Dynamic Auto Body Reviews (1)

I had unauthorized repairs done to my vehicle for which the business is requiring payment. No estimate was provided, even after I had asked to be contacted with one prior to any work being done. I had left my vehicle with them and after a couple if weeks I contacted them to inquire if they had an estimate ready and/or found the used parts they were looking for. I was informed that all of the repairs I had been waiting on an estimate for had already been completed. I am now expected to pay $2691.10 for work I had never agreed to nor would have approved. I have been in contact with them regarding this issue but unfortunately they are not willing to, in any way, resolve this situation and are now requesting immediate payment. I would not have approved this amount if I had been presented with the estimate prior to any services as is required by law.Product_Or_Service: auto repairDesired SettlementAs I never received any estimate, and therefore never approved any of the work done to my vehicle, I ask to stop being contacted for any payment. Business Response [redacted] was provided a verbal initial estimate at the time she brought the car in of $2200 plus tax. We were going to try to source a used door and see what attached parts might be included with the door. Her initial estimate was conducted on approx Feb 4/16 and she drove it home. The door was ordered the next day. She voluntarily dropped her car off the following week so we could get to repairing it when we could because she "didn't want to look at it anymore". She confirmed at that time that the repairs would be around $2000 and we said we'd have to compare the parts exactly. The door arrived and all parts matched but did not come with a mirror. We ordered the least expensive mirror available, bringing the final invoice to $2473.90. We have conformed to provincial labor rates and fairly priced all parts. She was upset with this increased price and left without paying anything. I followed up with her and offered to put her old mirror back on the car to reduce the amount owing to $2200. She asked to talk to the gentleman that she originally dealt with but he is on medical leave indefinitely. She also asked that I email her the invoice and that she would pay the $2200 in the meantime. I have not received payment and she will not respond to emails, phone calls or texts. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)[redacted]. There was no verbal initial estimate of $2200 +tax, or any amount, given when I first brought in my car. If there is paperwork dating Feb.4/16 to when an estimate was conducted, I never received it. The singular time in which any figure of any amount was ever spoken of to me was not in person, it was in the phone call mentioned below between [redacted] and I. I left my car at the business as I would rather not have to look at the damage that had been done to my car every day, but said not to do any work until I get an estimate. No amount of $2000, or any figure, was mentioned nor did I confirm any dollar amount then or at any point of future communication. [redacted] had said he would call me once he searches for parts available. He called and said the door and mirror required come separately and both brand new would be around $2700 which I immediately told him was too expensive. He then said that if he could find used parts it would likely be around $2200 to which I said was an improvement and possibly an option as new parts were not. He said to give him a few days to see what is available and he would let me know what my opotions are. I had said at that point to only look for used, even if it takes a few weeks, as new parts definately wouldn't be in my price range. I happened to be in town a few days later and stopped in to see what [redacted] had found or if there was an estimate ready. I was informed they had recieved a door that had not yet been unwrapped. [redacted] wasn't there and they weren't sure what he had ordered exactly so I said to get him to give me a call and let me know what he had found but not to do anything until I have an estimate. A couple weeks passed without any communication so I called to inquire. I had been told my car was done and just needed to be cleaned before I pick it up. I went in in person and spoke to [redacted] and voiced that I was extremely disappointed that no one had contacted me or given me an estimate and the $2691.10 that the total bill was was absolutely not an amount I was at any point OK with paying. He was very apologetic and said he would see if he could get the labor taken off or rework the numbers. He said to take the car and he will let me know what he can come up with. From that point on, [redacted] has been on sick leave and I have been only able to deal with [redacted]. We had a lengthy conversation shortly after in which she made it clear the price wasn't going to differ and she needed immediate payment. I had told her I never approved the amount or repairs to be done and the estimate she had in front of her, I never received, signed, or would have approved. She was unclear of the details of the situation (as it was [redacted] I had dealt with) but said he was unable to contact to try to clarify as he is on sick leave. She used reasons for this fixed total of "Its a fair market price , you can't get it done for less", "we can't give it away for free, this is what it costs", and that the numbers [redacted] and I had spoken about weren't possible or there must have been a misunderstanding. The fact of the matter is that I never authorized this work. I wasn't going to approve the work at such a high price if that's what was presented to me which is why I made a point of saying on each interaction to make sure I get an estimate before anything is done. [redacted]. I am still recieving phone calls and texts from [redacted] which I am asking to stop immediately. Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I was told I couldn't get an appointment for a few weeks as they were very busy but agreed to leave my car so it could be looked at whenever there was spare time instead. It was convenient for me as well to leave it there instead of arranging for rides from out of town. This happened the first time I stopped in prior to any parts being ordered or them even getting time to look over my car. This was in no way my permission to do any work they wanted which is why I asked for an estimate before starting any work on every communication. I was anticipating an estimate on paper presented to me to be signed for approval prior to any repairs being done as is the law. I had agreed on the phone that if the repairs totaled around $2200 it would be considered whereas $2700 was not an option for me. I did not approve anything but simply stated that looking for used parts was an option as new parts were not. The only thing I agreed to verbally was him searching for used parts. I did find another option elsewhere for much less that I was going to choose. I had mentioned this other option as a possibility in casual conversation with [redacted] and was going to decline the estimate once provided as this had now become available. All of this communication happened between [redacted] and I. While I am completely understanding that he isn't well and is unable to speak to, I won't continue on with untrue accounts from [redacted] as to what was said or occurred in a situation she was not part of. I am willing to pay the cost of the parts which ended up being installed which came to $791.69. I do not feel it is unreasonable for the business to cover the remainder to reach this compromise. Given the situation with errors in proper procedure and communication which resulted in work being done that wasn't going to be approved, I feel this is very fair. It is my only offer and ask that if agreed to, it is stated that the account is resolved and there is no further communication. Final Business Response Our offer of April 20th still stands. If parts are not returned during our regular business hours or the account in the amount of $2200 plus tax is not paid by May 13th, it will be taken as legal communication that you wish to remain in possession and obtain ownership of the requested and specified parts for VIN [redacted]: one used left front door shell plus associated automotive paint, one used left front door belt moulding, one used left front door handle plus associated automotive paint, one aftermarket left front door mirror, shop materials and associated labour.
