would cover it but they were wrong. Why should I pay full value for their mistake. They sent me a letter back saying it was my responsibility to know my insurance.

I think this is wrong. If my Doctor recommends an operation and says my insurance covers it, I don't check to make sure he's right. That's part of his service: knowing the details of all the health plans he accepts.
