Duct Works Environmental Reviews (3)

A+++++!
My husband and I purchased a home that was owned for 47 years by heavy smokers. The vents had visible nicotine/tar coated dust In the vents. I googled duct cleaning companies and got busy calling to find out prices/procedures. Many places couldn't even explain what process they use to clean vents so I was lucky to come across Duct Works Envirmmental LLC. We are very happy with the service provided and will definitely use them again and recommend to others. They are a few bucks more but worth every penny.

I contacted Duct Works Environmental after being stood-up twice on appointments by Sears Carpet & Duct Cleaning for duct cleaning at a duplex my wife and I own in Butler. I had read cautions about firms that offer low-ball prices, but in comparing the pictures and descriptions on Sears Home Services web site with those on Duct Works Environmental's site and those of other top-rated firms in the Milwaukee area, I felt that the equipment and procedure Sears employed would be "Good Enough" for my needs and I could save a few bucks, benefiting from the greater customer volume they might enjoy due to their name recognition.

I hadn't checked the Revdex.com's ratings and customer reviews before choosing a contractor, because too often bad firms aren't around long enough to accumulate a history of reports. Perhaps it's a liability of age but, when I grew up, Sears was a name you could trust. Unfortunately for Sears Carpet & Duct Cleaning, they've had enough customers attracted by the Sears name to have left a trail of recent complaints. The lesson learned: You can't always tell whether a company is reliable by checking with the Revdex.com, but you can sometimes discover who is TERRIBLE.

Once I contacted Duct Works Environmental I knew that I was dealing with professionals. They didn't need a 4-hour time window for your appointment and they showed-up on time. The crew's attire and demeanor was completely professional and their equipment impressive. The first thing they did was explain to me and my tenants all of the steps they'd be performing and what to expect. They worked efficiently and thoroughly and walked me through to show me how they had resealed all the duct work and put everything back in place when they were finished.

Well worth the price charged. Highly recommended.

Review: We contracted Duct Works Environmental to rid our air ducts of drywall and general dust in our 5 year old home. We did not want any cleaning products or chemicals used in that process due to allergies in our family. The owner misrepresented their services during our initial meeting. I specifically asked the owner if they used any cleaning products or chemicals in their process and he said no that it was all done using high powered vacuums and wisps to clean out the ducts. I was shocked to learn the day of cleaning that they had fogged an antimicrobial chemical (Oxine AD) into our air ducts. I had specifically asked that they not use any such agent and they did so anyway. Members of our family had severe eye irritation which required visits to both the walk-in clinic and eye doctor. We also vacated our home for a few days to improve symptoms. Their service caused our family extreme inconvenience and made us feel unsafe in our own home. We contacted another air duct company as well as the manufacturer of Oxine AD and neither could understand why Duct Works Environmental would use any chemical on a 5 year old home with no mold issues. Even with this said, we had specifically asked that they not use such products and they did so anyway.Desired Settlement: Due to the extreme inconvenience this caused our family, the doctor bills and missed work we are entitled to a full refund.

Business

Response:

The sanitizer was fogged into the air duct system by mistake. Oxide AD becomes neutral when dry. That takes about 15 minutes. In 14 years this has not happened before and there has never been a person who has asked for sanitizing that has ever had a reaction to Oxide AD. We are sorry the product was fogged into this duct system and it was a mistake in the field. This service was not included on the invoice nor did I ask if the customer wanted sanitizing. I spoke with the owner on the day of the cleaning and apologized several times. I asked if there was anything we could do and I was told the owner would check into it. We were contacted by the husband several days later asking questions about the process and Oxide AD. He did not mention any eye irritations or hotel stay and he did not ask me for a refund. I apologized again for our in field mistake. I wish that the owner had taken the time to speak with me again since I was willing to make restitution. I understand the customer would like a refund and I am willing to do that as it was our mistake. What do I need to do at this point?
