Review: We found a dentist thru our Dental plan and confirmed their participation in the plan. My my son had an evaluation 8/2013. The dentist confirmed his wisdom teeth required extraction. We spoke at length with his billing department to discuss costs and insurance issues. The surgery was done 12/2013. We reiterated before & after the surgery that dental insurance was to be billed & residual amounts would be billed to our major medical. The dental insurance company pre-certified the surgery to insure they would cover it. The dentist's billing staff were aware of this & agreed the claims would be filed promptly. I was told that the claims would be filed and heard no more about it until 6/2014 when I received an invoice from the Dr. for $1800.00 showing nothing paid by dental insurance. I began calling the billing office regularly & left many messages but no one ever returned my phone calls. 2 weeks ago, a collection agency - [redacted] in [redacted], PA called to say the account had been placed in collection. I spoke with a [redacted], who was demeaning, hostile, impatient and unprofessional. I tried to explain that there was an error and he threatened me with all kinds of ridiculous actions against me and said the dentist office would refuse to speak to me even if I called. He then asked for $2250, quite a bit more than the surgery had been and said if I didn't pay it that day there would be a long list of legal consequence. I called the dental insurance company who told me the Dr's office never even filed a claim despite the pre-certification and said if they had, it would have been paid. They said they'd still pay it but needed the Dr. to file the claim. I've been calling many times a week and the person in the billing office refuses to return my calls. Meanwhile the collection agency threatens to file civil legal proceedings against me. This Dr.has been negligent and will not respond to my requests to resolve the matter as agreed so I'm filing a complaint for help.Desired Settlement: I want the Dr. to file the appropriate claim forms to the dental insurance company that pre-certified the surgery so that the claim will be paid. They should also drop the collection proceedings and alert the 3 credit reporting bureaus to indicate this was their error and it shouldn't adversely affect my credit.
