Dunlap Construction Company Reviews (1)

Let me start by saying, I’m sorry to hear the deck is giving the ***’s problems and I’m going to attempt to address each item that *** shared as well as the items regarding the project that she neglected to mentionFirst, let me address the NARI issue. Dunlap Construction has not
been a member since 2010; however, I am a Certified Remodeler through NARI and have been since the inception of the program approximately years agoTo become a Certified Remodeler, NARI requires the contractor take and pass an intense comprehensive written exam covering critical subject areas such as sound business management practices, knowledge of building codes and construction law, plans and specification, proper and safe use of tools and equipment, safety, standards of practice, math, and several special skill areas. After becoming a NARI Certified Remodeler, the contractor must meet their annual recertification requirements including continued education and participation in industry-related programs. It is much more rigorous than simply paying membership dues and pledging to be ethicalI verbally told *** *** that I was a Certified Remodeler through NARI and can furnish the card as proof. NARI membership is for the company whereas NARI certification is for the individual and in their own words, more difficult to obtainDeck Construction: The ***’s contract with Dunlap Construction dated 2/25/was completed and the final inspection was approved on 7/22/13. The first email we received from *** was on Friday, 7/11/which stated, “I have some concerns with the job you did here.” I contacted *** for more information then went to the job site several days later with our tile installer. The first thing we noticed was a complete bricked addition under the patio roof and deck. *** stated in her complaint that she informed me that they would be enclosing the patio to create a room later; however, I do not recall that conversationIn order to create this enclosure, the contractor for the room would have to use a jack hammer to remove the old patio slab, pour a foundation, frame walls and remove patio ceiling to insulate and wire the new enclosure. All that construction creates vibrations in the roof structure which could lead to cracks in the grout joints aboveAt the time of my first visit, the tile deck was in good shape with only or minor cracks in the grout. These could have quickly and easily been repaired, but *** was concerned about stain spots on the grout. The ***’s had Dunlap Construction use an additive called “The Tile Doctor Grout Admix”. We were not familiar with that product but used it to mix with the grout, rather than water, which is most commonly used. The ***’s were told by Floor & Décor that “The Tile Doctor Grout Admix” was supposed to seal the grout and prevent staining. *** wanted to have a “Tile Doctor” representative look at the stain problems*** and ***, my Office Manager, looked into the product further, yet we got no satisfaction from the representatives. The reps and manufacturers were not going to accept blame for their product and all we got was a run aroundOur tile installer and I went out a second time on or around 10/14/14, and checked the balcony deck. We observed that water would ooze out of the grout joints when walking on the tile. That was completely different from our initial visit and it was obvious that water had gotten through the grout to the Thinset adhesive under the tile*** then wanted me to contact the grout and Thinset reps to explain the problem. I knew we were wasting our time pursuing that route. Eventually, I called *** telling her as much and offered to furnish the labor to make the tile repairs. She told me she would have to discuss the matter with her husband and I never heard back from her one way or the other regarding their decisionOn 7/13/15, we received an email from *** stating she had water running through some can lights in her ceiling and leaving a residue on the windows. She further stated she was still researching on what to do, but never commented about the labor repairs that I had offered in our previous conversation on or about the end of October 2014. I’m sure she had a lot to deal with due to other issues at her home; however, the endless delay of the repairs has only made the problems worseI will still extend my offer to furnish the labor to repair or replace the tile work on their deck
