This vechile was brought into my shop to repair a rust bubble spot on the left hand side of the bed and also there was a crack along the right hand side wheel well of the bedGiven the fact we would need to spot and blend both sides of the bed we did the entire bed of the truckTe customer
was sent to me by his father who manages a auto parts store who sells me all my paint and body materials. I repaired the left and right sides of the truck and spotted in the repairs with the factory base coat color of silverAfter that is applied, you have to come back and recoat with clear to make the shine has this is a part processThis is where the problem startsOne must tape up the entire bed to flat base coat, then when you clear you paint over the decals and pin stripping with clear which is protalcall to make a even look, so yes I painted clear over his pin stripe. The problem occured has the clear started drying over night, it didnt set up but turned mussyI saw this the next morning, I cal him and told him about problem and I stated I thought the humidity jumped to high durning the night which caused the problemHe said that was fine, thanked me for calling and I told him I was going to redo it over next two daysSecond go round same thing happened again, now we got a real mess on our hands, it is now showing wrinkles scratches etc from where its not curing correctly. I went and contacted the company who made the materials, they checked the batch number and said they had recived complaints about this from other peopleThey asked me to return the unused material and hardner to the storeI took it to the parts store, saw his father who is the manager there, he was one in first place who gave me the contact info of company official, he said he knew of the problem and that in his view the materials was bad or had set on a shelf somewhere for to long and is no goodHe took the material and returned it to the head paint maker. Now I have spoken with the owner of this truck several timesThe first time when he picked up the truck, I explained to him on the phone what happen, and that the paint had to set up for at least a couple weeks to cure before it can be fixedWe made a appointment for weeks later for him to drop it offThe day before he was to bring it he didnt show up but call wanting his dollars backI did tell himI would rather repair the vechile because I know what happened to the truck finish and because it was a defect in the materials, if anyone else repair it I would recieve bad mouth about my shop which I am hearingIf I messed it up from stupidity or not knowing what I was doing thats one thing, but bad meterials is another ball game. I have told him I would refund his 300, but I suffered a heart attack a few weeks ago and have not came back to work yetWhen I do, has I told him I will refund his money. I hope this explains this unfortunate deal but its how it went down
