We decided to update our kitchen with new countertop, backsplash & new sink We went to Menards in Marion, picked up their contractor list & called the first name on the list - Dave from DRH Construction That is when our nightmare began We should have been concerned when he was minutes late for the appointment - on day # Little did we know, this was his style When he finally got here, he measured & gave us an estimate He quoted a hour job Cool - we were excited He said he would email measurements to Menards that same day so we could go pick out countertop We went to Menards the very next day & found out he didn't email anything to them When we called him about it, he sent the measurements & we ordered our countertop When it finally arrived, we lined him up to come & install it We were quite surprised when he didn't come & instead sent young boys to do the job We certainly expected that Dave would be here The boys struggled with the countertop all day When they finally gave up, I could literally put one finger between the countertop & the wall it was supposed to sit against Not knowing how they planned to fix it, they decided to cut in our sink Since all of this was taking so long, I asked the boys how long the backsplash would take? They looked at me like I had heads Backsplash - what backsplash? They had no idea Dave had bid a backsplash After they called Dave, I got a text that said "I didn't know we were doing backsplash." Really? Dave measured for it & told us exactly what to buy - grout & all We had $worth of backsplash sitting in the kitchen waiting for him So our bill had to be adjusted - ugh When the boys had given up & left for the day, we realized they cut the sink wrong It was off center & didn't line up with our plumbing It was a Friday & I literally called & texted Dave all evening, begging him to do something since we had company coming on Sunday He ignored all my emergency calls & texts When he finally responded, he told me he would come on Monday morning at 8am sharp We were without water all weekend & he didn't care at all On Monday after he was hours late (without a call or a text) he blamed the manufacturer for cutting the countertop wrong - even tho he approved the template they sent A new countertop had to be ordered & we were back to the beginning Another weeks went by with our kitchen torn up The 2nd countertop finally arrived & Dave called to tell me that it was warped & damaged He said he was taking it to a machine shop for repair We were very reluctant about accepting it & my husband insisted he give us a warranty in case it warped again at some point He said he would, but didn't I had to remind him several times & didn't pay the bill until he put something in writing Next it was time for the backsplash Day after day he either didn't show up, or was several hours late No communication - none Our stove was permanently in the middle of our kitchen & our kitchen things were all over the dining room I literally babysat every inch of this project I was exhausted & upset My husband was tired of coming home every night & hearing the saga - so in week #(remember, hour project!) he confronted Dave & literally chewed him out, telling him we were DONE with this He agreed to be more reliable Then the backsplash problems started It wasn't straight - it ran downhill The ends were uneven They couldn't get the grout to wash off the backsplash so it was cloudy They smeared dark grey grout all over my freshly painted kitchen walls They washed their filthy grout sponge in my new ivory sink And to my horror, they knocked off the old backsplash & let all the ceramic pieces crash onto our hardwood flooring, without covering any of it! It's unbelievable that it didn't destroy our floor because it should have Our dishwasher fell out of the cabinet when they didn't secure it Every day a new excuse on why he couldn't work or why he was so late He had to take an employee to the hospital for stitches, his truck broke down, his mom was in the hospital, he had water in his basement, they were tied up at another job, etcetcetc We went to Menards & complained, but of course, they don't want to accept any responsibility for their contractor list He used a drywaller to fix a few bad spots on the wall behind our old backsplash How embarrassing when that drywaller kept contacting me to help him get payment from Dave Dave avoided him because he owed him money We let the drywaller come to our house when Dave was here, to surprise him & pin him down for payment Completely unprofessional When I finally decided to check the Revdex.com site, I saw he had a C- rating Now he has an F - before my review! Lesson learned! I struggled about writing this review, as Dave is a likeable person But I don't want anyone else to go thru what we went thru Our hour job took weeks

We decided to update our kitchen with new countertop, backsplash & new sink. We went to Menards in Marion, picked up their contractor list & called the first name on the list - Dave from DRH Construction. That is when our nightmare began. We should have been concerned when he was 30 minutes late for the appointment - on day #1. Little did we know, this was his style. When he finally got here, he measured & gave us an estimate. He quoted a 4 hour job. Cool - we were excited. He said he would email measurements to Menards that same day so we could go pick out countertop. We went to Menards the very next day & found out he didn't email anything to them. When we called him about it, he sent the measurements & we ordered our countertop. When it finally arrived, we lined him up to come & install it. We were quite surprised when he didn't come & instead sent 2 young boys to do the job. We certainly expected that Dave would be here. The boys struggled with the countertop all day. When they finally gave up, I could literally put one finger between the countertop & the wall it was supposed to sit against. Not knowing how they planned to fix it, they decided to cut in our sink. Since all of this was taking so long, I asked the boys how long the backsplash would take? They looked at me like I had 2 heads. Backsplash - what backsplash? They had no idea Dave had bid a backsplash. After they called Dave, I got a text that said "I didn't know we were doing backsplash." Really? Dave measured for it & told us exactly what to buy - grout & all. We had $600 worth of backsplash sitting in the kitchen waiting for him. So our bill had to be adjusted - ugh. When the boys had given up & left for the day, we realized they cut the sink wrong. It was off center & didn't line up with our plumbing. It was a Friday & I literally called & texted Dave all evening, begging him to do something since we had company coming on Sunday. He ignored all my emergency calls & texts. When he finally responded, he told me he would come on Monday morning at 8am sharp. We were without water all weekend & he didn't care at all. On Monday after he was 3 hours late (without a call or a text) he blamed the manufacturer for cutting the countertop wrong - even tho he approved the template they sent. A new countertop had to be ordered & we were back to the beginning. Another 2.5 weeks went by with our kitchen torn up. The 2nd countertop finally arrived & Dave called to tell me that it was warped & damaged. He said he was taking it to a machine shop for repair. We were very reluctant about accepting it & my husband insisted he give us a warranty in case it warped again at some point. He said he would, but didn't. I had to remind him several times & didn't pay the bill until he put something in writing. Next it was time for the backsplash. Day after day he either didn't show up, or was several hours late. No communication - none. Our stove was permanently in the middle of our kitchen & our kitchen things were all over the dining room. I literally babysat every inch of this project. I was exhausted & upset. My husband was tired of coming home every night & hearing the saga - so in week #8 (remember, 4 hour project!) he confronted Dave & literally chewed him out, telling him we were DONE with this. He agreed to be more reliable. Then the backsplash problems started. It wasn't straight - it ran downhill. The ends were uneven. They couldn't get the grout to wash off the backsplash so it was cloudy. They smeared dark grey grout all over my freshly painted kitchen walls. They washed their filthy grout sponge in my new ivory sink. And to my horror, they knocked off the old backsplash & let all the ceramic pieces crash onto our hardwood flooring, without covering any of it! It's unbelievable that it didn't destroy our floor because it should have. Our dishwasher fell out of the cabinet when they didn't secure it. Every day a new excuse on why he couldn't work or why he was so late. He had to take an employee to the hospital for stitches, his truck broke down, his mom was in the hospital, he had water in his basement, they were tied up at another job, etc. etc. etc. We went to Menards & complained, but of course, they don't want to accept any responsibility for their contractor list. He used a drywaller to fix a few bad spots on the wall behind our old backsplash. How embarrassing when that drywaller kept contacting me to help him get payment from Dave. Dave avoided him because he owed him money. We let the drywaller come to our house when Dave was here, to surprise him & pin him down for payment. Completely unprofessional. When I finally decided to check the Revdex.com site, I saw he had a C- rating. Now he has an F - before my review! Lesson learned! I struggled about writing this review, as Dave is a likeable person. But I don't want anyone else to go thru what we went thru. Our 4 hour job took 9 weeks.
