East Main Rides Reviews (2)

Review: I purchased a truck from them on an [redacted] auction. I was told by the dealer [redacted] on the phone and stated in the auction there was "No Known Defects". It would be Virginia State inspected in order for him to sell it as a dealer. He has his own work bays and knew there were severe problems with this truck and advertised it for sale anyway. We drove 180 miles one way and picked it up. We had to wait because the inspection was supposedly being done while we were there. When the vehicle got back there I briefly looked it over and listened the engine for noises. He was paid in cash as requested. I proceeded to drive back home to [redacted]. When I got on the ramp to Interstate 77 and sped up to blend into traffic the truck started shaking and bouncing violently and ripped the steering wheel out of my hand while I was shifting. I lost control and almost hit the guide rail and another car. I got off the interstate as soon as I could, parked and started looking for what ever the problem was. When I looked under the front there was no shock absorbers, or any sway bar on the truck. There were no rear shock absorbers either. I immediately called him and told him I was going to bring the truck back because it was not safe to drive. His response was "Don't Bring It Back Here". He then told me if I drove the truck over 65 it would get better. I already knew I wasn't about to try that. He admitted there was an issue with it and thought the idler replacement cured it. Obviously it was never driven at speed after that repair. The truck would have never passed a legal inspection. The Virginia State Police have examined it and have filed charges against the inspection station. I have copies from them also. Additional issues that were found: No Horns, No right directional or brake light, No 4 way flashers, ABS light on, Wipers not working, Missing heater motor, Missing emission parts, Missing lug nuts. Right front brake is metal to metal. With all of this I cannot ever get it inspected here in [redacted] without major repair.Desired Settlement: $1,000.00 to help cover cost of parts and labor in attempt to make it inspection passible and road worthy or take it back with a full refund in cash like you wanted to get paid....

Response:

first of all he bought a 15000 dollar fully customized truck he knew it had been customized with a fabricated frame, air bags. etc. he bought it sight unseen on an [redacted] auction. Then he came and paid for the his truck just like he was supposed to, and he bought it AS IS with no warranty. I really don't understand what the problem is?

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I called the dealer ([redacted]) on the phone before even bidding on it on [redacted]. I asked many questions and thought I received honest answers. I was also told it would be newly state inspected because it could not be sold without one by a Virginia dealer. I had no idea then, or after paying for the truck that it was unsafe to drive and not legally inspected. After the purchase I called to make arrangements to pick it up. I was then told that the glass sunroof had been broken and had a piece of Plexiglas was covering the hole. I wasn't very happy with that but accepted it. First of all no one sells a vehicle worth $15,000 for $4,000. In the [redacted] auction description he states " this vehicle has no known defects". Just having the Anti-Lock Brake Light on in the dash is a safety defect in Virginia. The truck would not have passed inspection. All of the other defects, missing parts and emissions issues were under the outside shell. He knew the truck had a severe shake in the front because he drove it and told me it was "Better Over 65 Miles Per Hour". After almost wrecking it entering the Interstate 77 and having a severe bouncing from lane to lane at 55 miles per hour I would have never gone faster. I had to title the truck here in [redacted] and I have to have it re-inspected at a [redacted] State Inspection facility. The truck has missing and defective emission parts and many other safety issue's beyond listed in the police report. It is very possible due to the age of the truck and parts availability that it will never pass inspection. That and the cost to try to do that is my issue with you and my problem is... This truck was way beyond "AS IS" when you bought it and should have never been offered for sale to any retail customer... It is a parts truck and I don't own a junkyard...

Here is a copy of the Virginia State Police inspection report. Here is also the troopers information if you would like to contact him.Trooper [redacted] ###-###-#### and[redacted] I trailered the purchased truck back to Virginia and met the trooper at an independent garage at [redacted] where he inspected the truck. I had to title it within 30 days here in [redacted] and have to have it re-inspected by January 31, 2015 at a [redacted] State Inspection Facility. There are both Safety and Emissions inspections here. The truck is missing and has defective emissions parts and many other safety issues listed in the police report. It is very possible due to the age of the truck and parts available now that it will never pass inspection. Without it passing inspection I have to turn in the license plates making the truck useless. Prior to placing a bid on this truck on [redacted] I spoke to the dealer about it and asked many questions. In the [redacted] auction description is says “ This vehicle has no known defects”. Just having the anti-lock brake light light on in the dash was already a defect. Without looking any further. I will respond to the Revdex.com site as soon as possible... [redacted].

here are some of the pictures he had to go by to buy this vehicle. anyone looking at these pictures should know what they are buying and 4000 dollars would be a steal for this the paint job would cost more than he paid for the truck. the [redacted] description plainly said this Is a " SHOW TRUCK" meaning its ready for car shows.

For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Regards,[redacted] The description "Show Truck" does not make any vehicle unsafe for driving on a road. The owner or any representative of this dealership had to know when the "ABS" Light in the dashboard stayed "on" that this truck would not pass Virginia State Motor Vehicle Inspection and could not be sold. It should have never been even offered for sale to any retail purchaser. The list of many other safety issues is in the Virginia State Police report. The Virginia Revdex.com has a copy.
