Dr. Marv's Transmissions Reviews (4)

Dear [redacted] :

This is [redacted], Owner of Dr Marvs Transmissions responding back to your
submitted complaint (#[redacted]).
     ...

[redacted] Mother came in to DR Marvs transmission  and explained to us her automotive issue of
the car not starting. We then told her it will not be a problem for her to drop
the car off and we will diagnose and further fix the problem if
interested.  She had told us the car is
only 2 blocks away and will need a tow truck. Dr marvs Transmission does NOT
poses a tow truck or any other automobile transportation device. We then
advised her of a towing company in town and how much it will cost. She approved
the towing fees (from the towing company) and supplied us with the address of
where the disabled vehicle is.

 Later on that
afternoon, the car has arrived to Dr Marvs. I opened the hood to come across
water all over the engine. There was a terrible rainstorm the night before she
came in where major highways and streets were flooded. Being a mechanic for 34
years, I had done all the preliminary diagnosing flow, to where the problem
lays being water inside the The engine cylinders. (water does NOT compress NOR
ignite, therefore causing her engine to “HYDRO-LOCK”.  Every petroleum powered engine are equipped
with “pistons” that are controlled by a “crank shaft” the starter turns the
crankshaft. Now this being a fact, I tried to turn the “crank shaft” by hand to
rule out any starter or torque converter problems. With this action being
processed, the crankshaft will not turn. I then investigated her water problem,
water has even gotten into the carpet resulting in foul odor witch will soon
turn into mold. I then inserted chemicals witch will help evaporate the water
thus allowing the engine to rotate 360 freely.

I had called her up to explain what the problem is and what actions are needed to
repair this.
She then told us, the water inside the engine bay wasn’t
from the rain storm witch multiple cars in NJ were flooded under water but
rather he husband left the hood open during the rain. We also have a Spanish
tech who spoke with her so we are all on the same page. Offering her a 100$ for
the car was not in any what way disrespectful
or under estimate to the cars value due to excessive body rust and high
mileage. She explained to us, she doesn’t have that kind of money to spend
witch is highly understandable in todays day. I would also like to mention,
because she failed to, We did NOT charge her a diagnosing fee witch at our rate
is 75.00$ hour or any of the chemicals I used to evaporate water in the
cylinders. She then told us she would like the car delivered back to her
household when she contacted the towing services (not part of DR Marvs) where
she spent another 60$ for towing fees. Multiple hours after the chemical
treatment inside the engine. Her daughter then jump start the car next day thinking
it was poor services witch I would never give to any one customer being
mechanic 34 years and shop owner. It is unfortunate the towing company did not
supply her with a bill, but she is more then welcome to contact them and have
them print one up for her. If there is any questions or concern, please feel
free to contact us at [redacted]
                                          ... Thank you!

The customer is out of warranty we offered a discounted price to do the repair again the customer declined .We regret his situation and would like to offer him the repair free of charge ! Dr Marv's Transmissions

Review: My car's transmission was replaced by Dr. Marv's in Scotch Plains NJ, in May 2013. The warranty stated it would be good for 12 months or 12,000 miles. My car just broke down a few days ago with my car now in need of another transmission overhaul. 13 months and my car has only 9,000 miles on it since my 1st visit to Dr.Marv. When I sought their help in this matter, they said sorry there is really nothing that could be done other than a slight discount from the previous repair. My complaint is they obviously don't stand behind their work and don't care to leave the customer feeling they got their money's worth. The cost off the original repair was $2000, they price to fix their mistake would be another $1500. That's alot of money to be paying for poor quality of work and even poorer business practice.Desired Settlement: Dr. Marv's Transmission repair shop doesn't do very good repair work and their business practice is even worse. They should stand behind the service that they provide and the customer should not walk away feeling cheated or scammed . Make it known to the public to avoid this business.

Thank you

Review: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because: Marv's transmission should have done the right thing in the first place and this wouldn't have had to go this far. A repair as major as this should have lasted more than 9,000 miles. I choose to do business with companies that stand by their work and you do not. You offered me free of charge because you knew I took it somewhere else. I just want people to be aware of your business practices. Shame on you!Regards,[redacted]

Review: My mother took her car to Dr Marv's Transmission to get the car fix (the car was not starting nor running) a tow truck came to her house and took the car. on the next day, they called my mom and they told her that there was water in the engine and in order to fix it they will have to remove the engine out of the car, etc etc and it will cost her a couple of thousands. My mother went back to the Shop to talk to them, she told them that she did not have the money to get it fix and she requested to bring her car back home. Dr Marv's Transmission told my mother the following. "your car engine is damaged and this will cost you at lot of money, it does not make any sense to fix it since the car value is much less than the fixing price, however, I will give you $100 for your car" this person offered my mother $100 for her car, of course, they thought that they could get away with it since my mothers english wasn't very good. My mother refused to sell her car for $100, they took the car back home and they charged her $60 more, she paid $120, $60 each way. The shop is 2 blocks away form us. they did not give my mother a receipt for the tow truck and neither a diagnostic statement or estimate of the cost. I wonder why!

Yesterday I went to my mother's house and I jumped started her car, the car is running fine, no problem codes came out from the scanner; it just needed a good jump start!!

I want and apology and to refund my mother her $120.Desired Settlement: an apology and refund her money!
