Dr. Richard S. Berry, MD Reviews (3)

Revdex.com:At this time, I have not been contacted by Dr. Richard S. Berry, MD regarding complaint ID [redacted].I went to [redacted] in September 2014. Before making the appointment, I called to verify they participate in my...

insurance plan, Emblem Health PPO. They stated yes they do. I went to the appointment, and went for the follow-up. They photocopied my insurance card, and both times they collected my copay. In December I got a message on my phone stating I owe the remaining balance, because they do not take my insurance. I called back and stated that is not possible, I verified they took my insurance before I came in. The [redacted] stated that "the girl made a mistake" so I would have to pay. I told her I don't think I should have to pay, we went back and forth. Finally, I asked her to mail me a bill. I never got a bill. On February [redacted] I got a phone call from a collection agency saying I would go to collection if I didn't pay. I paid the collection agency. I called back Dr. Berry's office and spoke to the [redacted] again. I was upset because: 1. They told me they took my insurance and collected my copay, and then rescinded that after services had been rendered. They blindsided me into paying more than I should have, because I would not go to a doctor who does not participate in my insurance. 2. They sent me to collection without ever sending me a bill. I did not receive any documentation, all I got was a phone message. I was not even aware of where the charges exactly stemmed from. I believe the office is acting illegally, and taking advantage of patients. I want to put a stop to their unethical practices. Sincerely,[redacted]

Review: I was there today for a routine visit. I was then billed $196 for ridiculous charges. I was billed over $80 to pop face pimples when I was not informed of these charges and was billed as "surgery". In addition I was billed another $39 for [redacted], however I do not understand the billing for the surgery. I should have been informed of the charges prior to having the procedures done. I was then charged $53 for the visit which is routine. I believe this is fraud for the process this business conducts on its patients. I have been here numerous times and have had the same EXACT work done and have never been billed this much.Desired Settlement: I would like to be refunded for the charges outside of the office visit or to equate to the same as my previous visits.

Review: Do not go to this doctor. First of all, you will wait over an hour to be seen in their ZOO of a waiting room, just to be seen for like 5 seconds by one of the million PAs working in this zoo! The front desk staff is rude and incompetent! They are so DISTRACTED and frazzled working in this overbooked practice that they get everything mixed up and confused. When I first called to make an appointment, they confirmed with me that they take my insurance. (If you have health insurance, WHY ON EARTH would you go to a doctor that does not take your insurance. There are a million other better dermatologists I could have gone to.) I went for a visit, and scheduled a follow-up 2 weeks later, and went. They had no problem telling me they take my insurance, and accepting my copays. AFTER my 2 visits, I get a phone call stating they do not take my insurance and I will be responsible for the bill. EXCUSE ME! Why didn't anyone think to look up and tell me in the first place they don't take my insurance. The staff is IGNORANT, DISTRACTED, RUDE, AND MISINFORMED. I have worked in healthcare for over 10 years, I know it gets busy. But ANY of the doctors I worked with would have had the common sense to eat the charge as a courtesy because of the incompetence of the office staff. To top it all off, I moved in the middle of all this. I gave the [redacted] my new address and told her to send me a bill. A bill NEVER came. Now 5 months later I get a call from a collection agency. TALK ABOUT AN INCOMPETENT PRACTICE! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!Desired Settlement: I paid the bill when the debt collector called me because I have impecable credit, and I do not want it to be impacted by the stupidity of others. I believe that I am not responsible for this bill because ultimately it was an oversight on the office's part. I would like to be refunded $117.96.
