Review: A Mr. Stephenson from Dunlap tried to trick our school district into buying something by blatantly and repeatedly lying.

I received a call from a Mr. [redacted] (not sure of spelling) XXX-XXX-XXXX indicating he was responding regarding a request for a donation made from our school district by a previous Superintendent. He noted that he was the Vice President of Dunlap and handled donations to organizations such as schools. He seemed to know I was a new Superintendent to the district and said that a previous Superintendent had reached out to them for a donation of floor coverings for the gym floor. He then said he had an "over-run" on a production job for another job and had materials leftover that could fit our needs. He described three sections of 30' x 60' of gray "20 gauge" materials which could be used to cover our gym floor such that tables and things might be set up in there without damage to the floor. He noted that they had to seal the seams so they would lay flat and that he put a lot of extra labor into that. He noted the materials were newer than previous versions that weighed 300 lbs per section and that the udpated materials weighed 98 lbs. per section. He noted that the value of the materials was just under $15,000 and that the shipping for such items was around $4,000 of that total. He noted that he was even going to pay for the shipping as this was a donation. He then noted that the total cost was somewhat over his donation budget and that he would need a total payment from the school district of $2,400. When I mentioned I was new and did not know about the request for a donation from the district, but that I would check into it shortly and call him back, he noted that he was under some time constraints having already arranged for shipping, at some trouble to himself, so he urged me to get back to him as soon as possible.

This all seemed suspicious to me. No one here knew anything about it. The cost of materials (especially the shipping)seemed too high. I googled the company and found it. Then I called the number and asked for an estimate for three sheets of floor covering material. Surprise...it was $2,400, including shipping. Clearly the fellow had tried to scam me and the school district. I asked if the person I was talking to knew [redacted] and he indicated that he was a Vice President. I asked who the president or owner was and he said he did not know. I asked if he knew this Mr. [redacted] was acting unethically and potentially illegally. He indicated he was unaware of this. I then looked u the Revdex.com (you) in order to register a complaint. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of further help in this regard.Desired Settlement: I would like the Revdex.com to take some sort of putative or legal action against this individual and then, if this is a regular business practice, to take warranted action against the company as a whole. It seems that further investigation is warranted. I have never registered a Revdex.com complaint so I am not sure of the scope of your authority in such matters. Please feel free to contact me regarding this.
