I am [redacted] ,General Manager of Alutech United DBA East Coast Shutters & Awnings. This customer, called on May 11th as their year old awnings' remote control was no longr workingThe relay box th.at receives the radio signal was replaced with new.The old anemometer system is nolonger available -so that was explained to the customerNew technology using motion sensors were now available and compatible with remote reeiver.6/customer calls and orders motion sensor. For a motion sensor to retract the awningthe awning must be shaken semi vigorously by the motion of the wind. There is no grantee that this is fool proof. We explained that one should not leave the awning out and go shopping or take a trip.Tuesday July 21st the clouds grew dark at approximately high noonThen a sudden downpour of rainIwas returning from lunch not far from the homeowner's home at that time NOAA reported 2.01inof rain that day. When Mr[redacted] called from his office in Virginia that His wife had left the awning out while she was on errands, and the wind sensor must not haveworked because the awning was now broken. Thus Mr [redacted] said we were responsible for all damages to his awning.Iexplained that if an awning fills up with rain water and the weight causes it to break he motion sensor never received any real motion from -the wind. That the sheer weight of the water was most likely the culpritThis event was obviously an act of God and was not a wind event but a serious down pourIthen suggested he contact his insurance company. This again was an Awning of some age alreadyIsaid we could not be held responsible for an act of GodHad He purchased this entire awning from us years ago he would have found such language in our warrantee However,he did not purchase the awn ing from us only called us for service and parts

Then a sudden downpour of rain. Iwas returning from lunch not far from the homeowner's home at that time.  NOAA reported 2.01in. of rain that day. When Mr.[redacted] called from his office in Virginia that His wife had left the awning out while she was on errands, and the wind sensor must not haveworked because the awning was now broken. Thus Mr. [redacted] said we were responsible for all damages to his awning.Iexplained that if an awning fills up with rain water and the weight causes it to break  he motion sensor never received any real motion from -the wind. That the sheer weight of the water was most likely the culprit. This event was obviously an act of God and was not a wind event but a serious down pour. Ithen suggested he contact his insurance company. This again was an Awning of some age already. Isaid we could not be held responsible for an act of God. Had He purchased this entire awning from us years ago he would have found such language in our warrantee . However,he did not purchase the awn ing from us only called us for service and parts.

Review: We just recently (within 3 weeks) had an install of an auto retraction system for the awning in case of a storm or wind by this company. The system did not retract as advertised and now our awning is completely destroyed due to wind. I contacted them today and basically what they said was "too bad", we will not fix it and if the remote did not work, it is not our problem, we just install them and do not guarantee them. We were under the impression for the money we spent, the system would be guarantee and at least work..Desired Settlement: We would like to have our awning mechanism repaired, the sensor replaced and make sure that the entire system is working properly.
