August 10, 2016Revdex.comE 4" Suite Cincinnati, Ohio Attn: *** ***RE: ID ***The consumer purchased the wood from some other supplier, we did not sell her this woodThe quality of unfinished wood the consumer purchased was cabin grade or tavern grade ratingConsumer did not
disclose this factThe job was based on installing sq.ftBy the time the installers had gone thru over half of the wood, it was obvious that they were not going to get enough good quality wood to do the installationConsumer was notified of thisAlso after the installers went thru the wood, the wood that was not worth putting in was neatly stacked for the consumer, which took a good deal of time.During the installation process the consumer changed her mind on several items, and the process was adjusted to accommodate herThe job took less than two week not four monthsAfter installation the consumer had us come back and take care of a few concerns with the promise that a check would followAfter several return trips we ask for paymentUnfinished wood is sanded, stained, and polyurethane is appliedThe wood will have a finish look that reflects the quality of the woodThere are different grades of wood, premium, select, common, cabin grade, or tavern gradeThe finished wood only reflects the quality that is installedThere are many reasons why different quality’s are used depending on the finish look the consumer is looking for.We had many discussions with the consumer during the whole process and several bids were given because the consumer changed her mind from the original bid to the last bidRepresentatives of our company made several trips to the home and walked the job with the consumerOn the last walk thru the consumer agreed to pay the invoice after we complied with a few more request. We felt that the consumer was satisfied with the job, we made several return trips and once the job was completed we received payment for the work Had we known prior to the installation the poor quality of wood we were dealing with, and the amount of wood we would have to go thru to get good product, we would have declined to bid on the work or charged more for our time and laborWe did our best and in the end, after walking the job with the consumer, we felt consumer was satisfiedCustomer was not threatened with a lien.Thank youTerri F* Earl Franks & Sons

We installed toe strip in customers home using a finishing nail, which is a very small thin nail. The customer called us at a point and said the cable people found that we had nailed into their cable. The cable man refused to remove the nail that was in the cable, according to
customer. We sent installer out to remove the toe strip and the small finishing nail. Customer wanted to know what we were going to do to fix the cable. We told her we are flooring people not cable people. We also told her that the cable was run improperly in that we should not have hit any cable or wiring by just installing toe strip. I don't know who ran the cable, as flooring people there is no way for us to know that wires are that close to baseboards or toe strip. The cable people should be able to fix the problem, I don't believe an electrician is required for the problem

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Kirk M*** (Estimator), from Early Franks & Sons, bid this job after coming to my residence He measured the areas for install and inspected the wood to be installed, which was already at my residence There was over sq ft of wood provided for installation for the sq ft job, there was plenty of wood to choose from and to choose the prime boards for the installationKIrk M*** was told that waste was needed for the job as I had no use for the leftover. The grade of wood was only discussed after the installers had laid several sq feet in the living room, as I was leaving the residence and would not be there for the rest of the install It was recommended by Kirk M***, to leave the residence during the installation due to dust, noise and fumes from the polyurethane The discussion on the grade of wood was done when the color of stain was being chosen I stated to the installer then, that the natural knots and color variation of the wood was not an issue and I liked that rustic look, but the knots needed to be filled to become flush and full with the rest of the board I was assured this would be done and was common practice with unfinished hardwood The knots that they chose to fill, were filled with a color that was not even in the wood and finished abstract from the rest of the floor In addition, the knots filled were the smaller ones and they left the larger ones unfilled This was confirmed by both Kirk M*** and Jude F* (Owner) of Earl Franks & Sons, after I requested they look at the actual install At this time, they also confirmed there were boards put down that should not have been and divots from their sander that needed to be resanded and fixed.I stated I wanted the job done as it should have been done from the beginning, not a random patch, cover up fix There had been countless discussions with Jude F* to try and work this out, with no resolution and I stated I wanted to have another company finish the floors, as they should be I would short the invoice the expense for doing this and Earl Franks & Sons would be completeJude F* did not like this and he then stated he would put a a lien on my property This was done on a three party conference call, as now a witness was brought in since Jude F* would not discuss anything via email or text, only telephone conversations. To try and get this job over with, without a lien on my property, I agreed for the installers to come back, remove the bright tan product they filled some of the knots with, fill the knots that should be filled, stain the filled knots a dark color like the actual knot, fix the divots from the original sanding, do a rough sand of the existing polyurethane and then apply another coat of polyurethane The end result was just as poor as the initial Several knots were left unfilled, the knots filled were again a different color then the wood and not filled flush with the floor and the divots were untouched With the threat of a lien on my property, I called Jude F* for a final invoice, as I did not have documentation of the the actual end "bill" I also stated to Jude F* that I was not at all satisfied with the job done and the work was not of a professional I was emailed a "final invoice", which was also not correct Material not used was was still charged and additional material that was added, during installation was overstated The installers, stated they added feet of toe strip to the upstairs hallway, which was not on the bid I emailed Kirk M*** on July 2006,the builder blueprints of my home I pointed out to him that feet was impossible and the actual measurement was ft maximum I was invoiced for 3o feet and the $2,invoice was reduced by $20.00.In summary to Terri F* response: The grade of wood was never discussed prior to the install or acceptance of the bidThe wood was inspected by Kirk M*** prior to the writing of Early Franks & Sons bid If half of the wood was gone over, that would have been right at sq ft, which would have been the complete install There was 1/of the the wood not touched and still stacked, in factory sealed bundles from the pallet/manufacturer, sitting in my kitchen, along with good boards left and cut loose from other bundles I was fine with the look of the wood, however the knots were to be finished as agreed and were notTwo timesHaul off of material was never provided as an option of any leftover wood I requested the bid be broken down per process versus one lump sum dollar amount When I was able to find items cheaper by 50% elsewhere, I had them removed from initial bid Specifically (2) vent covers In addition, from the initial bid I was not sure if I was going to have the stairs or upstairs hallway done, this was also stated to Kirk M*** When I asked for the breakdown of bid per area and saw what I was being overcharged, I had the stairs removed The true material cost was less then $vs $as stated on bidPer their bid, the labor broke down to over $an hour The initial bid was received April 4, 2016, I was still talking with Jude F* on June 24, on getting the job complete A "final invoice" was received July This is months, not and certainly not days as originally stated The quality of wood is irrelevant to the quality of the finished product for this job The facts are that the installers did not fill the knots, sand the floor evenly, stain the knots the same/similar color as the wood, pull prime boards from the excess of sq ft of wood provided and redo the process as promised in its entiretythese facts as agreed up on the acceptance of the bid are relevant and if the agreed processes were completed, the finished look would be acceptable They were not The job was "walked" one time by myself, Kirk M*** and Jude F* There was never a "last walk through" and I was never satisfied with the job and have documentation supporting this I was threatened with a Lien on my residence by Jude F* and have a witness to support this. This company has not addressed the issues of this dispute I have stated above, why they have not addressed the issues of dispute. The company has not me the agreement as outlined in the response, as actions taken to correct the poor install were not done as agreed Thank you

[redacted] told us it’s not unusual at all for cable to be tucked behind carpet or baseboards. The sub contractor who performed the work was negligent and has left our floor a mess after they came out and tore up the work he had done. This is ridiculous. Earl Frank’s told my wife that they are not concerned with the Revdex.com when informed of a forthcoming complaint. I’ll enclose pictures. The cable under the wall is clearly visible.
