Drs. May, Hettler & Associates, Doctors of Optometry Reviews (1)

Review: I took my 6 year old daughter here for her first eye exam. We were told that she would need glasses. We were taken to a table and given the option of selecting frames off of a spinning cart all priced in the uppers of $150 to $200 each. Coerced into purchasing a $220 pair of glasses we waited two weeks for production. After using them my daughter complained that there was no difference. I had a second opinion done with another optometrist and was advised that the prescription was so slight that it barely offered correction. The second opinion stated that my daughter could benefit from using reading glasses if she is reading for lengthy amounts of time (1 to 2 hours) as most adults would, however, I cant think of a single child I know that sits that still for that length of time forcing the need for vision correction. Bottom line, we were told that she did not need prescription glasses. I feel taken advantage of and attempted to have the practice refund our money and remedy the situation. After two weeks of waiting I finally contacted them again and spoke to [redacted] who apologized that someone hadn't reached out sooner and listened to my concerns. The next day she said she spoke with the owner and they were unwilling to refund my money. I have contacted my bank to put in a dispute claim in hopes that they will take my concerns seriously.Desired Settlement: I would like to return the glasses and have my money refunded.

**. [redacted],

First and foremost please let me apologize for the extreme delay in replying to this complaint. Due to unforeseen circumstances it was not originally received when filed last August as we typically try to respond immediately to any dissatisfied customer. Having taken the time to speak to all of the players involved in the situation that you described I would like to address a couple of issues as well as offer a remedy for you. When it comes to eyewear for children under the age of ten we are always dealing with a very subjective exam and it is not at all uncommon to find doctors with opinion at odds relative to the question of whether or not to have the child wear corrective lenses. I spoke at length with [redacted] and she still feels that her original assessment relative to the recommendation for near vision glasses for your daughter was the best choice for her ongoing visual health. From my understanding you went for a second opinion and I did have one question about that. Did you bring the results and assessment from that exam to the Lake Ridge office? Our standard policy for anybody that goes out for a second opinion is too look at the evaluation and take it into consideration when making a refund/return decision. Regardless of whether you went into the office or not, and due to the time lapse between your complaint and my response , I would like to offer a solution to you to help put this issue to rest. If you would like to return the complete pair of glasses to the Lake Ridge practice we will provide you with a full materials refund in the amount of $212.50. Please let me know if you would like to exercise this option so that I can authorize things both in our computer system and at the office level. In closing I am once again very sorry both for the delay in our reply and for the negative experience that you had at our practice.

Yours for Better Vision,

I mailed the glasses back on 10/28/2013 via FedEx tracking number [redacted] to the Lake Ridge office and have forwarded the information you have supplied on to my banking institution for relevant action regarding my initial claim.
