Response: The patient in question requested an appointment with DrMichele B***She initiallyrequested a short 15-minute introduction appointment and also provided DrB***'s office managerwith her insurance information and requested we look into her insurance benefitsAt that time,
herinsurance company reported she had a $copay and then 80/coverage for the office visitMs.*** *** was advised of her insurance coverage by phone the day before her appointmentOn theday of her appointment, she was told that DrB*** had an opening in her schedule and *** wastold she would have the option to change her appointment to a new patient appointment and thiswould entail billing her Insurance for the new patient 90-minute extended office visit
On 12/28/15, the patient was seen in our officeShe filled out the Adult Intake form, and signed theterms and conditions page, including consent to treatment and responsibility for paymentDrB***met with ***, and after roughly minutes into the appointment, DrB*** asked *** if shewanted to stay to continue the appointment and be seen as a new patient*** decided to stay andprovided DrB*** with a complete family and personal health history including hard copies of hermost recent medical records*** was seen by DrB*** for a total of minutes during which shewas given a full physical exam, assessment of her current condition, and treatment recommendations.*** never gave the impression she was unhappy with the appointment or expressed her desire toleave nor was she encouraged to stay against her wishesOnce the appointment was completed, theoffice manager made copies of the patient's previous medical records for her chart, as requested by***
At check out, the patient paid her $copay and purchased a supplement for $13, as recommended inthe treatment plan, for a total bill of $which was reflected on her invoice when the claim had beenprocessed at a later dateShe also requested to loan an Inspirational Cancer Video from DrB***'soffice library with the promise to return it at a later visit
When the video had not been returned after a few weeks, the office manager called the patient and wastold she was out of town and promised she would return the video when she came back within the nextfew weeksShe returned the video and left very quickly without providing any comment about herdissatisfaction with services she received at our clinic
On February 1st, our office was notified that the patient did not have insurance coverage for her visit on12/28/After numerous inquiries with her insurance provider, it was finally conveyed to the officethat her benefits had actually been inactive for that time periodOn 03/03/16, our office managerspoke with the patient, and *** stated she believed she did have coverage and was working to haveher insurance reinstated so the office visit would be coveredShe requested additional time to sort outher insurance situation and promised she would be in touch when she knew moreAgain, at no timewas there any discussion about dissatisfaction with services received at our clinic
On 04/14/our office manager called the patient to touch base and see what could be done to helpher with the outstanding balanceShe told her that she missed the window for having her insurancerenewed for that month because her mail had not been forwarded correctly from Maryland and shetherefore had no insurance for that time-frameThe patient also explained that because if this lapse,she also had an outstanding bill with another physician she saw in MarylandShe explained that shemissed the window for renewing Insurance with that carrier and was in the process of signing up for Medicaid
She was advised by DrB***'s office manager, that DrB*** was in network with one ofthe Medicaid networks and she was welcome to schedule another appointment when she had coverage.*** stated she understood that we would be sending a billDrB***'s office manager recalls***'s stating, "Go ahead and send me a bill, I'll have to figure out how to pay it." ENM's officemanager perceived *** to be genuinely gracious during this phone conversationAgain, at no timewas there any discussion about dissatisfaction with DrB*** or any services received at our clinic
On 04/18/16, DrB*** reduced the outstanding $balance (normally billed to insurance for thislevel of service and minus the $copay), to $195, a reduction of $This is the cash pay amount foranyone without insurance for a minute office visit in our officeThe invoice was mailed out to hercurrent address on 04/18/
On 04/21/the patient informed us that she had slandered our office and DrB*** on Google andother doctor review websites and had reported us to your agency for Insurance fraud and pursuit ofrevocation of the doctor's licenseShe stated she plans to continue slandering DrB*** and herclinic
At no point during any of the numerous contacts with ***, either in person or by phone, did she stateshe was unsatisfied with services she received from DrB*** nor did she make any other complaintsabout her interaction with Evergreen Natural Medicine (ENM)As is expected in most doctor's offices,when a patient requests an appointment, fills out all the appropriate new patient paperwork, arriveswith over pages of past medical documentation to be reviewed by one of our physicians, and staysfor an entire visit lasting minutes, that they intended for a patient/doctor relationship to beestablishedIt is our policy to make sure every patient has a pleasant and fruitful experience with us andhad we known she was unhappy, we would have made every attempt to rectify the issue amicably
Instead, *** has decided to make public several unfounded assertions about DrB***, hercharacter, her skills and abilities, as well as her clinic and staffIn order to resolve this matter, *** willneed to remove all remarks concerning DrB*** and her clinic from the internet, as well as retracther negative statements about DrMichele B*** and ENM to the Revdex.com and anyother companies, peoples, or organizations she has also spoken or written to concerning DrMicheleB*** and ENMIn addition, any future harmful or slanderous statements against DrB*** orEvergreen Natural Medicine will result in legal actionOnce this is agreed to and completed, ENM willdismiss the $due by the patient, with the understanding that she realize there is no wrongdoingfrom this office and she is no longer able to be seen at this clinic
Update 4/26/16*** *** called ENM and spoke with Deb D***, the office manager at ENM, to discuss her email.She now states that she did not want the appointment, and was just looking for a physician who couldwrite prescriptions and to work with her on her treatments as neededShe then used foul languagestating "I'm an award winning writer so don't*** with meThis could all go away if you zero out mybalance." She went on to insinuate that she lost her insurance coverage because she was billed by anOregon physicianThe office manager was very cordial as she tried to diffuse the situationAn emailnotification of our expectations for *** to cease and retract harmful statements about DrB***and Evergreen Natural Medicine will be provided to *** today with an opportunity to resolve thissituation
