I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear beI feel this was a very shoddy job The flashing you reused from the new roof install was not reapplied correctly You say the chimney brick should be periodically waterproofed and that you did the same work that was already there Tell me why then that in the years this house was owned by my paewnts the chimney never leaked and never had to b waterproofed
Regards,
*** ***

I am sorry that you feel you were ripped off. Over 3 years ago we fixed your chimney, and until this spring had not heard a word from you. The repairs that were done to your chimney included: the rebuild of exterior brick work, a new stainless steel liner system, a huge upgrade over what you had,...

that we got your insurance to cover, and the cover flashing, but not the base flashing that was done by the roofing company. 1. The exterior brick work was done to the same level of the previous chimney, which is all the insurance would cover. Meaning no upgraded waterproofing, no lifetime warrantied concrete crown, only a standard wash. Which do need some light maintenance from time to time just like all chimneys, including brand new chimneys built everyday by builders. 2. National Chimney organizations, as well as Insurance companies, and many other home maintenance organizations strongly recommend having your chimney inspected and cleaned every year. You told me that the renters that had lived there had used the chimney heavily, but we have not been back to service the system. I realize that the stainless steel system we installed doesn't get nearly as dirty as you previous system, but regular maintenance is require. Unfortunately these service runs are not free. 3. The cover flashing we do is only the flashing that you see attached to the chimney. There is 50% more flashing that is hidden under the roofing material that was installed by the roofer. This could be your source of leakage. Had you contacted us the first year with a problem we would have came out for free. After the 2nd year it should be completely expected that any service runs to inspect a chimney would have a cost. I would like to make note that at this point no proof exist that the leak is even in the chimney. It is only your speculation, it could be coming from the ridge line, or the roof area that butts up against the second level, or somewhere else. I came out to help you solve a water problem, I made suggestions to contact the roofing company, I think you said that was not possible. So I offered to do some flashing work, waterproof the brickwork, seal some hair line cracks in the wash. Like it or not I gave you prices at nearly 40% off our regular pricing. We go to 1 year old homes all the time that we make these exact recommendations. No builder waterproofs the chimney, all do simple mortar washes that do need some maintenance almost yearly. I'm sorry that's all the insurance will pay for. The flashing is just as much your roofers responsibility as it is mine. Once again I will state that where the water is getting in, has yet to be determined. We absolutely stand behind our work. Your brick work is not coming apart, your stainless liner is bulletproof and staying amazingly clean especially compared to what it looked like when we fixed it. And the flashing was not loose or coming apart. 3 and a half years later, no one would look at our work and say it was failing. My estimate was suggestions that we give to anyone with a unknown water issue, and it was discounted as a courtesy to you, even though you were not doing regular maintenance. Sorry again you feel ripped off. [redacted]

I did receive the check but have not cashed it. As [redacted] wrote they only paid half of what they paid for the remote. I was expecting full payment of what I paid, not 1/2 of what they paid. This is still not acceptable and view it as an insult. The check didn't come with a letter of any kind, no apology or explanation. It makes me feel like they paid the minimum amount they could hoping I would drop it. I has not been forgotten.
