Drews Place Village Green Reviews (1)

I am writing to say how disappointed I was with the care, services and poor treatment of my mother provided by Tecumseh Place Assisted Living facility I placed my mother in their care when she years old and could no longer live alone She had had a bowel blockage surgery in December, 2016...and after the surgery, from which she recovered; she required more daily and professional care than I alone could provide her She also developed some dementia problems and eventually was also diagnosed with Alzheimer Disease My mother was placed in the general population facility, but it was quickly learned that she required more personal attention and care due to her memory problems and nightly panic attacks and outbursts from her disease I was told that by moving her to the Tecumseh Place memory care unit she would get this additional care, as they had more staff on duty and people who knew how to take care of elderly people with my mother's illness What I found was just the opposite! She was in a room that her "panic" button didn't work half the time There was only a nurse on duty during the day, and in the evening when her symptoms were at their worst, the people working were unprofessional health care aids One night, when I stayed late to help my mother eat her dinner (which I did often because she could not always eat her meals by herself and the aids would not help her), I was told by one of the aids that it was going to be a "difficult night" because she was fairly new in her job and had only been working there one month, and that the girl helping her had just started her job that night (first day), and that the person dispensing the medicines (which was NOT a nurse), had only been there a week This is NOT professional care! My mother was also supposed to be on soft foods because she lacked the teeth to chew her food thoroughly and had difficulty with swallowing, but the staff only prepared soft food for her the first few days and then they decided that she could eat whatever they gave her So, her meals were not healthy or easy enough for her to eat One night, I was called at 3:a.mto come to the facility to help "calm my mother down" as they couldn't When I got there, the two staff members, (so much for having adequate staff on duty for a 20-patient facility!), I asked what they were doing that they couldn't take care of my mother One of the girls told me that they were there to "clean the place and prepare the meals for the next day, and not to take care of the patients." So, who was taking care of the other elderly people who were there, let alone attending to my mother's needsBecause of my mother's dementia, she could not understand why she was even there and why the people working there wouldn't help her when she called out I was there one evening when I took her from her room to meet the three staff members who would be there that night to help her after I left, and they were eating their dinner When I told my mother they were going to be taking care of her, the three staff members just completely ignored her, even when she reached out her frail little hand to have one of them hold it for a moment to reassure her It would have taken a second to reassure my mother that she was not alone, but they just ignored herI could go on and on with instances that occurred in the Tecumseh Place memory care unit and about how terrible the service was for my poor mother Finally, when it was obvious to them that they couldn't calm her down at night, the owner threatened to kick her out of the place So, I took my mother home for an entire weekend to see if I could take care of her all by myself, but her physical, emotional and mental needs were far more than I could handle alone I needed help, which is why I had placed my mom in the Tecumseh Place in the first place I was a family member who was there every day - sometimes all day to help take care of my mom as she wasn't getting the care she needed or deserved - and I only reluctantly left her at night as I needed to get some rest But I never felt comfortable leaving her, and never knew how I would find her in the morning! There were many patients there that I rarely saw any family member or friend visit I often found myself helping the other patients to eat their dinner, etc., as the staff was not around or busy helping others There was just not enough staff to take care of everyone and most of them were inexperienced Finally, I opted to reach out to Hospice for some additional help with my motherThe solution for them was to start her on morphine and other narcotics to calm her down and just have her sleep or be a "zombie" like so many of the other patientsLong story short, after Hospice began helping, my mother cut herself badly on her arm (never did know how) and ended up in a coma (never did know why)! I finally took her home where she died after days Call if you want more info! Bad facility!
