Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

[Your Answer Here]
Yes,  I've received an email from customer service right after going to Revdex.com. While easyroommate finally responded to my emails,  the link they provided me to report my Internet fraud was for the UK and I clearly contacted the U.S. customer service representative.  When explaining that I needed to the u.s. link instead,  I received no response.  I was not told that there will be an investigation, this is news to me. I have no status or update on where the investigation is.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Review: A lady by name [redacted] who claims to be a British citizen but living in New York and currently schooling in UK contacted to rent me a room on her [redacted] Apartment. I paid her $1500.00 plus $110.00 [redacted] money transfer fee and $100.00 loan interest I incurred to for a loan to pay the said [redacted]. Total Amount$1,810.00. She could not honor the promise and has refused to refund my money though, she promised to refund the money. Though, [redacted] has confirmed that she me me at Easyroommate.com, Easyroomate has no record of the said [redacted] nor have an idea of the location or existence of the said Apartment when contacted. Easyroommate has refused to respond to the complaint I lodged with them though they sent an email message to confirm that they will respond within 48 hours.Desired Settlement: 1. Easyroomate must be forced to know the identity of the people who advertise their products in their website.

2. The need to verify for the existence of the rooms advertised for and the proof that the person advertizing for the room is the rightful occupant or the owner of the room or the apartment.

3 Easyroommate should be bound from business if they refuse to comply with the above directives.

4. Easyroommate has to pay a penalty of the lost amount times 5 for any scam on the website.

Response:

Dear

[redacted], I am so sorry to hear what has happened to you.

We take our Members safety to heart and in an attempt to prevent them

from being scammed, we have a strict moderation process in action: we moderate

each and every single account as well as listing that is posted on the site. We

have teams dedicated to this purpose and even when a fraudulent user

is able to post on the site, we have ways to track them down and stop them as

soon as possible.

On every profile on the site, we have a notice to remind our Members of

the dangers of making payments via international transfers (such as [redacted] and the likes). Should they come across a suspicious profile

or feel uneasy about another Member and wish to have more information on the

subject, they are able to access our Email Scam page

through our "Help&Advice"

section (available from anywhere on the site). Should they feel the need to, a

profile can be flagged to bring it to the attention of our moderation team who

will then investigate the account. Alternatively, they can contact us for

advice, which is the path you took.

When you wrote to me, you mentioned that you were about to make a

payment via [redacted] to someone you've been in touch with on the site. As

you know we strongly advise against making payments without having physically

met the landlord and visited the place.

In a desire to offer our Members a safe and secure experience, we

provide an internal messaging system allowing them to communicate without

having to share their private contact information (email address or phone

number). Should a conversation with another user sound suspicious, you are able

to flag their profile as mentioned earlier and we would be able to locate it

immediately. Since the exchange between you and "[redacted]" did not happen

on the site, I was not able to find that account to take the appropriate

action.

As such, if you were able to send an email to [redacted]

with all the details you may have in regards to that person (their name on the

site, Listing ID, the email address they've contacted you with, a phone number

they may have given you, the names they've given you, or any other material you

believe may help me in my investigation), I would be very grateful since it

would allow me to make sure that we have removed that person from the site,

preventing them to make more victims.

Furthermore, I would advise you to lodge a complaint with a police

station and should they get in touch with us, we will gladly take the necessary

steps to help them in their investigation.

Should you have any question or ever need help on the site, please do

not hesitate to send me your phone number and I will call you at your earliest

convenience.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Thank you for the response of Easyroommate.com. Easyroommate.com must know that the case in point is bigger than [redacted] as an individual paying [redacted] $1610.00 out of which $110.00 is the money transfer fee plus additional $100.00 being the DHL fee for sending plus $100.00 interest I paid for added borrowed money the room key to me. In all I am expecting $1810.00 plus a penalty from [redacted] which she has never denied as the money she has to transfer to me. Easyrooommate.com did caution me all right not to pay money through [redacted] Money transfer. That is just a tip of the ice-beg. What about if I did not contact them before I made the payment? How many people will even contact Easyroommate.com before making payment when they are happy to have found what they want?

If I had not made the payment how would we have known that the Easyroommate.com’s website is a recipe for scam and disaster? I would like Easyroommate to admit that their website is too loose to invite scammers in and the earlier they change by putting up safety mechanism the better it is for both client and Easyroommate.com’s management. I would also like to reiterate to Easyroommate.com’s management that I am not seeking for my selfish interest in this case, but instead, I am looking at the bigger picture to save the general public from being victims of scam and I will go to every extent to make sure that Easyroommate.com is minimal of risky intruders and for that matter scammers if only Easyroommate.com would like to exist as a website; otherwise it needs to be closed down simply it is becoming obnoxious for the general public. I do not think evil of Easyroommate.com since if it is well organize can alleviate the plight of many who cannot afford a complete apartment to find an accommodation. This notwithstanding, Easyroommate.com cannot open its door ajar for any Tom and Harry to put up deceptive advert only to defraud the general and innocent public.

With this case, I will also plead with Easyroommate.com not to lie to safe their face that I did not meet [redacted] at the Easyroommate website because it will be a big disgrace to them and worsen their case since my intelligent work has made [redacted] confess where I met her. Reference: November [redacted], November [redacted], November [redacted] email conversation. Also take note of her November [redacted] email conversation. (I have already forwarded all the email conversation between me and [redacted] to Revdex.com to be forwarded to Easyroommate.com for their perusal). [redacted] has admitted our point of meeting there. She even said in one of those email conversation that she was sending the room/flat back to the advert to find money in order to refund my money to me. I believe sincerely that [redacted] might have dupe other people by now with under different name. This is the problem I want us to avoid and I will tell you how to solve it. For my money I need it back either from [redacted] or Easyroommate.com if they cannot find the culprits: [redacted] and, or her accomplices. In the November [redacted], 2013 email message received from [redacted], I bait her that I was interested in the room again. This is because she was not responding to my email messages. However, just after I have baited her the following day she responded to my email message that she I should bring more money through [redacted] money transfer. This is a clear indication that, [redacted] business is duping people and not only her but there are more of such people in the system who reap where they have not sown. Though, the contracted is yet to be materialized, I have already opted out of it after I detected that there is a fishy deal in her behavior. Fortunately, she has agreed to refund the money but I have realized that she is only paying lip services to buy time.

As an insider, I have observed that Easyroommate.com do not have mechanism to vet all those people who put up their adverts on the site neither do they known the validity of the existence of the property being advertised on the website. If there is an effective mechanism such as the doctrine of moral Suasion and Restrictive Covenant, a financial tool use by all the financial institutions in lending loan to their customers. If easyroommate.com can adopt these financial tools they would be able to know:

1. The identity of any client who be it a landlord or a tenant who comes there to transact business even if there client changes his/her name after the advertisement on the website. It will stop Easyroommate.com from the reactive defense of throwing dust into the eyes of their client by defending their position mischievously at the detriment of clients that a transaction did not take place at their website which keeps on perpetuating harboring the activities of the scammers at the Easyroommate.com.

2. It will help them to know whether the product and or service advertised at the website exist and the advertiser is the bona fide owner or legal custodian of the property and or the service. Clients will be convinced that Easyroommate.com has found out and inspected the place.

By just expecting clients to go and read about scam hints and advice is not enough to reduce it to the minimal let alone to eradicate it.

With regards to the police report, the case is already at the State Attorney General’ Office and I will send your response there and the contact information of Revdex.com for them to contact you whenever the need arises. For your information, I have reported this case with [redacted] Money TRANSFERS head office and according to them; they have information at the receiving end of the money transferred to (Mrs) [redacted]). The case number is [redacted]. They are ready to release the information to Intelligence Agents. If you care to find out, you can call the office to find out.

Attached is the email message of the series of communication I have had with [redacted] with regards to the rental.

I will be waiting patiently for the decision Butter Business Bureau and Easyroommate will take in conjunction with the State Attorney General Internet Bureau’s Department.

Review: I signed up for this service, and have attempted to unsubscribe from the service as soon as I found out it was partly a scam. I clicked the unsubscribe button, but it did not take. I tried this on several occasions. I emailed the service directly on seven (7) different occasions, asking to be taken off the mailing list. I am flooded with emails from this service. The person, [redacted], who answered me back on all my emails keeps beating around the bush, and tells me my email cannot be found. I've told her several times, "I keep getting the emails." The emails won't stop, even with human intervention. [redacted] from easyroommate, at this point, has given up on the issue. She stopped emailing me, and I'm still receiving about 10 emails per day. This is harassment.Desired Settlement: The outcome I want is to stop getting dozens of emails per day from this bogus company. This is harassment, and it needs to stop. Contacting the company, and specifically [redacted], directly, isn't working, and this is why I needed to get the Revdex.com involved. I informed her that I would involve the Revdex.com, if it didn't stop, and she ignored that email. The unwanted emails continue to keep pouring in.

Business

Response:

Dear [redacted],

As you mentioned in your complaint, at the time you first asked us to unsubscribe you from the service, we were unable to find any account linked to the email address you were writing us from, which is why we were not able to unsubscribe you. However, [redacted] has answered to all the emails you sent her (on the [redacted] and [redacted] of July). She also informed you how to unsubscribe by accessing your account.

On the [redacted] of July, you forwarded her one of the email you were receiving from our service, and we were able to extract information from it that allowed us to identify the registered account, and we have deactivated it on the [redacted] of July. You have received an automatic email informing you this had been done, and haven't received any email from us since then.

The email address you used to register on Easyroommate was not the one initially provided, although really similar: you provided us with the email address starting by[redacted] and the account was created under the email address starting by [redacted] (without the dot between the first and last name).

We are sorry for the inconvenience that was caused by the delay in resolving this issue, but without the correct information, it was difficult to help you. But we have not ignored your emails and as soon as we were able to get the correct information, the appropriate action has been taken in less than 24h.

Business

Response:

Dear [redacted],

We are really sorry to hear that the explanation provided has not made it clear for you about what happened.

Both email addresses (the one with the dot and the one without) are linked to your unique Gmail account, whether you were aware of it or not at the time.

It might have been a typing mistake, and you might have missed the dot you usually put in your email address when you filled in the Email address field during your registration on Easyroommate.

All I can see from our records is that the email address associated to your account with our company is the one without any dot. And yes, you were receiving emails regarding this account on your email address with the dot because both of them are linked to the same unique Gmail account.

We acknowledge that you had to send several emails to our services within 48h, time for our services to get to the bottom of this issue and identify your account to deactivate it and prevent you from receiving further emails.

The reason why the unsubscribe option has not worked is probably because you entered your email address with a dot, which has never been in our records. Should you have entered the one without the dot (that you didn't know was yours by then), the unsubscription would have been effective.

We apologize once again for the time it took to solve the situation, and therefore the emails you kept receiving in the meantime, but our company is certainly not fraudulent and is not lying about its practices.

Kind regards,

Consumer

Response:

Although I have 'no' email address with my name, not containing a dot, I'm accepting this resolution because the company continues to lie, I no longer get emails, and I don't have any more time for their questionable practices. I do not posess an email address [redacted] I only possess an email address: [redacted]

The company needs to be aware that clients, like me, are smart, and lying is inexcusable. Also, if any more emails come to my address, I will issue another full complaint (with all of the information provided in this one), in addition to their future problematic practices. I do not accept that the company wasn't lying. They were, and are.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

1 out of 5 stars. The paid subscription did me no service in finding more arrangements or help me acquire any messages from possible contacts. Easyroomates.com also did not answer my questions when I tried contacting them through technical or customer support.

Review: I set up an account and was having such a good experience I decided to upgrade to become a Premium Member. The next day I tried to log into the site via my iPhone instead of the MacBook I established the account with. I was informed my account was inactive. I emailed the company. I received a reply that they might get back to me in 15 working hours. Given it was coming up on a weekend and my move in date was approaching, I found this unacceptable. After another day of trying to log in and seeing the charge for upgraded service still on my credit card activity; I emailed then my concerns about their service being unacceptable and informed them that if they did not resolve the problem, I would inform the Revdex.com. It is surprising how fast they can process my payment and deactivate my account, yet when I try to reach them for issue resolution, I receive a preprogrammed email stating they would try to get back to me in 15 working hours.

I took a screenshot of the email response. In short, "Yes, we deactivated your account because we thought you might not be who you say you are. My supervisor said we would not be reactivating your account. We will refund the charge to your credit card."Desired Settlement: I would like my account, that is obviously my account and is not a scam, reactivated.

I would also like an explanation of why my account was not going to be reinstated, and why it was deactivated to begin with.

I also desire to know what "supervisor" decided that my account would not be reinstated.

Business

Response:

First, let me start by apologizing for the late answer. The original email address you were provided with belongs to someone who doesn't work for Easyroommate anymore, so it took us time to receive your email. I went through [redacted] complaint and I will try to answer all addressed points. [redacted]' account was created on December [redacted] and he upgraded to a 30 days membership for $24.90. The account was blocked on the same day by our moderation team. That's why he couldn't log in and why he sent us an email. The average frame time to answer an email on Easyroommate is 15 working hours. It can be more, especially during the week-ends, or less. I understand that it might be frustrating especially when one has an emergency but that's what we are committed to. On the [redacted], we answered [redacted]'s emails (he sent a second one on the [redacted]) explaining that his account has been blocked and we won't reinstate it. The money was refunded on the credit card, transaction completed on December [redacted], about 24 hours after he was charged. [redacted] did send us another email on the [redacted], asking why we wouldn't reinstate his account, which we did not answered. Indeed, we are a classifieds website and everyday, we have lot of scammers who try to register on the site. We have a moderation team dedicated to check each advert before and during its publication. We have our own tools for this and obviously we won't share them as this is something very sensitive for our business. Our users' security is really important to us. It can happen that a genuine account is mistaken for a scammer account. In that case we reactivate the account and refund or reinstate any payment that was made. It happens that we still have doubts and prefer to keep the account blocked, as we believe "better be safe than sorry". And as stated in ourLegal information, "We reserve the right to refuse to list any member for any reason, or to edit content, should we feel it is inappropriate for our service." So to answer [redacted] precise questions: - The account is already reactivated since December [redacted], after another check, and several hours before he sent you this complaint. - Unfortunately we won't give any further explanation why the account was blocked at the beginning. Information on his account triggered some security alerts on our side. - We won't tell which supervisor decided not to reinstate the account. The reasons he had -based on our tools- were legitimate. To finish, we'd like to apologize for any inconvenience caused to [redacted]. We never intended to frustrate him or whatever. What we did is what we always do, trying to keep our website as safe as possible. Should [redacted] have any other question, he can get back to us at any time.

Review: I opened an account with EasyRoommate for the express purpose of contacting the person who posted ID number [redacted] for a roommate in Washington DC. The ad was newly posted on Craig's List while my mother was online and she notified me immediately, and together we prepared my response. I have a screen shot of this ad which proves that the only way to contact the person who posted it is through EasyRoommate. Therefore, I signed up on EasyRommate and paid the required fee. To our surprise, once I had done this,, we were unable to find the referenced listing on EasyRoommate. We have been checking everyday, several times a day, and the referenced ad has still not appeared on the EasyRoommate Web site. In light of this, I asked my mother to contact EasyRoommate customer service ("[redacted]") as my own computer was running slow, and ask them to forward my inquiry to the person who posted the ad. She enclosed a screen shot of the ad, the ad posting number and my premium membership number. After several days of emails going back and forth in which EasyRoommate repeatedly stated they would respond within 48 hours and when they finally did, simply requested the same information we had already sent them several times, it appears that the ad is a sham and a ruse to fraudulently get customers to pay for a membership in order to have access to contact information for a room to rent in a house that doesn't exist and a landlord who doesn't exist. Given the impasse, I have asked EasyRoommate to either prove to me: 1) that they have forwarded my message to the poster of the ad; and 2) that the fact that it didn't appear on Easyroommate was a legitimate mistake Or issue me an immediate and full refund of my membership fee: $26.90. With kind regards, [redacted]Desired Settlement: Refund of membership fee in the amount of $26.90

There is no such thing as satisfaction guarantee with this scam company. I tried to use the sight 1 time but HAD to upgrade in order to actually communicate with anyone. I never received a response and then requested a refund within hours. It took me 3 emails for them to actually respond to me and then they tried to say I used it again AFTER asking for a refund and I DID NOT. I haven't even logged back in because the account is shut down but they still won't refund me any part of my payment. They are just another foreign scam company! BUYER BE WARE.
