Dr. Peggy J. Lomax, M.D.

Review: I found Dr. Lomax because information on her practice on the healthgrades website indicated she accepted [redacted] insurance. I saw Dr. Lomax twice in 2010 and both times her office collected my [redacted] insurance card. I paid my copay both visits and a year later I received an invoice from Dr. Lomax with a balance of $475.00 with no explanation of services or details other than "Balance Forward". Why was I recieving a bill over 15 months old? I sent a letter in May 2012 to Dr. Lomax disputing the amount in its entirety and a few months later I recieved a collection letter for over $700.00 including legal fees. I was never sent a demand letter by Dr. Lomax advising me of the situation prior to this collection letter for over $700.00. I contacted [redacted] and was told that Dr. Lomax does not participate in the [redacted] network. I was never advised by Dr. Lomax she was out-of-network. Dr. Lomax had two opportunities at the very least to tell me they did not accept [redacted].I was misled by Dr. Lomax to believe she accepted [redacted]. I am now being bullied to pay an absurd amount for something that was not my billing error, but the error of Dr. Lomax's office. As a client, I was never informed of money due until over a year later. How was I supposed to know Dr. Lomax was out of network? As far as I knew for over a year, Dr. Lomax accepted my copay and insurance card. My response to her invoice was never acknowledged by her office directly and now I have a collection letter for over $700.00. My complaint is based on misleading billing practices and miscommunication to clients regarding services and insurance issues.Desired Settlement: I am prepared to pay for the equivalent amount charged through my insurance company, what the in network amount would have been, which is $200.00.
