I agree with the customer that I have had this clock a long time. This happens now and then due to my backlog. I rarely call customers unless I have an update for them.
This clock was damaged due to the fact that a battery was left in too long and the acid destroyed the movement. I like to replace parts with original but this one is now obsolete. I had a problem like this before and I used an updated version of a chime mechanism and the sound was different and the customer was upset. Instead of giving up on the job I checked frequently with aftermarket suppliers and they were of no help.
The movements in production today are pricey, in my opinion the final product would cost more than the value of the clock.
I wrote to the customer explaining this and told them I would put the clock together and get it back to them next week;

Hello
I have been a clockmaker for 30 years. Most of the time I run...

a backlog which means I am behind on work. In my shop I rebuild clocks . Once in a while a job comes along that needs parts that are now obsolete. We spend a lot of time on secondary markets trying to find what we need. I specialize in cuckoo clock repair because most shops will not repair them.  Modern clocks are not made with the quality they were in the past and as such do not have a long life expectancy. Movements are put onto the market and become obsolete shortly after because of design flaws. In any case a clock may be in my shop for some time until a solution can be found.
I returned the customers clock with my apologies.

I would avoid this company at all costs. They misprepresented the time that it took to repair my cuckoo clock and then when it was "repaired," it still did not work properly. East Coast Clock Repair had my cuckoo clock for 6 months. I made countless calls to find out when it would be ready and was consistently told "2 weeks." I was directed to call the owner's sister who would then contact the owner and call me back. This was inefficient and she was quite rude so after 4 months, I told her that I would only talk to Steve, the owner. I paid 450.00 to have the clock repaired and when I got it home, it did not work properly. The clock used to have 2 songs that it played on the hour and half hour. Now it only had 1 song played on the hour. The cuckoo bird gets stuck open and the music box makes a metallic sound when it switches off. My receipt was very vague so I really couldn't tell what had been done. I ended up taking it to another clock repair place who told me that some of what was on the receipt had not been done. Honestly, I should call and demand my money back, but the check has been cashed and I really don't want to talk to Steve or his sister again. It was a horrible experience and I wouldn't want anyone else to have to go through this!

They have had my grandmother's antique clock since February 2, 2015 and it is now August 21, 2015 and I haven't received my clock back after requesting them to send it back asap. I've called multiple times with no response. They are crooks

Review: I became aware of East Coast Clock Repair thru their web site and called to inquire about the repair of my" Schatz Royal Mariner Ships Bell clock"They agreed to accept the clock but after receiving it and evaluating it's condition ,informed me that they could not repair it but did state that they would agree to retain it and continue to search for the needed parts..if and when the parts were found, they would repair the clock..there was an agreement that the total cost would not exceed $After a few months I received a phone call from them stating that the repairs had been made and the clock was ready to be returned to meThe total charges were stated to be $ 550,,I agreed to that and sent them a check for the stated charges plus $shipping..days later I called to see if the repaired clock had been sent to me..I was told thatasmall problem had bee discovered in the striking mechanism and there would be a slight delay while that was being repaired....I have not been able to contact the business in the past to weeks..A telephone call connects only with a recorded msge stating the hrs of the business...Desired Settlement: I want a total refund of the amount of the check I sent ($575) and return of my clock

I am rejecting this response because East Coast Clock Repair has had my clock and my check long enough to have repared it multiple times..he has my check which I sent to him because I was told that
it was repairedIf furhter workis required..that work should be given priority until the problem is solved...if the problem can't be corrected I believe my clock and my check should be returned to me as is...I don't believe what I was told about the "problems "...I believe I am being swindled...I want my clock and a refund of the payment I made to East Coast Clock Repair

Review: Can you help me get my Black Forest cuckoo clock back from this repair shop? On June 20, 2012, I gave my cuckoo clock to Mr Steve S[redacted] the owner of the shop for repair. In December 2012, I was told that the clock was of no value and would cost about $400 to repair. The clock has great sentimental value to our family since we bought it in 1982 while we were assigned in Germany. My wife and I decided to have the clock repaired and informed Mr S[redacted] of that decision. Since that date I have tried at least three times to get some information from Mr S[redacted] on the status of the repair. These attempts included telephone calls, e-mail, and finally a certified mail letter. Each time we reached Mr. S[redacted] he informed us that he was working on the clock and would need more time. In July of this year I called again and this time Mr S[redacted] said that my clock was a 'piece of crap' and he would not fix it. I told him that I would pick the clock up, but he then told me that he had to put it back together. I asked for a date that the clock would be ready for pick up. He told me that he would get back to me with that information. It is now September 15th and I have heard nothing from Mr S[redacted].Desired Settlement: Please get our clock back. We would prefer that it be put back together; but as long as we get ALL of the clock and its pieces, we will be satisfied.
