Review: The company (acting under the name [redacted] Construction) gave me a quote of 4k to fix the treads & risers on my exterior front staircase. We would reuse my materials for the risers & new blue stone treads. The side stone railings were to remain untouched except for the new blue stone treads. We signed contract & I was required to give a 50% deposit (2K) then. [redacted] came 2 weeks later & (without blue stone material) with associate, [redacted], & began ripping up my front staircase. They arrived at 10:15 am & [redacted] knocked at my door at 11:15 to tell me that he discovered some damage & that the entire staircase & side railings needed to be ripped out & reconstructed from scratch. He said he could no longer use my material for the risers & that the new job was going to be $17,800. I told him I couldn't afford that & he said if we did stucco on the risers & didn't reconstruct the side stone railings that it would reduce the price to 13,200. I told him I needed to discuss with my husband & my father (who is also a contractor). He & his friend [redacted] stayed another hour trying to convince me that the work needed to be done & I kept saying I couldn't commit at that moment. I asked about getting back the deposit & he said he needed to speak to his father & that the supplier doesn't take returns etc.... I said "okay then just deliver the blue stone to my house and then you don't have to worry about giving me my money or returning it". He said he didn't that was possible, but that he would speak to his father and get back to me. In the meanwhile, I had 2 other contractors come to my home and tell me that they didn't need to rip out the entire staircase and that the original job (as described above with [redacted] Construction) was possible. My father and husband contacted [redacted] for a refund of my deposit and he refused. My husband asked to speak directly to his father and both my husband & father spoke with [redacted]'s father and he too refused to return my deposit or give us the stone.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of my original deposit (2K) as he said he wasn't able to do the original job as discussed and I was not willing to proceed with the new job as he described or with the price he quoted (13,200k). He left me with a totally destroyed and unusable staircase and left all the debris. I needed to have someone else come and paid full price for materials and removal of debris.
