The patient started orthodontic treatment and was quoted a price about 50% off our normal fee.  She was in braces about a year and was happy with the result.  She was anxious to get them off.  We bonded a permanent wire retainer on the lower.  We also made a clear retainer for...

the top teeth.  We also made clear bleaching trays.  On 10/2/15 she texted me that she somehow dropped her retainers and they're lost.  I texted her back that she could come in the next day we were working.  Then she texted that she found them.  She had bleaching trays which are very thin, and probably showed them to another dentist saying they were retainers.  The retainer material is heavy duty. I again invited her to come to the office.   On 12/10 she said she hasn't had a chance to come in.  I told her via text she had a balance. She said she wasn't happy with her teeth but she was going to pay her bill.She has a large balance for different procedures but I gave her time to pay because she lost her job.  Now she says she won't pay unless she gets braces back on.  She threatened to leave bad feedback.  We asked her repeatedly to come in.  She left town for a while and out of the blue called with a threatening tone and making derogatory comments.  She probably didn't wear the upper retainer or broke the lower wire one although I don't know she would not return for treatment.  This is not surprising, given that she has made no effort to pay her large bill.  We have done nothing but provide the utmost quality care, and she was responsible for coming to show me a problem if it existed.  She just never came back and never paid her bill  The law allows a doctor to discontinue the treatment if a patient stops payment on a balance. The last texts she sent before yesterday were in December.  She has not fulfilled her part of the agreement.  We have completed all we agreed to do, and we have done it well.  We do have proof of her completed treatment, and it looks great. We have no obligation to see her for anything. The last time she came in was July 2015...I have proof that she said she wanted to come in and would pay her balance.  Instead she disappeared, has made no effort to pay, and has engaged in threats and disparaging comments about my practice.  It is best she pays her large balance and moves on to another office because she has poisoned this doctor/ patient relationship.
