I recently purchased a condo that needed basically new everything. The easiest part of that remodel was anything that A-1 Carpet and Tile was involved. They were a complete joy to work with and bent over backwards to help me work around the other contractors.
I purchased my kitchen cabinets and tile from xxxxx. I also had xxxxx quote carpet. They came in twice of what was expected for the carpet based on the square footage and the price labeled for carpet and padding. I spoke to xxxxx at A-1 and went over my carpet options. I picked out a carpet that I liked and he gave me a price based on the square footage that xxxxx had measured and I was happy. xxxxx then came to my condo to measure for the carpet, just to make sure. I am glad he did because he said, I can do it with less carpet and he reduced my cost on the spot. He didnât have to do that and could have kept his mouth shut; I would have never known. Two weeks later, xxxxx called me back and said he had spoken to his manager and could reduce the price. I told them too little too late; you should have given me your best price from the beginning.
I had already lined up the tile install with someone else, but then I was not confident that they would do a good job. I went back to see xxxxx and we worked out an install price. I am so glad I did that. The tile I had bought from xxxxx has a couple of boxes (2 out of 14) of tile that were not completely square. The installer caught that about a quarter of the way through. He ripped up his work and started over with the good boxes. They did not complain or rush through the rest of the job. I have gotten several compliments on the tile install.
As I had mentioned before, I purchased my cabinets from xxxxx and were going to install them for me as well. Cabinets delivered directly to the condo, install within a couple of days. Sounds simple. It took more than two weeks to get an install date once the cabinets were delivered. The cabinets where sitting in the living room; so, in the way to put carpet down. A-1 worked with me as I rescheduled the carpet install two times.
In summary, A-1 = joy to work with. xxxxx, not so much. Still waiting to get a date to have my granite counter-top templating done since my cabinets are installed. Keeping my fingers crossed it happens soon because I have to move in soon. If only A-1 did granite counter-tops.
