With regard to the charge I processed the second charge which paid guests room in fullHe called and asked for an explanation as he did not want to be charged double for a deposit which I then explained his room was now
paid in full but if he wanted me to credit back the second night which I would have been more than happy to do he said no that was fine he just didn't want to be charged twice for a deposit and I assured him that wasn't the case and he was paid in fullWe did have the air conditioner on as it was over degrees that day and for all our guests comfort we kept the ac onIt is central air so no separate controls in roomIt is very hard to determine every guests comfort levelHad he contacted us we could have made some suggestions such as close his vent etcThe bed has a 3" temper pedic additional pad to aid in our guests comfort level which is impossible to bunchAgain personal comfort levelThere were four pillows to choose from for guests comfort levelThe clock radio was not working properly and has been replacedWe had no way of knowing unless contacted by guestWe do not have faulty smoke alarms as they are hard wired into the system and if it went off we would have knownIn no way does the train run every hour and a half all night longWhen it does run however by law it does have to blow it's horn at a crossingOur Inn is an Historic Landmark listed on the historic registerI've been an Innkeeper for over years and have never had a guest complaintAll of his complaints could have been addressed if he would have let us knowWe live on the premises and are there all the time when we have guestsWhen he checked in I showed him our door and to knock or call in case we don't hear the doorHe left after the first dayDidn't come down for breakfast which he did tell me as he was in town to judge a car show and they were serving breakfastI did not know he checked out until SundayHe left personal magazines in the room but also the key which I wasn't sure he forgotI had no reason to believe he was so disappointed and left until I got his emailSunday night which he went into extreme detail about his disappointment of our accommodationsI can honestly say I've never received such an emailI am sorry he wasn't happyHe is the only negative review we've received

Review: Durham House Inn accepted my two-night reservation and charged the first night to my credit card (March 9, 2014) as expected. However, they charged the balance due on my credit card (June 8, 2014) without notifying me and a full 90-days BEFORE my scheduled reservation. The primary reason for my complaint is the terrible experience I had that led me to leave after the first night's lodging: Very cold room (60 degrees); poor bed, poor pillows, clock-radio would not turn off, faulty smoke alarm, and freight-trains awakening me every 1-1/2 to 2 hours all night long.Desired Settlement: Refund of 2nd night's lodging would be fair because of the terrible experience.
