Dragon Garden Chinese & Japanese Restaurant Reviews (%countItem)

Some time ago we purchased several gift cards from a provider called iShop for this restaurant and used some and had 3 left. This neighborhood place has always provided great good and service at a reasonable price. However, we were warned by fellow neighbors that it had different management and service and was not good anymore and that we should see if our certificates were still valid. The certificates clearly state "This card does not expire." All 3 are for $20 each and states "Valid on Hibachi only." Our handicapped son and I wanted to get Mother's Day dinner from them and so called on Saturday May 9 at 6 PM to see if the certificates were still good and talked to someone who said she was a manager ***. I clearly asked about the fact that due to the pandemic do they honor the Hibachi only certificates. She said they were good "on all menu items." On Sunday afternoon we called and placed our order with a nice man who again I made sure knew that we could use them. He confirmed they are good on all menu items. When we arrive at 5 PM on May 10 some nasty woman said she had never heard of them. They even have their name and address on them, we have used them before, and had called. She became very angry and the food was brought out in dirty boxes that looked like supplies had come in. She refused to honor the certificate. We left the food in the filthy box since she would not honor the certificates that we had used before. We of course are stuck with 3 $20 certificates now due to this. I was extremely upset that she tried to say we were attempting to steal when the certificates are clearly theirs, have code numbers on them, name of company, address, etc.

Good afternoon,The response for the complaint on Dragon Garden is below. Please let me know if you need anything else.
As the customer mentioned, the iShop gift certificates clearly state they are valued at 20 dollars with restrictions like “valid on hibachi only”. These certificates were from many years ago and have not been used in ages, so our employee had no knowledge of their existence. Over the phone, there was no mention about ishop, so she believed the customer was talking about our own, personal, issued gift certificates. The customer responded, “Yes” when asked if he was talking about our green gift certificates, so the employee told him it was valid on everything. When he got to the restaurant and we told him the certificate was for hibachi only, he began to get very angry. We were going to allow him to use the certificate on the Chinese food he ordered (since it was already cooked) but he was not letting us explain to him the misunderstanding and that we were making an exception for him. He aggressively slammed the box of food down and refused to take it, then left without discussion. After receiving the complaint, I contacted the customer and wanted to create a solution to this problem, but he again would not listen. I explained to him once more that we would accept his certificates and even make an exception to allow him to use one on Chinese, but the rest would have to be used on hibachi as stated in the certificates’ restrictions. He was hesitant in believing I would keep my word on this offer, so I told him to come into the restaurant with the certificates and I would even sign them to ensure that he could use them. I couldn’t hear clearly what he responded so I stated, “I beg your pardon?” and he furiously shouted, “ARE YOU DEAF?” at me multiple times. I tried to continue the conversation and barely got a chance to, as he made the racial comment, “If you don’t know English don’t talk”. Again, this was all a big misunderstanding/miscommunication and I sincerely apologize. I forgive the customer for being discriminating and they can still come in to use their remaining certificates if they wish.

I would like to apologize again for this misunderstanding and am sorry you feel this way. As stated in our previous response, we will honor your remaining three certificates and even allow you to use one on Chinese, however the other two will have to be used on hibachi as the certificate restriction states. If you wish, you may bring the certificates into the restaurant and I will sign them to ensure their use. Unfortunately, we cannot issue you a cash refund because the certificates were purchased from ishop, which we solely used as advertisement for when the hibachi first opened. Ishop did not reimburse us for any of the certificates they sold and the food/labor expenses were paid out of pocket by us to get the name out. I hope this helps clarify things and resolve the problem.

Revdex.com:
We have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to us ONLY IF THE MANAGEMENT OF Dragon Garden Chinese & Japanese Restaurant located in Northfield Center, OH (and/or any successive owners/operators/managers) honors the statement made above. IF NOT, this complaint shall be reopened and/or re-established. There have been enough downright lies and/or very deceptive statements made by their employees. A copy of this information shall be saved in case any issues are not resolved as they promise to be potentially used in small claims court against them. We also do not except any food purchased to be tainted or altered nor served in very dirty take-out boxes as it was when we refused the food which started this original complaint. During these days of the Chinese Corona Virus Covid 19 we expected that our food would have been picked up in clean containers not filthy old boxes which appeared to be boxes in which supplies or other materials had been delivered to the restaurant. Our health is important to us even if it is not important to the restaurant owner/operators.
