Charge for a roof repair estimate that was not authorized.I required a garage roof repair and the first week in May 2014 I called 10 different roofers. Dynamic Roofing indicated there was a charge of $99.00 and I said to Dynamic that I would call them back if I could not get anyone to come. I said to my wife why would I pay for an estimate when no one else charges. Two companies came out to view the roof. Later in May (between May 9 - 12)a truck drove in the yard and the driver said he was [redacted] from Dynamic Roofing and was here to do an estimate. I said to [redacted] that I did not recall requesting an estimate from Dynamic. He ([redacted]) said he had a work order. I did not equate the company to roofer that said he would charge as I had spoken to many companies as I also had another roof under construction. [redacted] looked at the garage roof. On May 20, 2014 at 5:00 Dynamic phoned and indicated a major repair job was required which included a railing and they not too interested. I indicated that I was also not interested in using their company. Later when I was reviewing my notes, I made the connection that Dynamic was company that said there was a charge. I said to my wife that they had not identified this when they came in the yard and I hoped they were not going to send a bill as I never called back or signed a work order. On May 27 I received a bill Invoice [redacted] dated May 22, 2014, in the mail. I phoned Dynamic and indicated that I never would have let [redacted] on the premises if he had identified that there was a charge and I had never asked them to come out. [redacted], [redacted]. I never asked them to come, I did not sign a work order, and I did not verbally approve a request to come out for an inspection. However I did unwittingly allow [redacted] on the property for the inspection as I did not connect [redacted] to the company that billed. On May 1, 2014 Dynamic Roofing Inc received a call from Mr [redacted] in regards to needing repairs done on his flat roof above his deck as he had leaking issues and the flat roof was attached to the garage. ( [redacted]). Mr [redacted] at the time was informed there is a $99.00 Inspection fee ( includes gas, mileage, inspector fee of any pictures or verbal/written reports) for our guy to come out and make a report for our repair department. In Mr [redacted] complaint he confirms that this conversation took place with the amount of the Inspection repair mans service fee for doing an Inspection of damages not the work its self. A flat fee if we come out there to inspect. WE are not estimating we are inspecting damages from customer for a repair job. It was on that day May 1st that Mr [redacted] wanted an Inspection order written up ( which is included ). [redacted]. If the customer is not home the Inspector leaves a card. [redacted] was having troubles with directions and he called and explained who he was and was given directions by Mr [redacted] on the phone how to get to his place. In this case Mr [redacted] was home at which time [redacted] presented himself in person as Dynamic Roofing and share that he was going to take pictures as thats part of the inspection and do a report. Mr [redacted] was very happy to see [redacted] and had informed [redacted] he had called many companies and was unsure exactly who he called. He allowed [redacted] to go up on Balcony and take pictures and had a very lengthy and nice conversation with [redacted] about how big of a repair job it would be. [redacted] presented his cost for doing the inspection to the office at which time Mr [redacted] was invoiced. [redacted]. Dynamic Roofing did not hear from Mr [redacted] after this Inspection to request the work be done. On May 20,2014 Dynamic Roofing received a call from Mr [redacted] the accounts payable personal whom took the call and explained his invoice to him. Mr [redacted] expressed he would not be paying the bill, but yes he was aware of the quoted price on the Inspection cost. He was not paying the invoice at all. [redacted] owner of Dynamic Roofing Inc called Mr [redacted] at approx 430 and explained the inspection cost and questioned that [redacted] had shared he was with Dynamic Roofing. Mr [redacted] acknowledged yes. [redacted] explained that he personally [redacted] had been the one Mr [redacted] had spoken to and he [redacted] very much informed that there was an Inspection cost and that Mr [redacted] at the time was in agreement that he needed the Inspection and that is when [redacted] contacted [redacted] to go out there as its out of town to fit in [redacted]'s schedule. Not often do we run into customers not wanting to pay bills but if we do then we enforce an action plan on retrieving the money that may result in collections. This is not a threat its our company policy when collecting accounts when a customer does not pay a bill. We allow 15 days for a customer to pay their outstanding bill but in Mr [redacted] case he informed us he will not be paying the bill so[redacted] just went thru the proper procedure with him. [redacted]. It is not our issue that Mr [redacted] got his companies confused. [redacted]Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)1. We had a flat roof leakage problem on a garage attached to a house. My son-in-law and I had repaired this roof about a decade ago and it required another repair. I felt that due to time constraints and age, I would hire a roofer.2. I phoned 10 roofers and of the ten, seven were not available as they were working on commercial projects. Two roofers indicated they would provide an estimate. One roofer's (Dynamic) employee, indicated there was a charge of $99.00. She did not differentiate between an estimate and an inspection nor did she provide any detail as charges for gas, mileage, pictures, etc as intimated in the response. As this charge surprised me, I said that I would call back if necessary. [redacted]3. I found two companies ([redacted]) willing to come and provide an estimate.4. I had five calls from unidentified cell phones asking for directions. The callers all indicated that they were from roofing companies looking for the farm. One caller phoned several times.5. "[redacted]" arrived and indicated he was from Dynamic. As this company was not one of the two roofers that I had marked down as available, I asked him how he got here. He showed me a work order with my name and Address (NO MENTION OF THE INSPECTION FEE). I did not recognize the company, but said since he was here, he may as well do the ESTIMATE.[redacted] In Summary: At no point in time did I request an inspection. As Dynamic was not on my list of potential roofers providing estimates, I did not equate them to the roofer with a fee when [redacted] arrived. I certainly did not require an inspection. [redacted].
