Carpet installers violated homeowner by accessing freezer, using microwave oven, eating my food and leaving debris behind. What else??
6/14/19: Carpet was installed in my home while I was away at work. Carpet installer used my lockbox to enter home. They went into my freezer, used microwave to cook pizza and then left debris on my counter. I don't know else they accessed in my home. I was horrified when I returned. The sales manager offered to pay for my pizza but they blew off my complaint and did not provide any other resolution to my issue.

Desired Outcome

Discount or price reduction of product purchase would have been good but they never offered. They did offer to pay for my pizza. Unbelievable?! I sent a picture pf the remnants of debris left behind to the salesman.

I would like to extend my utmost apologies to you! This is appalling behavior. We are given access by the owner/renter to homes to provide professional service to you, our customer. As we are a sales and service company, we have a strict policy to respect our customers privacy and property in addition to their trust in our exceptional professional services. This is clearly a violation of those policies. As we were also unaware of the added insult by the salesman (not sales mgr) to such a violation, we would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. We would like to honor a reprieve and extend compensation to you for the behavior of these past employees actions. It was unacceptable behavior and I am sorry you were not treated with trust and respect. Please look for us to contact you.

E & W Carpets would not fulfill a contract for services as stated on the contract.
Kevin B. of E & W Carpets at *** Blvd, Lutz, FL, came to my home to measure for a project wherein I wanted to level a badly sloping floor. The existing wood floor was in excellent condition with no structural damage of any kind, other than the obvious slope. I told Kevin that the room was a result of a garage conversion.

I explained emphatically that this was a leveling project - the only reason for the project was to level the badly sloped floor. He measured for square footage and left.

He emailed me an estimate to rip out the floor, level it, and install new carpet. We agreed on a total cost of $1772.65. On August 21, 2017 I went to E & W Carpets to meet with Kevin B. and sign the contract. The total cost for the project as listed in the contract was consistent with his initial estimate, with the addition of $90.09 for an upgraded carpet pad. I paid with my Citibank Mastercard.

Demolition was in performed early October. On October 9 Kevin B. called me to schedule the work on the actual leveling phase, and we set a date for work to begin Friday at 10:00. He called me 15 minutes later to add that the project would need 30 bags of leveling compound at $25 per bag for a total cost of $750. This surprise was an almost 45% increase in the project cost.

E & W Carpets claimed the contract to level my visibly sloping floor did not include the cost of even a basic quantity of compound (despite including a line stating that "leveling" would cost $507.50.

We spoke for about 20 minutes with no resolution. He suggested they could simply lay the carpet down and move forward. I said the floor would still be sloping, and that would still leave me with less than I had before they ripped out the floor. I'd still have a badly sloping floor, but I would have to pay for the demolition labor and the carpet cost!

A few days later, I went in to E & W Carpets, Inc. to speak with the manager, Chad W.. Chad explained how he would have measured the slope if HE had come out instead of Kevin, and even boasted how he would have done things differently. Chad said Kevin DID estimate cost of leveler, but later changed and said he hadn't.

Chad said they would get a second opinion. He also said he wanted to come to my house to see the floor for himself. He never did. He should have verified measurements before even starting the project. The slope was obvious. Certainly the slope would not have decreased after wood removal, so even a basic quantity of leveling compound should have been foreseen.

Days later, according to Kevin Barnes, the second contractor said we would need only 15 bags, for an additional cost of $450. Unhappy but under pressure from my son not having a usable bedroom, I offered to meet them halfway by increasing my contracted cost to $2000 total, but E & W Carpets refused.

Instead, I was emailed an altered copy of the original contract that I had signed in August with $450 written in as a new line and with our prior contracted total cost crossed out and replaced with $2222.68. I never agreed to this additional amount or the new total, since it was my understanding that leveling compound was included in the contract already.

In short, E & W Carpets agreed to level my floor at a stated price, ripped up my floor, then, once they effectively had my son's bedroom held hostage, asked me to pay them an additional $450 and doctored our contract to support their claim.

They now have the total deposit I paid of $886.34, which they state is the cost of labor, plus "re-stocking fees" for the carpet they'd ordered since I had chosen to cancel the contract.

I'd like it to be clear that I never canceled our contract, and I NEVER signed the altered contract! I'm not sure this is illegal, but it definitely doesn't represent the facts. I have copies of all original documentation.

While I will still be left with a bare concrete floor, I am requesting a full refund of my deposit amount.

Thank you for your help.

Desired Outcome

While I would like the job to be completed at the contracted price, I can't trust E & W Carpets to perform to a professional standard now. Nor do I feel I can do business with them. I wouldn't be confident that I was getting the same level of materials and service necessary to complete the job, since they didn't want to compromise with me in the first place, and might feel disgruntled if told to do so. I will need to seek out another company to do my project. I have no idea if this might cost more or less, but it must be done nonetheless. If it's too expensive, I may simply have a carpet installed for now. This is depressing. This has been an extremely stressful ordeal for me. We are planning to sell our house and move in the next few months, and so much has been on hold until this can be resolved. I initially filed a dispute with my Citibank Mastercard. While they agreed with me, I was told E & W Carpets would not honor their request to give me full credit. I have documentation of that, as well. At the very least, I'm requesting a full refund of my total deposit of $886.34. Thank you for your help.

This reply was taken verbally by Revdex.com:

The customer cancelled the contract. When we went to do the job and tore up the floor it was found that the customer's floor needed to be leveled. The customer did not want to pay extra for this. We did inform the customer that per the terms of of the contract that there would be a restocking fee so no refund is due to the customer.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I never canceled the contract or job. In fact, more evidence that Kevin B. and E & W Carpets are not telling the truth is the contract itself. He says in his response that they determined that the floor would need leveling after they tore up the existing wood floor.

However, the original, valid contract, written long before any work was initiated, actually has "Leveling" written on it with the quote, since that was the main reason I wanted this job done.

I forwarded copies of the real and forged contracts yesterday, March 19. If you me to resend it, just let me know.

Thank you.

After looking at several businesses for tile we considered E&W the company we wanted to work with. They helped us look at their different possibilities of tile that would work in our kitchen. After measuring the area and given the cost we decided on this company. They provided the men who laid the tile and they were great!!! We were pleased with the outcome. and would suggest them to anyone.
